Computer-dating, the meeting with others through the Internet, has proliferated for several years. The aims of this study are (a) classifying the purposes of computer-dating usage and (b) investigating the computer-dating users' behaviors and interpersonal relationships (i.e., how many people they contact, how much they are satisfied, and how long they continue to use it). Then it might be expected that (c) they are related with the level of the users' loneliness. Twenty-six participants, who have used computer-dating, were recruited through the Internet and completed questionnaires that examined their loneliness, purpose of computer-dating usage and items regarding usage of computer-dating. The results showed: (1) there were two different types of purposes, "making relationship" and "conversation," and (2) the more loneliness they had, the higher "making relationship" purpose they had. In addition, (3) the purpose for "making relationship" promoted the later interpersonal behaviors on computer-dating.

This paper explores descriptions of natural planting as a hobby in the book, Shumi Taikan published in 1935, focusing on bonsai. The study explains how the number of cultural pundits who enjoyed hobbies and built relationships with each other increased in early Showa Japan.Chapter 1 describes the community and context surrounding bonsai and explains its importance. Earlier studies on the history of bonsai are also examined. Chapter 2 summarizes hobbies related to natural planting that are described in Shumi Taikan. Chapter 3 classifies bonsai pundits by experience and describes their characteristics. Chapter 4 summarizes the construction of hobby organizations by area and name of organization and also appraises a large-scale exhibition held at Hibiya Park.This study verifies that an increasing number of publications by bonsai pundits and of botanical centers on natural planting as a hobby in early Showa Japan resulted in widespread recognition of bonsai. Bonsai was initially recognized as a new type of culture that was considered harmonious with sencha and suitable as ornaments for tokonoma. Thereafter, hobby groups were systematically formed and small- to large-scale exhibitions were held. Bonsai was favorably received by the public, leading to an increase in exhibitions. Bonsai developed into an art form from the time it came to be considered unique to Japan, rather than as part of Asian culture in general.

Abstract The development of contemporary music reached its peak and a turning point at Expo 70 in Osaka. However, not enough attention has been paid to the composers then working, and how their works influenced succeeding generations. In this study I focus on Karlheinz Stockhausen, who produced the Auditorium of the German Pavilion, and examine his theories and practice of space music, or Raummusik. My conclusions are as follows:1 Stockhausen's Raummusik is synonymous with the concept of Lokalisationsraum(the idea that listeners recognize space through sound)presented by Herbert Eimert.2 For Stockhausen, the serialization of distance and direction in space implied the completion of the total-serialism.3 The performances in the Auditorium at Expo 70 were the first perfect realization of Raummusik, but the space-design as a closed system was very different from Japanese composers' attempts at acoustic design.

食用油脂が,日常の食生活に普及し始めたと考えられる明治期後半における,食用油脂の種類および油料理の特徴を,『食道楽』全9巻を資料として調査した。『食道楽』の著者である村井弦齋が提唱した油脂の摂取の奨めにより,種々の油脂を用いた西洋料理が掲載され,調理方法もかなり詳細に述べられていた。とりわけバターの使用頻度が高く,調理法も多彩であった。しかし,使用する油脂および食材は一般の家庭では容易に入手できないものもあり,実際に調理され食された料理は限られていたと推察された。明治期後半に出版された『食道楽』に著された調理法は,当時としては時期尚早の感は否定できないが,バターをはじめとする種々の食用油脂を数多く紹介し,食用油脂の摂取を様々な調理法を用いて具体的に示したことは意義あることと考えられた。明治以降の近代において,西洋料理の調理法および食べ方が西洋料理書および婦人雑誌を通じて知識層に伝えられたことにより,以後,油脂調理が広く一般に普及し大衆化した。その一因として,『食道楽』が果たした役割は大きいものであったと言える。西洋料理の手法を用いた油脂調理の啓蒙は時代と共に進化し,油脂調理が今日の多様化した食生活に不可欠なものとなる先駆けをつくったことが分かった。

Social Media, such as LINE, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, are getting more and more popular and becoming an indispensable part of everyday life. We select and use these ubiquitous social infrastructures, which have different characters. This research tries to show the relationship between such selective utilization of social media and Bourdieu’s concept, “habitus.” The results of our internet survey suggest that users’ leisure activities correlate with their favored form of social media. The style of leisure activity is related to users’ choice of social media, and can be considered a form of habitus.

In Japan, certified social workers are obliged to keep their clients' confidentiality under provisions of the Certified Social Workers and Certified Care Workers Act. Social worker-client privilege is not, however, stipulated in any statute laws or case laws. In this first part of the study, the authors give an overview of Japanese laws regarding confidentiality and introduce some discussions concerning social worker-client privilege, pointing out issues from both social welfare and juristic standpoints. The authors suggest that in Japan social worker-client privilege will possibly be more acknowledged in civil trials than in criminal trials. USA is far more experienced and rich in judicial precedents in this field. For instance, the US Supreme Court has ruled that clinical social workers have the right to privileged communication in federal courts. Part(2)will further examine these American case laws concerning social welfare and examine the differences from Japan, which will lead to the final part(3)in which the authors will clarify in which case the social-worker-client privilege should be respected in Japan and in which case it should not.

Arthur Conan Doyle abandoned Catholicism early on and later devoted himself to spiritualism. Looking at the composers mentioned in the Sherlock Holmes stories, many are Protestants, four of whom, Mendelssohn, Meyerbeer, Offenbach, and Wagner, wrote music using Martin Luther's Ein' feste Burg ist unser Gott. He also portrays the Huguenots who, after being chased out of France, resettled in the United States in The Refugees: A Tale of Two Continents. Doyle had a favorable view of Protestantism, especially the Lutheran and Huguenot varieties.
