Background: The free-living protozoan Acanthamoeba is an opportunistic pathogen that is ubiquitous in our environment. However, its role in affecting indoor air quality and ill-health of indoor occupants is relatively unknown. The present study investigated the presence of Acanthamoeba from the ventilation system and its correlation with other indoor air quality parameters, used in the industry code of practice and its potential as an indicator for indoor air quality.Methods: Indoor air quality assessments were carried out in nine commercial buildings with approval from the building management, and the parameters assessed were as recommended by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health. The presence of Acanthamoeba was determined through dust swabs from the ventilation system and indoor furniture. Logistic regression was performed to study the correlation between assessed parameters and occupants\' complaints.Results: A total of 107 sampling points were assessed and 40.2% of the supplying air diffuser and blowing fan and 15% of the furniture were positive for cysts. There was a significant correlation between Acanthamoeba detected from the ventilation system with ambient total fungus count (r = 0.327; P = 0.01) and respirable particulates (r = 0.276; P = 0.01). Occupants\' sick building syndrome experience also correlated with the presence of Acanthamoeba in the ventilation system (r = 0.361; P = 0.01) and those detected on the furniture (r = 0.290; P = 0.01). Logistic regression showed that there was a five-fold probability of sick building syndrome among occupants when Acanthamoeba was detected in the ventilation system.

AZ91D magnesium alloy reinforced with aluminum borate whisker (Al<SUB>18</SUB>B<SUB>4</SUB>O<SUB>33w</SUB>, denoted by ABO<SUB>w</SUB>) was fabricated by squeeze-casting. The heat treatment (T4) was carried out at 693 K in argon atmosphere for 48 and 96 hours, respectively, following water-quenched. The behaviors of interfacial reaction were studied in processes of fabrication and following heat treatment. Microstructures of interfacial reaction layers were investigated with transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Interfacial reaction layer in thickness of 5&ndash;10 nm was found in as-casted composite, and it was identified that the interfacial reaction layer was consisted of MgO. When the composite was heat-treated at 693 K for 48 hours, the surfaces of whiskers were covered with interfacial reaction layer completely and the thickness of interfacial reaction layer increased to about 20 nm. With increasing the time of heat treatment from 48 hours to 96 hours, the thickness of interfacial reaction layer on the surfaces of whiskers did not change obviously. The interfacial reaction layer was consisted of tiny MgO particles and a small quantity of MgB<SUB>2</SUB> particles. Although MgO particles played a good barrier to keep out of contacting between magnesium and whisker, the boundaries between MgO particles acted as a shortcut of magnesium atoms migration. Therefore magnesium could keep on reacting to whisker. The interfacial reaction could invade into the inner of whisker about 20 nm depth after the composite was heat-treated at 673 K for 96 hours. The surfaces of whiskers became wave-like because of interfacial reaction. An orientation relationship was found between MgO reaction layer and ABO<SUB>w</SUB>: (11\\bar1)<SUB>MgO</SUB>||(320)<SUB>ABOw</SUB> and [011]<SUB>MgO</SUB>||[001]<SUB>ABOw</SUB>. The surfaces of MgO particles were consisted of close-packed (111)<SUB>MgO</SUB> plane.

In conventional muography observations using two detectors for muon tracking, the accidental coincidence of vertical electromagnetic showers generates identical trajectories to the muon tracks. Although muography has favorable properties, which allow direct density measurements inside a volcano, the measured density is lower than the actual value due to these fortuitous trajectories. We performed muography of Usu volcano, and confirmed that, in comparison with a use of two detectors, background noise levels were reduced by more than one order of magnitude using seven detectors for selecting linear trajectories. The resultant muographic image showed a high-density region underneath the central region of Usu volcano. This picture is consistent with the magma intrusion model proposed in previous studies. To clarify the three-dimensional location and actual size of the detected high-density body, multidirectional muographic measurements are necessary.

A Pomeranian dog, 1-year- and 8-month-old neutered female, was presented with persistent respiratory distress and recurrent generalized demodicosis. Physical examination revealed cyanosis, rough respiratory sounds, multifocal alopecia and dermal erosions on the dorsal side of the forelimbs, perineal area and skin around the eyes. A severe diffuse interstitial lung pattern was observed on thoracic radiographs. The blood examination revealed neutrophilia and hypoglobulinemia. Serum immunoglobulin concentrations of IgG and IgA were low. Histopathological examination revealed severe diffuse interstitial pneumonia with Pneumocystis carinii infection. Severe lymphoid depletion was observed in the spleen and other organs with lymphoid follicles consisted mainly of CD3-positive T cells and few cells of B-cell lineage. B-cell hypoplasia with subsequent antibody deficiency was suspected.

1.研究の進行・学級経営をめぐる問題の現象を把握するための調査実施。対象:韓国のソウル所在の小学校5年生(17学校)・日本の学校と学級経営に関する幅広い理解を求め、学級経営研究会、関連学会へ参加し、関連資料を収集すると共に、関連研究者との面談の実施。・調査結果の整理と分析、韓日の学級運営の現象に対する比較分析。・報告書の作成2.研究成果韓国で実施した調査結果を整理し、日本の調査結果と比較・分析した結果、次のようなことが分かった。まず、韓国の小学生の場合、日本に比べて「最近イライラすることが多い」(韓国63.1%、日本54.3%)、「疲れていると思う」子どもが多い(韓国75.6%、日本65.1%)ことが分かった。また、学級運営の現状を見ると、韓国の学級運営がより深刻な状態になっていることが調査結果、明らかになった。例えば、「授業中に立ち歩く人がいる」に対して韓国の小学生は41.4%(「とてもそう思う」「少しそう思う」を含む。以下同一)と答えているが、日本では27.2%である。「授業が始まっても教室に入らない人がいる」「授業中におしゃべりをしたり手紙を回す人がいる」に対しても韓国は各々33.2%、60.9%、日本は22.4%、54.1%となっており、韓国の学級運営がより困難な状態になっていることがわかる。「クラスにいじわるな人がいる」では韓国68.5%(とても多い33.3%、やや多い35.2%)で日本の38.4%(とても多い10.3%、やや多い28.1%)よりはるかに上回っており、至急な対策が求められている。しかし、授業などに対する意識面では韓同間に差が多く見えなかった。これは、韓同ともに子どもたちは授業中におしゃべりすることがよくないことや、授業時間を守ることの大事さ、授業中に授業と関係ないことをすることの悪さに対してもきちんと認識していることを意味している。学校生活の面では「学校が楽しい」「授業が楽しい」などの項目では有意味の差は見えなかったが、「みんなが同じことをしていれば安心です」(韓国40%、日本69.6%)、「クラスの友達からどう思われるか気になります」(韓国55.6%、日本72.1%)、では韓日間の差が大きく見られ、注目を引く。友人関係・学級の様子の面では「私のクラスは仲がいいです」(韓国26.2%、日本76.6%)で大きな差が現れ、先の「クラスにいじわる

野生および飼育下の個体群から集められた資料にもとづいて,スラウェシマカクの社会行動のレパートリーのエソグラムを作成した。コミュニケーションのパターン,動きのパターン,性行動のパターン,幼児行動と遊び,三者間の社会交渉など社会的文脈で観察されている行動を記述した。これらの行動パターンのほとんどはスラウェシマカクの全種に見られた。ある種の行動パターンの形態や機能はほかのマカク種で報告されているものと著しく異なっていたが,その一方,別の行動パターンに見られた類似性は,マカク属内の系統的な類縁関係を反映している可能性があった。

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of air-blowing duration on the bonding performance of all-in-one systems using the same pressure (0.25 MPa). Three all-in-one systems were: EB (Easy Bond, 3M ESPE, USA), BB (BeautiBond, Shofu Inc., Japan) and GBp (G-Bond plus, GC Corporation, Japan). After adhesive application, the 3 systems were air-blown thereafter using 7 different durations (5 s, 10 s, 15 s, 20 s, 25 s, 30 s and 35 s). Bond strengths to dentin were determined using µTBS test after 24 h water storage. In addition, evaluation of both the resin-dentin interface and the fractured surface on the dentin side were performed by SEM. The maximum µTBS for each system, BB (40.4±14.8 MPa), EB (79.8±16.5 MPa), and GBp (47.3±17.6 MPa), were recorded with 15 s, 15 s and 25 s air-blowing duration respectively. Under the same air-pressure, the air-blowing duration could affect evaporation and the thickness of the adhesive layer, which contributed to the different bond strengths.

We present a quenched lattice QCD calculation of the alpha and beta parameters of the proton decay matrix element. The simulation is carried out using the Wilson quark action at three values of the lattice spacing in the range a[approximate]0.1-0.064 fm to study the scaling violation effect. We find only mild scaling violation when the lattice scale is determined by the nucleon mass. We obtain in the continuum limit,
