Time-varying patterns such as flickering lights can cause discomfort and induce seizures in photosensitive observers. An understanding of the temporal characteristics of visual discomfort is therefore important from both scientific and practical viewpoints. The purpose of this paper is to review existing studies on the impact of temporal characteristics on discomfort. Two related factors have been suggested as predictors of discomfort caused by time-varying patterns: (1) excessive contrast energy at the medium temporal frequencies to which the visual system is generally most sensitive, and (2) temporal deviations from the natural (1/f) statistical characteristic. These effects mirror the visual discomfort caused by spatial patterns, in some ways but not all. The interaction between spatial and temporal parameters needs to be investigated to clarify the factors underlying visual discomfort.

Point makeup perceptually affects overall facial color; for example, it takes on the tinge of the eye shadow color. This study preliminarily confirmed the assimilation effect by lipstick colors and the relationship between perceptual and esthetic measures. Four typical lipstick colors, red, pink, orange, and violet, were utilized. An averaged face varied based on two factors, lightness (lighter and darker) and hue (reddish and yellowish), was examined. Twenty-four females assessed the faces in terms of perceptual hue (redness for the reddish faces and yellowness for the yellowish faces), perceptual lightness, dullness, and looking-goodness via paired comparisons. Consequently, an assimilation effect of lipstick's hue on perceptual complexion was confirmed. However, a perceptual change in lightness could not be explained by assimilation or contrast; the redness of lipsticks enhanced the perceptual lightness of complexion. Dullness negatively correlated not only with perceptual lightness but also with perceptual redness of faces and physical redness of lipsticks. Looking-goodness clearly correlated with perceptual redness of faces and each lipstick color had its own effect.

樟の一品種セスキテルペン樟の葉から不揮発牲セスキテルペノイドとして,9-オキソネロリドール〔1〕,cis- およびtrans-3, 7, 11-トリメチルドデカ-1,7,10-トリエン-3-オール-9-オン〔2〕,〔8〕,9-ナキソファルネゾール〔4〕および酢酸9-オキソファルネジル〔5〕を単離,同定した。このうち〔1〕は主成分で,その絶対配置は(+)-ネロリドールとの関連で決定した。構造決定は,物理的,化学的手段で行ない,単離は主として吸着クロマトグラフィーによって行なった。

We describe fundamental knowledge of pharmacokinetics analysis for phase I trials, particularly focusing on basic parameters (such as bioavailability, volume of distribution, fraction unbound, clearance), estimation and analysis methods (such as compartmental and non-compartmental), points to consider (such as steady state and dose proportionality). The NCA is an abbreviation for Non Compartmental Analysis, and the meaning is pharmacokinetic analysis without pharmacokinetic model. There is something that we should consider in NCA such as AUC calculation method, handling method of not detectable concentrations, point selection for λz calculation, and selection of sampling time. Steady state occurs when the overall intake of a drug is equilibrium with its elimination. At steady state the mean plasma concentrations of the drug are similar by any dosing interval. In practice, it is generally considered that steady state is reached when a time of 5 times the half-life for a drug. For the dose proportionality, the measures of exposure, such as maximal blood concentration (Cmax), area under the curve from 0 to infinity (AUC), are proportional to the dose. The three methods, Analysis of variance of the PK response, normalized by dose, linear regression and power model, are used to assess dose proportionality.

人の計測とシミュレーションによって花火大会における混雑緩和や劇場における避難誘導支援など大規模イベントに集まる群衆の解析を目的とした研究が行われている.本稿では人の計測結果のシミュレーション利用を見据えつつ,特に人の計測に焦点を当てて解説する.まず,一人ひとりの人の流れの計測とシミュレーション利用についてこれまでに行われてきた研究方法を概観した後,混雑環境での群衆の計測について説明し,最後にまとめる.

Systematic representation of alkaloid biosynthetic pathways based on ring skeletons has been proposed because the skeleton nucleus of an alkaloid is the main criterion for determination in biosynthetic pathways. So the idea of ring skeletons was extended to apply classification of alkaloid compounds based on ring skeletons and to systematize alkaloid compounds and to examine the performance of this approach to predict biosynthetic pathways based on module elements. We constructed a 2-dimensional binary matrix corresponding to 2546 SRS and 478 pathway-known alkaloid compounds. Here, if ith substring skeleton is present in a target compound, the ith element was set to 1; otherwise, the ith element was set to 0. Relationship of alkaloid compounds with biosynthetic pathways are examined based on the dendrogram produced by Ward clustering method to the matrix. Of 12,243 alkaloid compounds accumulated in KNApSAcK Core DB (http://kanaya.naist.jp/knapsack_jsp/top.html), 3,124 compounds (25.5 %) correspond to the pathway-known ring skeletons (187 ring skeletons), but the remaining 9,119 (74.5%) compounds do not. By examining the sub-ring skeleton similarity of the remaining compounds, it might be possible to obtain clues of pathway information and systemization of all alkaloid compounds. Therefore, the present work focuses on comprehensive systematization of the alkaloid compounds and construction principles of ring skeletons in alkaloids based on subring skeleton profiling.

Recently, the adjustment of working conditions in a manufacturing process is indispensable for realizing manufacturing accuracy in the V bending of a sheet metal. This adjustment is called "Trial Processing", and is a factor for lowing productivity. Therefore, "Trial Processing Free", a method that can obtain accuracy within tolerance but without the adjustment, is required. In the V bending of a sheet metal, there are two types of bending process, i.e., (i) air bending and (ii) bottom bending, using two types of punch control, i.e., (a) stroke control and (b) force control. In this research, a series of analysis and experiments were carried out to clarify that (ii) bottom bending with (b) force control is most appropriate for achieving Trial Processing Free. It was also established that bottom bending at an appropriately controlled force can absorb the effect of uncontrollable factors such as the dispersion of thickness and material properties of sheet metals and bend sheets within a certain tolerance, because the bending angle is stable even in a very wide range of bending forces. This bending method with force control was called the "FCSS (Force Control to Sweet Spot) method" and the advantage of this new process was verified experimentally.

"Cement carriers" or "cement tankers" are bulk cargo ships which carry cement in bulk. They have become to be noticed in our country after the War, and now are being built one by one, and are serving for almost all of the long way transportation of cement. These ships have some problems awaiting solution caused by the peculiarity of cement and cement industry. In this paper we discuss these problems, and will consider of the fundamental design of these ships. At the next opportunity we will refer to their practical construction and the self-unloading apparatus.
