Edward Sapir's Language: An Introduction to the Study of Speech( 1921) is, though one of the masterpiecesof linguistics, generally considered a handy and easy introduction to linguistics among linguists all overthe world. The reason may be found in the fact that the book is apparently written in an easy style and everyday English, quite unlike other books and papers on linguistics, and complex technical terms are hardly foundon any page of the book. Such terms as pattern and drift are often used in everyday life. Other words such asAblaut and Umlaut are those which any student who begins to study comparative and historical linguisticscannot fail to meet in their first lessons. However that is the very reason we are apt to miss Sapir's thoroughlythought-out view on the method of historical linguistics. The aim of this paper is to clarify Sapir's view expoundedin Language concretely and intelligibly for the first time.サピアのLanguage(1921『言語』)は名著といわれ好意的に評価する人が多い。その理由は,他の言語学の専門書のほとんどが大部であり,難解な理論や無味乾燥なデータが多く,自然科学風の文体を心がけているのに反し,サピアの『言語』は比較的小さい書物であり,一見日常的なやさしい英語で書かれ,文体もやさしく専門用語がほとんどないことがあげられる。多少特殊な用語といえば「pattern(型,パタン)」,「drift(駆流)」であるが日常的な語である。他に「Ablaut(アプラウト)」,「Umlaut(ウムラウト)」,「類推(analogy)」があるが少しでも印欧比較言語学を学んだ人には周知の用語・概念である。しかし,サピアの『言語』は10万年にわたる人類言語を共時的,通時的に俯瞰できることが意図されており,見かけとは裏腹に難解である。サピアが「パタン(pattern)」という語で意図したのは「(音声・形態の)体系構造」であり,フンボルトの「内部言語形式」,ソシュールの「ラング」,チョムスキーの「言語能力」にも通ずる射程を持っているので注意を要する。やさしく見える英語は,わずか2カ月で書かれたといわれていることからも推察できるように,まるで詩神にとりつかれて一気呵成に書き上げられた詩のようである。従って,文章を論理的にするべく推敲した形跡がない。特に,言語史を論じた第7章,第8章,第9章は緊密度が高いので一字一句も加えることも差し引くことも難しい。また,サピアの時代は印欧比較言語学が頂点を極めた時代が続いており,言語学といえば歴史言語学以外にはありえなかった。しかも,19世紀の歴史言語学に大きな影響を与えた『言語史原理』の著者である H. パウルは,サピアが『言語』を執筆中はまだ存命であった(1921没)ので正面きっての批判を避けたのかもしれない。

The house dust mite has been incriminated as a major allergen of house dust in respiratory allergic diseases. Surveys were undertaken to study the mite fauna in house dusts collected from the residence of asthmatic as well as of non-asthmatic children living in and around Tokyo. House dusts were collected by electric sweeper for a week and stored in a deepfreezer until the observation. Mites were isolated from the fine dust caught on a 200 mesh sieve by flotation and centrifugation method with Darling's solution (equal volume of glycerin and saturated sodium chloride solution). Of 24 samples collected in summer, number of mites varied greatly and the average number was 499 in 0.5g of fine dust or 133 per square meter of floor. As to the mite fauna, Pyroglyphidae constituted 85%, Tyroglyphinae 3.1%, Glycyphaginae 1.3%, Cheyletidae 2.8%, Tarsonemidae 0.7%, Mesostigmata 1.3%, and Oribatei 4.4%. Among Pyroglyphid mites, Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus constituted 36% and D. farinae 39% but no significant difference was noted statistically as to the dominancy between the two. Of 9 cases, seasonal change of mite fauna was studied. The number of mites decreased in winter but no statistical difference was found among seasons. Neither the changes in dominant species were noted. Eleven control dust samples were collected from houses without asthmatic patients but no significant difference was noted in number of mites or density per square meter from those observed in the residences of asthmatic children. Mite fauna was also similar to that in the asthmatic houses.

本研究では,一人一台の情報端末を導入した二つの中学校を対象として,キーボード入力スキル,ソフトウェアの基本的な操作スキル,情報活用の実践力に関する調査を行った.学校間,学年間における比較により,一人一台の情報端末の活用は生徒のキーボード入力スキルを向上させることが明らかとなった.また,スキル習得のためのトレーニングを行うことで更に向上させることが可能であることが明らかとなった.これらのスキルには関連性がみられなかったことから,それぞれにトレーニングが必要となる可能性が示唆された.

Many engineers have recently been developing battery chargers that have employed contactless power transmission techniques for consumer products. These have contributed to improving the convenience of charging batteries. We investigated methods of electromagnetic induction for transmission from several different types. The efficiency of power transmission was dependent on the quality factors of two coils and the coupling coefficient between them. Previous reports indicated that copper clad aluminum wire (CCAW) and magnetic-plated wire (MPW) can improve quality factors. We need to select these materials appropriately according to our individual needs in order to achieve highly efficient power transmission systems. Therefore, we examined the performance of three materials for power transmission coils in this research and found a method of selecting materials to construct a highly efficient system of transmission with a broad range of coupling coefficients.

We treated a 51-year-old female with von Recklinghausen's disease with a large neurinoma of the cervical vagus nerve.Her chief complaint was swelling of the right side of the neck. There were numerous cafe au lait spots and neurofibromas all over the body. CT and MRI imaging revealed a tumor that was so large that the common carotid artery was pushed aside towards the midline and the internal jugular vein could not be detected. Based on the diagnosis of a neurinoma or a neurofibroma of the cervical vagus nerve. Surgery was performed under general anesthesia. The tumor was found to originate from the vagus nerve. The tumor was resected together with the vagus nerve. The histopathological report was of a benign neurinoma. No adverse symptoms were observed postoperatively, except for hoarseness of the voice.There have only been 3 cases of neurofibromas, and 1 case of a neurinoma originating from the cervical vagus nerve in Von Recklinghausen's disease reported in Japan. We also discuss the pathological differences between a neurinoma and a neurofibroma.

This paper considers different concepts of equality and inequality in neo-liberalism and welfare states. The equality in neo-liberalism or libertarianism is based on the two principles, that is, the principle of "distribution in proportion to desert," and that of "burden in proportion to benefit." We call them "the market principles" in this paper. On the other hand, the equality in welfare states is based on the different two principles, the principle of "distribution in proportion to needs," and that of "burden in proportion to ability." We call them "the community principle." Karl Marx distinguished the works principle (a kind of the principle of distribution in proportion to desert) and the needs principle in his Critique of the Gotha Programme. He expected that the works principle would prevail in the first stage of a communist society and the needs principle would do in the second and highly developed one. Amarthya Sen pointed that the needs principle had been involved in the social security and other social services in welfare states. This paper argues that the community principles, including the needs principle and the principle of burden in proportion to ability, are more or less prevailing not only in welfare states but also in various communities such as families, local communities, companies, religious organizations, nation states, and international organizations.

本研究では,広島県北広島町大朝地区におけるデマンド型交通(DRT)のサービス供給方式と運営関係者の組織化過程を検討した。国や広島県の地域公共交通政策が変更される中,北広島町は,町村合併に伴う公共交通再編成を進め,DRTを導入した。北広島町大朝地区の場合は,多様なアクターがDRTの運営に関与し,利用特典を独自に設定したり,車両を積極的に利活用したりすることで経営基盤を強化させていた。こうした特徴を持つ大朝地区のDRTの運営関係者の組織化過程を考察すると,町は交通事業者側の経営自由度を高め,その下で大朝地区の交通事業者は,独自の運営方式を可能とする緩やかなネットワークを既往の地域的な諸関係を基にして構築していたことが判明した。そこでは,キーパーソンとなる交通事業者のH氏が,利用者の視点からサービスが向上されるよう,運行を支援する地区内の各事業者を位置付けていた。一方の運行を支援する各事業者も自らの活動のツールとしてDRTを位置付けた。これらの結果,交通経営と各アクターの事業の運営の双方にメリットが生み出されるようなサービス供給体制が構築されていた。

Offering the proposition "Media is the messages, " Murshall McLuhan indicated that the modality of media consumption can define our kinetic sense and thoughts. The unfortunate acceptance of McLuhan's arguments invited the lack of the sociological scrutiny. This paper will rethink the theoretical implication of McLuhan's proposition from the viewpoints of social system theory developed by Niklas Luhmann. His theory clarifies the theoretical difference between face-to-face communication and mediated communication, and the concept of "observation" will give us the alternative idea of "Medialiteracy".

生物の公開標本データの信頼性について、ヒルガオ科マメダオシを材料に検討した。その結果、公開データにおいては情報の正確性(同定の正しさ)は全国の標本の7割程度、情報の網羅性(既存標本のうちで公開されている件数)は近畿地方産標本の3割程度であった。一例のみだが、この結果に基づいて公開標本データの利用に際して留意すべきことへの意見を述べた。ユーザーはデータの信頼性や特性についてよく理解した上で利用することに加えて、ユーザー自身が誤情報修正のフィードバックに積極的に関わることが望まれる。

本研究は,複数の転機を持つ若手から中堅の保育者が,なぜ保育という仕事を続けているのか,そこにどのような価値を見出していることが継続と関わっているのかに焦点を当て,社会的・時間的文脈の中でどのように成長してきたのかを,保育者自身の主観的な語りから明らかにすることを目的とした。4名の保育者にライフライン・インタビュー・メソッドを用いたインタビューを実施し,複線径路・等至性モデル(TEM)による分析を行った。結果,協力者の保育者という生き方を続ける理由には個別性があるが,同時に保育者の継続を支えている共通の契機として,「保育に対する正の感情」「保育者周囲の社会的状況」の2点が見出された。また,協力者には保育者を継続する個別的な理由から繋がったそれぞれ異なるキャリア形成が見出され,働く者としての保育者自身の主観次元に基づいた保育者の成長研究の必要性が示唆された。

本研究の目的は,インタビューによって得られたナラティヴを分析することを通して,高等学校の新任教員が,日々何に悩み,何によって支えられているのかを明らかにすることにある。 新任教員が入職してからどのような経験を踏まえてどのような思いや気づきがあったのか時系列で知るため,2名の新任教員に複数回インタビューを実施した。質問項目は,それぞれのインタビュー時期において,つらいことや苦しいこと,あるいは困難であると感じた出来事は何か,また喜びややりがいは何かである。 新任教員は,教員になって初めて,生徒との関係構築よりも先輩との関係構築が一番困難なことであることに気づき,同僚との関係構築を一番の気がかりとしていた。そして,関係性を築くことができなければ,教職遂行がスムーズにいかないとも考えていた。 また,新任教員から先輩への関係構築の働きかけをしても,先輩からの理不尽な言葉や行動で,教員という職業に対してまで,否定的な気持ちにもなっている。すなわち,同僚(先輩)が,新任教員が教職を遂行する上でのプラスの作用になってはいないということであり,新任教員にとっては同僚との関係構築が,避けて通ることのできない大きな課題となっている。 しかし,「同僚」は,一方で,新任教員を支える存在になることもこの研究によって明らかとなった。多くの場面で新任教員を気遣い,良き気付きを与えている存在として「同僚」や「管理職」がいた。そのような「同僚」や「管理職」の存在が、新任教員の教職遂行を支えていた。 同僚の支援が得られにくい高等学校においても,「同僚」や「管理職」が,新任教員の支えとなっていることは,「新任教員への支援」を考えるときの良き示唆となる。

To clarify the acute-phase response in brain, we investigated the induction of metallothionein (MT) genes by administering an endotoxin (lipopolysaccharide) in rat intraperitoneum. We performed in situ hybridization on the serial brain sections to identify the cells expressing the MT genes in the acute-phase. After endotoxin administration, transcripts of MT genes were detected in the arachnoideal, ependymal cells and the Bergmann glia of the cerebellum, while no significant induction of the MT genes by zinc ion was observed in the brain. These results suggest that the acute-phase response occurs specifically in at least these three non-neuronal cells.

本研究では、認知行動療法を活用した認知症の家族介護者向けの2つのプログラム(①集団CBT、②訪問看護師による個人CBT)を開発し有効性を検討した。【集団CBT】集団CBTプログラム(月1回90分、計5回)を実施したところ、75歳以下の介護者では、介護負担感、介護に対する否定的な感情において主効果が認められた(p<0.05)。【訪問看護師によるCBT】 訪問看護時に訪問看護師が実施できる個人CBTプログラム(1回30分、計11回)を開発した。また、介入の質を担保するために訪問看護師に対するCBTの教育体制(集団研修およびスーパービジョン)を整備した。現在、症例登録を継続中である。
