A search for electroweak production of supersymmetric particles in scenarios with compressed mass spectra in final states with two low-momentum leptons and missing transverse momentum is presented. This search uses proton-proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider in 2015-2016, corresponding to 36.1 tb(-1) of integrated luminosity at root s = 13 TeV. Events with same flavor pairs of electrons or muons with opposite electric charge are selected. The data are found to be consistent with the Standard Model prediction. Results are interpreted using simplified models of R-parity conserving supersymmetry in which there is a small mass difference between the masses of the produced supersymmetric particles and the lightest neutralino. Exclusion limits at 95% confidence level are set on next-to-lightest neutralino masses of up to 145 GeV for Higgsino production and 175 GeV for wino production, and slepton masses of up to 190 GeV for pair production of sleptons. In the compressed mass regime, the exclusion limits extend down to mass splittings of 2.5 GeV for Higgsino production, 2 GeV for wino production, and 1 GeV for slepton production. The results are also interpreted in the context of a radiatively-driven natural supersymmetry model with nonuniversal Higgs boson masses.

This paper presents a search for direct electroweak gaugino or gluino pair production with a chargino nearly mass-degenerate with a stable neutralino. It is based on an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb−1 of pp collisions at s√=13 TeV collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. The final state of interest is a disappearing track accompanied by at least one jet with high transverse momentum from initial-state radiation or by four jets from the gluino decay chain. The use of short track segments reconstructed from the innermost tracking layers significantly improves the sensitivity to short chargino lifetimes. The results are found to be consistent with Standard Model predictions. Exclusion limits are set at 95% confidence level on the mass of charginos and gluinos for different chargino lifetimes. For a pure wino with a lifetime of about 0.2 ns, chargino masses up to 460 GeV are excluded. For the strong production channel, gluino masses up to 1.65 TeV are excluded assuming a chargino mass of 460 GeV and lifetime of 0.2 ns.

Results from a search for supersymmetry in events with four or more charged leptons (electrons, muons and taus) are presented. The analysis uses a data sample corresponding to 36.1 fb(-1) of proton-proton collisions delivered by the Large Hadron Collider at root s = 13 TeV and recorded by the ATLAS detector. Four-lepton signal regions with up to two hadronically decaying taus are designed to target a range of supersymmetric scenarios that can be either enriched in or depleted of events involving the production and decay of a Z boson. Data yields are consistent with Standard Model expectations and results are used to set upper limits on the event yields from processes beyond the Standard Model. Exclusion limits are set at the 95% confidence level in simplified models of general gauge mediated supersymmetry, where Higgsino masses are excluded up to 295 GeV. In R-parity-violating simplified models with decays of the lightest supersymmetric particle to charged leptons, lower limits of 1.46, 1.06, and 2.25 TeV are placed on wino, slepton and gluino masses, respectively.

As an alternative to live tourism, the pandemic crisis has given rise to virtual tourism. Virtual tourism content can vary from viewing scenery in still images (photo), moving images (video), or in 3D, to experiencing virtual reality travel. This study investigated Japanese and foreign tourist perceptions of Japanese photo and video sceneries. A questionnaire focused on five different scenery categories (traditional, floral, sea views, ocean waves, and fauna) was conducted on 112 subjects (87 Japanese and 25 foreigners). The questionnaire asked participants to view the photo and video sceneries and give their impressions using 10 paired adjectives and a 7-point semantic differential scale. It was found that the Japanese participants gave a greater number of positive responses for the video sceneries than for the photo sceneries in all categories, and except for fauna, the foreign participants gave a greater number of positive responses to the photo sceneries in all categories. This study highlighted the perceptual differences between Japanese and non-Japanese tourists (Asian tourists in particular) toward Japanese photo and video sceneries. These study results could be used as a reference to create targeted virtual tourism content.

Amperometric measurement of superoxide dismutase (SOD) was carried out at cytochrome <i>c</i>-immobilized monolayers and ascorbate oxidase (AOD)/xanthine oxidase (XOD)/cytochrome <i>c</i>- and (AOD, XOD)/cytochrome <i>c</i>-multilayers. Cytochrome <i>c</i> was covalently immobilized on mercaptopropionic acid-containing self-assembled monolayers on gold. A biopolymer membrane of poly-L-lysine confining XOD and AOD was cast on the monolayer of cytochrome <i>c</i>. While both the cytochrome <i>c</i>-immobilized monolayer and multilayer electrodes show anodic current responses to the generation of superoxide radical, the sensitivity of the multilayer system for the detection of superoxide radical was high relative to that of the monolayer system. In the case of the cytochrome <i>c</i>-multilayer electrodes, the generation of superoxide radical near the sensing element, cytochrome <i>c</i>, resulted in high sensitivity for the detection of superoxide. The use of a XOD and AOD-incorporated poly-L-lysine membrane enabled the detection of the generation of superoxide radical in the presence of L-ascorbic acid. Though L-ascorbic acid could scavenge superoxide radical, the biopolymer membrane confined with AOD will oxidize any L-ascorbic acid that permeated into the membrane. By using the multilayer electrodes, one could measure the activity of SOD in the presence of L-ascorbic acid.

Relationship between space image and tourists' path selectionpatterns plays a very important role in landscape planning anddesign in scenic areas. Based on research of West Lake scenicarea in Hang Zhou, this article studies the small scale spacescenic images and big scale spatial structure images throughquestionnaire surveys, image recognition, image sketch, factoranalysis, dynamic observation and other methods. The resultsindicate that there are four main types of space activities amongthe West Lake tourists, namely (1) the general activity type inthe Bai Causeway and Su Causeway, (2) the general activitytype in the Sunset Glow at Leifeng Pagoda, (3) the surroundingactivity type in the Evening Bell at Nanping Hill, and (4) thesurrounding activity type in the Music Fountain Square; and theproportion score has it in order from high to low. The scoreresults of tourists' identifying picture and frequency of the fiveelements of space image in image maps are consistent with fourmain types of space activities observed by dynamic lines.Therefore, tourists' perception results of space image candirectly affect the route choice behavior. And the more imageelements can be perceived, the more reasonable path choicescan be made. Finally, the research puts forward somesuggestions tentatively on the planning and design of the WestLake area.

Podoplanin is expressed in various human tumors where it promotes tumor progression, epithelial-mesenchymal transition, and distant metastasis. Podoplanin is also expressed in cancer-associated fibroblasts and induces tumor malignancy. The objective of this study was to evaluate podoplanin expression in various types of feline tumor tissues. Immunohistochemical analysis revealed that podoplanin was expressed in cells of 13/15 (87%) squamous cell carcinomas and 5/19 (26%) fibrosarcomas. Moreover, cancer-associated fibroblasts expressed podoplanin in most tumor types, including 18/21 (86%) mammary adenocarcinoma tissues. Our findings demonstrate that various types of feline tumor tissues expressed podoplanin, indicating the importance of the comparative aspects of podoplanin expression, which may be used as a novel research model for podoplanin biology.

Intestinal lymphangiectasia (IL) is a common complication in dogs. Since nitric oxide (NO) is known to relax the lymphatic duct, we evaluated inducible NO synthase (iNOS) expression using immunohistochemistry in 13 dogs with lymphoplasmacytic enteritis (LPE) with or without IL. The duodenal iNOS expressing cells were significantly increased in dogs with IL-negative or IL-positive LPE dogs (P=0.025, P=0.007) compared with control dogs. However, there was no significant difference in iNOS expression between IL-positive and IL-negative tissues. Based on these results, there is no clear evidence for the NO overproduction in the pathogenesis of IL in dogs with LPE. Factors other than NO could, thus, contribute to IL in dogs with LPE.

The Madagascan freshwater crab genus, Madagapotamon BOTT, 1965,of the family Potamonautidae, is redefined and restricted to only one species, M. humberti BOTT, 1965. A new genus, Skelosophusa, is established for Madagapotamon gollhardi BOTT, 1965,and two new species, Skelosophusa eumeces and S. prolixa, are described. The genus is characterized by the shape of the male abdomen, form of the anterolateral margin and shape of the carapace.

Freshwater crabs of the family Potamidae (sensu NG, 1988) from the Philippines are studied on the basis of collections in the National Science Museum, Tokyo, and the National Museum of the Philippines. Three new genera, Ovitamon, Insulamon and Mindoron, are established, and five new species (O. arcanum, O. tomaculum, Insulamon unicorn, Mindoron pala, Isolapotamon spatha) are described. A key to the Philippine potamid genera is given.

本計画の2年目で最終年度に当る平成2年度は13世紀から15世紀までの学者の自己理解と知識観の変遷との関係が研究課題となった。この研究テ-マを計画通りに時代区分に従って3つの分野に分けて研究が進められた。1.13世紀の知識観は、大学とくに神学部と哲学部において形成されたものなので、パリ大学とオックスフォ-ド大学における学問論が主題となり、2.14・15世紀に関して、フランス・ドイツ・イギリスにおける「古き道」と「新しき道」という2通りの学問理解が研究され、3.14世紀後半〜15世紀は、イタリアの人文主義にみられる学問観が研究課題となった。1.に関して、13世紀大学において展開された知識観の内、3つの基本形態が区別できるようになった。(1)12世紀サン=ヴィクトル派の学問観を継承・発展させた旧フランシスコ会学派とくにボナヴェントゥラに代表される神学的学問観では、諸学問を神学の下で統一しようとする伝統的知識観、(2)ボエティウスを通して媒介されたアリストテレスの哲学的学問論を受け継いだドミニコ会とくにトマス・アクィナスによって代表される認識論的知識観、(3)オックスフォ-ドにおける、アラブ哲学とアウグスティヌス主義の光論を基盤とし、中期フランシスコ会学派とくにロジャ-・ベ-コンによって代表される数学的・実用主義的な知識観。2.に関して、14・15世紀ヨ-ロッパ北方において、(1)いわゆる「古き道」のアルベルトゥス学派、トマス学派、スコトゥス学派における体系的で思弁的な学問観、(2)「新しき道」を自称した形式論理的・唯名論的・経験論的な学問観、(3)とくにフランスにおいて登場した自然学・経済学・歴史学などの新学問によって特徴づけられた知識観。3.に関して、14・15世紀イタリアにおける学問を生活・文芸・人間形成と結びつけて考察する初期ルネサンスの知識観を研究し、その社会的背景と学者の精神性との連関性を明確にとらえることができた。

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of short-term KAATSU-resistance training on skeletal muscle size and sprint/jump performance in college athletes. Fifteen male track and field college athletes were randomly divided into two groups: KAATSU (resistive exercise combined with blood flow restriction, n=9) and control (n=6) groups. The KAATSU group trained twice daily with squat and leg curl exercises (20% of 1-RM, 3 sets of 15 repetitions) for 8 consecutive days while both KAATSU and control groups participated in the regular sprint/jump training sessions. Maximal strength, muscle-bone CSA, mid-thigh muscle thickness (MTH), and sprint/jump performance were measured before and after the 8 days of training. The muscle-bone CSA increased 4.5% (p<0.01) in the KAATSU group but decreased 1% (p>0.05) in the control group. Quadriceps and hamstrings MTH increased (p<0.01) by 5.9% and 4.5%, respectively, in the KAATSU group but did not change in the control group. Leg press strength increased (9.6%, p<0.01) in the KAATSU group but not (4.8%, p>0.05) in the control group. Overall 30-m dash times improved (p<0.05) in the KAATSU-training group, with significant improvements (p<0.01) occurring during the initial acceleration phase (0-10m) but not in the other phases (10-20m and 20-30m). None of the jumping performances improved (p>0.05) for either the KAATSU or control groups. These data indicated that eight days of KAATSU-training improved sprint but not jump performance in collegiate male track and field athletes.

The number of gene therapies in development continues to increase, as they represent a novel method to treat, and potentially cure, many diseases. Gene therapies can be conducted with an in vivo or ex vivo approach, to cause gene augmentation, gene suppression, or genomic editing. Adeno-associated viruses are commonly used to deliver gene therapies, but their use is associated with several manufacturing, nonclinical and clinical challenges. As these challenges emerge, regulatory agency expectations continue to evolve. Following administration of rAAV-based gene therapies, nonclinical toxicities may occur, which includes immunogenicity, hepatotoxicity, neurotoxicity, and the potential risks for insertional mutagenesis and subsequent tumorgenicity. The mechanism for these findings and translation into the clinical setting are unclear at this time but have influenced the nonclinical studies that regulatory agencies are increasingly requesting to support clinical trials and marketing authorizations. These evolving regulatory expectations and toxicities, as well as future nonclinical considerations, are discussed herein.
