'Lifeworld' is a social field in which people have everyday face-to-face communications and interactions, and in which what they say and do inevitably influences it. It is meaningfully autonomous from modern subsystem fields such as the state and capitalist economy in which actions are adjusted by controlling media such as administrative power and money. Lifeworld is 'the horizon within which communicative actions are "always already" moving (Habermas 1987: 119)'. It evades our cognitive grasp. It has a form of knowledge on its own, which comprises assumptions and skills that we make use of almost without awareness (Habermas 1987: 113-197; Nakaoka 1996). Habermas holds that in the late capitalism lifeworld is controlled or 'colonised' by modern system fields and may lose autonomy and liveliness. This article aims at elucidating how gossiping can inspire the embodied imagination shared by participants to prevent 'colonisation' of lifeworld by modern systems, by drawing on data concerning rabies, ninja and vaccination in Flores, Indonesia.

Creolization is a concept for a form of cultural reception in which superficial elements of a certain culture are borrowed and used apart from the original context. This concept originally came from the research of Caribbean languages transformed by the contact with the European languages, but is now applied to many cultural phenomenon occurring in the globalization. The Japanese culture which expanded its influence rapidly in these ten or fifteen years has also experienced such creolization in many countries. In this paper is analyzed such a creolization of the Japanese cultural elements, especially in the case of Ninja and Samurai in American comics.

This article deals with the relation between the medical discourse and that in the transgender community in Japan, which encompasses many participants of diverse gender identities. The participants communicate with one another not only in person but also by various means including internet. Sex-change surgery was recently legalized for those whose agony concerning gender identity cannot be removed by other means. A certain type of gender identity problems was medicalized as 'gender identity disorder'. Since the mass media reported a person who had undergone sex change surgery in Saitama Medical College, 'gender identity disorder' was socially acknowledged. Several affirmative reports contributed to make 'gender identity disorder' socially accepted. It seems that the medicalization is a great relief for those who have full assurance that only sex-change surgery can resolve their gender identity problems. This type of transgender people is categorized as TS (trans-sexual) in the transgender community, which also differentiates two other categories, TG (trans-gender), who may not undergo the surgery but take hormone treatment and TV (transvestite), who only manipulate their closes. Bu referring to the medicalization, a type of discourse that legitimizes and centers TS occurred in the community. It insists that only TS is pure and true and TG is less pure and further TV is rather false. While the medicalization aimed at saving transgender people, it leaded to the center-peripheral structure and to peripheralized participants' agony in the community. This article clarifies the process and logics how this discriminative structure arose, by looking at the medical and community discourse.
