In the field of Japanese art education, the pigments employed in traditional Japanese paintings are rarely used, though using them in an educational context could be very valuable in imparting an understanding of Bijutsu Bunka(art culture)currently required in curriculum guidelines. In an attempt to explore how they can be adopted in today's art education, this paper explores two Japanese traditional painting technique books from the Taisho Period and highlights the common characteristics of the pigments described in the books and compares them with pigments that have survived from those times, or have been more recently developed for use in traditional-style paintings. The origins of various Japanese pigments are organized in such a way that they can be used as educational material. In order to provide background for this research, the first chapter considers how Japanese traditional paintings are created, displayed and enjoyed today. Also the significance of Bijutsu Bunka, which was newly specified in curriculum guidelines, is discussed. The second chapter, focusing on the refinement and elutriation of pigments used in Japanese traditional paintings, categorizes and organizes the features of the pigments used. The third chapter refers to the above two books and considers the changes made since then in the types of the pigment. The final chapter summarizes the characteristics of the pigments and gives a general view of how they were traditionally used and concludes that the pigments, many of which have been refined by elutriation, can be utilized effectively in the field of art education today. The author believes that intercourse between the past and present, and understanding and appreciating traditional art, offer new possibilities in the future of art education.

Cyanobacteria were among the pioneer organisms of the early earth. They first colonized bare rock and had a strong ability to proliferate in infertile substrates, such as volcanic ash, desert sand, and rock. Cyanobacteria store enormous amounts of essential nutrients and metabolites within their cytoplasm. Those that grow in arid lands can be a very potent source of organic matter and nutrients that can be used to counteract desertification. In this study, we explored the potentiality of cyanobacterial strains collected from several regions of Asia (7 strains), Africa (3 strains), and Japan (6 strains). Some of the soils had salinity levels greater than 5 dS m-1 and an alkaline pH of 8.3-9.2. Cyanobacterial strains were screened for their potential to survive in such arid soils by quantifying individual salinity tolerance, ability to fix N2 in a medium containing 0.1M NaCl, and rates of photosynthesis and growth. The inoculation effects on the chemical properties of Alashan soils of Inner Mongolia (China) were evaluated using AL-S and Tateyama cyanobacterial strains. The soil pH of the surface and subsurface layers indicated that these strains can decrease pH to levels that are conducive to plant growth. These cyanobacterial strains have potential as anti-desertification agents for the bioreclamation of arid soils.

土壌中の線虫密度の変動を深度別に調査した結果、感受陣品種栽培区の畦上では地表~10cm、次いで11~20cmの層で著しく増殖するのに比し、抵抗性品種栽培区の畦上では地表~30cmまで植付期の30%以下に低下したが畦間では70%か残存した。感受件品種植付時にOxamyl粒剤30kg/10a施用した区では地表~10cmの層で薬剤の効果が高かったが11cm以下の層では劣った。

We present design and implementation of a tactile sensor system, sensor suit, that covers the entire body of a robot. The sensor suit is designed to be soft and flexible and to have a large number of sensing regions by using electrically conductive fabric and string. The whole signals from the sensor suit are superimposed on a visual image of the robot. The construction of sensor suit with 160 sensing elements for a full-body humanoid and the experimental results to evaluate electrically conductive fabric and the tactile sensing unit are described.
