The research focused on the entrance design of apartment houses where troubles between pet-keepers and non-pet-keepers occur one after another. The researchers analyzed the architectural and mental factors which worsen their relationships aiming to establish a system for the peaceful cohabitation of dwellers of both types, and explore the would-be plan of sharing a space which would enhance pet communication. The other purpose of this research is to get the basic knowledge of the cohabiting environment for elderly pet-keepers. From the results, the following proposals can be made. 1. As a system, the management association of the apartment house makes it compulsory for the pet-keepers to register their pets and join the 'Keepers' Society' which makes rules for keeping pets, strives to keep good manners concerning pet-keeping, acts to cultivate the dwellers' community for the keepers, and tries to mediate with the non-keepers for their understanding and cooperation. 2. For shared space to enhance pet communication and to avoid troubles, the following ideas would be beneficial. a. To avoid troubles, the apartments with 'divided entrances' where the keeper and non-keeper use their own entrance is desirable. b. Another idea is that 'shared entrances' have some merit in that they give chances to the dwellers to communicate. c. The most desirable model is to build outside and to one side of the 'divided entrance' for pet-keepers a space with seating and equipment for pets so that non-keepers who love animals can mingle with keepers if they wish while non-keepers who dislike animals can avoid contact. 3. To make a supporting system for the elderly pet-keepers, the 'shared entrance' is desirable. One could expect the elderly keepers to become friends with other keepers when they meet at the entrance. These meetings may motivate them to participate more in the 'Keepers' Society'. With this system, it is more likely that the offer of pet-sitting or pet-adoption will be extended to the elderly when needed.

Peroxynitrite, which is formed from the reaction of superoxide radical and nitric oxide, can cause specific structural modifications in proteins such as the addition of a nitro group onto aromatic residues. These modifications can cause perturbations in the properties of the proteins, such as conformation, catalytic activity, susceptibility to proteolysis, and immunogenicity, resulting in several human diseases. Finding a specific peroxynitrite scavenger is, therefore, of considerable importance. Accordingly, we assessed the scavenging ability of several biomolecules purchased from commercial sources on nitration of a protein by peroxynitrite at physiologic CO2 condition in vitro. In sixteen molecules tested, reduced redox-cofactors, and polyphenol-compounds were effective scavengers against peroxynitrite-mediated protein nitration in vitro and one of these, epigallocatechine was the most effective. It was also noticed that tryptophan and serotonin creatinine sulfate possessed relatively high scavenging abilities against peroxynitrite-mediated protein nitration in vitro.

Non-regular workers have increased rapidly in the Japanese labor market over the past 15 years. The percentage of non-regular employment rose to 35.2% in 2011. Large wage inequality between regular and non-regular workers, and the low wages of non-regular workers have caused serious problems. Under these circumstances, for the past few years, the Worker Dispatching Act and the Labor Contract Act were amended in order to correct the differences in treatment of regular and non-regular workers, in order to bring about equal treatment. The revision of the Part-time Work Act is expected in 2013. These amended laws adopt legal principles that prohibit unequal working conditions for non-regular workers without objective reasons for those differences. However, these laws introduce personnel changes as "objective grounds." Personnel changes, therefore, will be used to justify treating regular workers and non-regular workers differently. In this article, I propose a wage system based on equal pay for work of equal value between regular and non-regular workers as the most reasonable method of eliminating wage inequality.

The authors examined the association of the expression of taste receptors and taste blindness. Subjects were 21 female university students aged 19-21. They were tested for whether they could taste phenylthiocarbamide(PTC). Four students, or 19% of the subjects, turned out to have taste blindness where PTC is concerned. The cells in their foliate papillae were scraped between meals and were measured by RT-PCR(SCREP method). The patterns of expressions hTAS2Rs and T1R3 which are correlated with taste blindness were examined. On average, the 4 students expressed 3.25 varieties of taste receptors. Specifically, 3 students expressed hTAS2R3 which is an orphan receptor. But they did not express hTAS2R38 which is a PTC receptor. Drawing on these facts the authors suggest that hTAS2R3 might be related to bitter substances which hTAS2R38 is also related to, and that specifically hTAS2R3 might play an important role for PTC non-tasters in recognizing toxic substances which are bitter.

The present study investigates the effect of ambiguous rejection(e.g., people are ignored by others)and obvious rejection(e.g., people are negatively evaluated by others)on predictions of future rejection. One hundred and thirty-seven male and female undergraduates were asked to imagine situations in which they were either accepted, rejected implicitly, or rejected explicitly, and to complete a questionnaire. The results suggest that social rejection lowered participants' state self-esteem and boosted the perceived likelihood of future rejection by the rejecter. However, social rejection did not boost the perceived likelihood of future rejection by people they didn't already know. Although there was no difference between ambiguous rejection and obvious rejection generally, males were less likely than females to lower their state self-esteem in cases of obvious rejection. The results are discussed from the perspective of sociometer theory.

Onigiri is one of the traditional, most popular Japanese rice ball snacks.The author conducted a questionnaire research on onigiri targeting high school and university students nationwide in 2003.The total number of schools and universities that cooperated was13, the total answers returned were 1, 386, and the recovery rate was94.9%. The results are, 1.They called rice balls onigiri, omusubi and nigirimeshi. 2.The familiar forms of rice balls they ate were triangle, circled, and oval. 3.The top three of the fillings they thought common were umeboshi, salmon and konbu. 4.The most favored wrapping material was nori. 5.The top three of their favorite varieties were with salmon, umeboshi, and tuna with mayonnaise sauce.

Social media, such as Twitter and Instagram, are an increasingly common part of modern life. Especially, Instagram is getting more and more popular as a fashion medium and a fashion learning platform because of its picture processing and sharing functions. This article discusses both the inner and outer effects of social media on the process of learning fashion and on information distribution. The author also conducted an internet survey and analyzes 455 responses. The analysis revealed that 1)Twitter and Instagram are extensions of existing network media such as weblogs, and 2)they possess great potentials in distributing pop culture independent from mass media and high culture.

The rate of young people leaving their jobs has increased in recent years. One reason given for this is their failure to develop interpersonal relationships in the workplace. We think educators must cultivate young people's communication skills and the ability to work in teams. This paper examines modern youths' interpersonal motivations and conforming behaviors. We conducted questionnaire research with 148 university students to obtain basic psychological data that we hope will enable us to support them in constructing smooth interpersonal relations. The analyses showed that interpersonal motivations had an influence on conforming behavior. One of the interpersonal relationship styles, conforming to others overtly, has led to difficulties in and dilution of reliable relationships. These characteristics may negatively affect interpersonal relationships in the workplace. Understanding the importance of interpersonal relationships and achieving self-understanding might help young people to develop healthier interpersonal relationships. In addition, we hope that these results will be helpful to those working to support young people in choosing and establishing careers.
