心的イメージ研究が「復活」を果たした1960年代後半以降、認知心理学においては心的イメージや夢、空想、白昼夢などといった「心の中」で生じる現象に関する研究が数多く行われるとともに、その研究の持つ重要性も広く認識されるに至っている。これらの心的現象は感覚・知覚と異なって外部からの刺激とは独立に生じるものであることから、Antrobus(1968)やSinger(1988)はそれらを総称して"刺激独立型思考(stimulus-independent thought)"という名称を与えている。そして刺激独立型思考の現象的特徴(特に心的イメージの現象的特徴)を中心とする多くの問題が明らかにされてきているが、一方でその産出過程については未だ解明されていない点が多い。今回本研究で取り上げる刺激独立型思考の産出過程と注意資源の配分の関係に関する問題も、それら未解明の問題の1つである。 一般に我々は、周囲の状況が目まぐるしく変化する場合よりも、変化の少ない単調な状況にいる場合のほうが空想をしたり、白昼夢を見たりする、すなわち刺激独立型思考を産出することが多い(Antrobus, Snger, & Greenberg, 1966)。また、我々が刺激独立型思考を産出しているとき、それにあまりに没頭していると周りの状況の変化に気づかないことがある。これらの事実は、刺激独立型思考は外部に注意を向ける必要が少ない場合に、そして心の内部に注意を向けている場合に産出されるということを示しているように思われる。これに関連する知見として、例えばRichardson(1994)は、刺激独立型思考の1つである心的イメージの産出には心の内部に注意を向けることが必要であると述べているし、またTellegen & Atkinson(1974)もイメージや空想などに没頭する人ほどそれらにより多くの注意を向ける傾向が強いとしている。 これらのことから、刺激独立型思考の産出過程と注意との間には密接な関係があると推測することができる。しかしながら、残念なことにこの推測は大きな弱点を抱えている。なぜなら、上に挙げた例やRichardsonらの主張はあくまで経験的な事実に基づくものに過ぎず、実験による十分な検証を受けたものではないからである。刺激独立型思考の産出にとって、心の内部に注意を向けることが本当に必要な条件なのか。反対に、外部に注意を向けているときには刺激独立型思考の産出は行われないのか。刺激独立型思考と注意との関係を明らかにするためにはより詳細な実験的検討が加えられなければならない。

Many of the previous studies on daydreams investigated the contents of daydreams, and discussed their functions. Those studies examined what desires appeared in daydreams or how the personalities were related with the contents of daydreams. However, they had not thoroughly researched the reasons why people with such desires or personalities experienced their own themes through the means of daydreams. To deal with this problem, it was necessary to pay attention to the styles of daydreams and not only the contents. In this study, the degrees of repetition and fantasy of daydreams were investigated. It was considered that the degrees ranged extensively and that the functions of daydreams vary depending on these degrees. This study mainly focused on repetitious and fantasized daydreams. It was found that only certain scenes appeared in the repetitious daydreams, and that some fantasized daydreams were oriented toward danger and difficulty while others were oriented toward harmony and stability. These results suggest that the therapeutic meaning of daydreams lies in the process where people repeatedly deal with their own themes in a safe world and return to a harmonized world.

In this paper we describe the establishment of an efficient visual method for screening heparanase inhibitors, and we present the results of screening 10, 000 microbial culture broths. Heparanase-overexpressing stable clones of the human hepatocellular carcinoma HepG2 cells were established and used as an enzyme source. Digestion of heparan sulfate (HS) was detected using novel HS-containing tablets or SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. This method was able to find suramin, a known heparanase inhibitor, from a library of typical enzyme inhibitors. By screening 10, 000 culture broths of microorganisms (actinomycetes, fungi, and bacteria) an actinomycete strain, RK99-A234, was found to have heparanase inhibitory activity. RK-682 was identified in the fermentation broth as a heparanase inhibitor, IC50=17μM.

The recent increase in the generation and use of coal fly ash by electric power stations and various industries has contributed to Japan developing technology to facilitate the utilization of fly ash as ground material, including the use of fly ash for fills and embankments, pavement and subbase courses, subgrade stabilizations, landfill cover, soil improvement, land reclamation, slurried flowable ash and water pollution control. This paper describes the state of the art related to coal fly ash utilization as geo-material in Japan. In particular, this paper describes the material properties and technology associated with each technique. As coal fly ash contains a very small amount of heavy metal which should be considered for geo-environmental safety, this paper also discusses quality and inspection techniques for coal fly ash materials.

Condensation of 5-amino, 6-amino, 7-amino and 8-amino-2, 2-dimethyl-2H-chromenes with either 6-bromo-veratraldehyde or 6-chloropiperonal afforded the corresponding Schiff bases, which were subsequently reduced to the corresponding benzylchromenylamines 30-33 and 36-39. Lithium diisopropylamide-mediated cyclization of those amines, followed by spontaneous air oxidation, afforded pyranophenanthridines 3-14. The cytotoxicity of compounds 3-14 was evaluated against L1210 and HT29 cell lines. 9, 9-Dimethyl-9H-pyrano[3, 2-b]phenanthridines appear to be the most promising compounds of the series, since both the dimethoxy derivative 11 and the methylenedioxy derivative 12 exhibit significant cytotoxic activity. Compound 12 was the most active and induced a massive accumulation of cells in G2+M phases, suggesting that the cytotoxicity is due to a perturbation of the integrity or function of DNA.

本研究では、明治から昭和初期 (第二次大戦以前) に埼玉県内に架設された橋梁を対象に調査を行った。県管理道路台帳、本邦道路橋輯覧や橋梁史年表 (藤井郁夫編) などから212橋のデータを収集した。この半数以上は一応現存している。また、県内戦前橋梁の現状を探るため、東北・高崎線沿線地域と荒川上流の秩父地方の現地調査を行った。これらの調査結果をもとに対象期間に架設された橋梁の特徴を述べ、考察するものである。
