The expectation and skepticism for science and technology coexisted in the 20th century. In that century, however, the skepticism was more focused on rather than the expectation. It has only been 12 years since the 21st century started. However, the expectation and skepticism for science and technology has already increased, and it seems that the higher the expectation is, the deeper the skepticism is. It is estimated that it is because the rapid development of most advanced science and technology, such as IT , artificial intelligence, bioengineering, nanotechnology, was far more than what we expected. Various contentions are proposed for the tendency of science and technology. The forward-looking contention that would be accepted by most people and has certain level of restraint would be the following." The application and development of science and technology cannot be suppressed by the society. However, it is necessary for humans to balance and point it to the right direction with their intelligence. It is the responsibility of the ordinary citizens who do not specialize in science to provide such information to scientists and actively participate in the making of public policy for science. The application and development of science and technology is for all humans." The first sentence of this quote is not directly connected to the second and the third sentence. It is necessary to mediate the "questioning for science and technology" with human life, especially the consideration of the" meaning of life" in order to connect these persuasively.It is because" the application and development of science and technology is for all humans." This paper attempt to interpret concept of the vulnerability for humans and their lives and its response, subsidiarity, based on the concept of" art of life" and "a three- fold urge: (i) to live, (ii) to live well, (iii) to livebetter," mentioned by a philosopher, Alfred North Whitehead, in order to deepen the" questioning for science and technology." It also examines the "art of life" as a "deed" that is reconstructed under "the dynamic and flexible process" as the socialasthe "civil public sphere," the societal as "role-sharing society," and as the complementary relationship of individual and organization promotes the" openness to response possibility." The fundamental of this "deed" is vulnerability and its dynamic acceptance, and "partnership" and "cooperation" as well as "solidarity" that mediate the mutual sympathy that relates to the vulnerability and its dynamic acceptance. And subsidiarity is the one that creates the" rhythm" for the process and bridges it" to live better" with profound meaning.

<p>This paper utilizes data from Hyogo Ward in Kobe City to implement the person-in-environment model of vulnerability. 612 persons with physical disability were surveyed regarding their personal information, disability and level of care needed, degree of social isolation, housing condition and special needs for mobility/daily living. The results were quantified and scores from the 5 variables were combined to calculate the overall degree of gathered were combined to calculate the overall degree of special needs. From this a multi-hazard mapping of social vulnerability was conducted to visualize the geographic distribution of PSND's. As a result, we were able to identify persons with high degree of special needs in times of disaster.<b> </b></p>

本研究では,わが国の文化を考慮し新たに作成された自己肯定感尺度を用い,女子学生の初経教育時からの月経の経験と自己肯定感の関連について検討した.その結果,初経時に家族が祝福する態度を示す,肯定的月経観・積極的対処行動の促進,随伴症状の軽減により,自己肯定感が向上することが示唆された.これらのことから,初経は一つ上の発達段階に到達した重要な節目という意識をもち,祝福することの重要性が再確認された.さらに,月経問題を主体的に捉え積極的に対処するスキルが獲得できるよう,初経教育のみならず発達段階や月経の成熟に応じた月経教育を家庭・学校・地域が連携して行っていく必要性がある.

Evolving knowledge of the structure and physical properties of metallurgical slags is summarized in current review. Slag structure, compositional effects, role of cations in structural modifications, parameters used to represent the structure, structural analysis techniques and effects of structure on properties of blast furnace slag (BFS) studied in details. The basicity, polymerization (Q) or depolymerization (NBO/T), optical basicity, Qn values, concentrations of bridging O’s (Oo), non-bridging O’s (O−) and free O’s (O2−) in slag are useful to represent the structure of slag. Methods and techniques utilized to study the slags are also discussed. The BFS is characterized by using X-ray Diffraction and Spectroscopy, Raman Spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy. The physical properties such as surface tension, viscosity, density, thermal expansion and diffusion, electrical conductivity and resistivity of slags are reviewed thoroughly which are heavily dependent on structure of slag. Viscosity is affected by polymerization or depolymerization of slag structure and cation size; electrical resistivity depends on Q, size of cations and number of available cations; thermal expansion depends on Q and cation field strength (i.e. z/r2); thermal conductivity is linked with rigidity of slag network which is also dependent on Q and metal-oxygen (M–O) bond strength. Degree of polymerization or depolymerization of slag structure also effect the surface and interfacial tension, it decreases as metal-oxygen (M–O) bond strengths (i.e. z/r2, cation field strength) decrease.

ニューラルネットを用いて文字認識を行う際に,特徴量次元数が学習,認識時間に大きく影響する。本報告では,認識率を低下させずに,特徴量を削減する手法を提案する。提案法には白ランレングス特徴量を用い,この特徴量を用いた簡易細線化処理についても提案する。主成分分析を用いて,白ランレングス特徴量を新しい特徴量に変換し,その累積寄与率と特徴量次元数の関係を検討する。シミュレーションから,従来法と同等の性能を実現する累積寄与率を求め,それより,提案法の有効性を示す。In the character recognition using neural network, the order of the feature gives the effect to the learning and the recognizing time. Without reducing the recognition rate, the method reducing the feature order is proposed. The proposed method is based on the White runlength feature. And the thinning algorithm is also proposed. Using the principle component analysis, the original feature is changed into the new one. The relation between the cumulative proportion and the new feature order is investigated. As a result, the cumulative proportion needed for the equivalent performance to the traditional method is shown. The effectiveness of the proposed method is shown with thesimulations.
