The euryhaline mysid Neomysis awatschensis occurs widely in estuaries and brackish lakes in Japan. Although N. awatschensis may serve as an essential energy channel to higher trophic levels, its feeding ecology has been studied only in sheltered and desalinated Lake Kasumigaura. To determine major food sources for N. awatschensis, monthly sampling was conducted during the day along the microtidal Yura River estuary from March 2014 to July 2015. Additional sampling was conducted in May 2019 to assess diel vertical migration in relation to feeding. Microscopic examinations revealed that benthic diatoms (e.g. Bacillaria paxillifer and Navicula spp.) dominated in the stomach irrespective of developmental stage, diel cycle, or season. Stable carbon and nitrogen isotope ratios in N. awatschensis and its potential food sources indicated great contributions to the diet of N. awatschensis from benthic microalgae (mainly benthic diatoms) in 2014 and from particulate organic matter (mainly phytoplankton) in 2015. Although N. awatschensis always concentrated close to the bottom in 2019, diel vertical migration might have happened in 2015, when fresh water occupied the whole estuary possibly due to river mouth clogging. Under the stagnant and oligohaline conditions, N. awatschensis could have swum up into the water column and fed on phytoplankton at night in 2015. This hypothesis may resolve the apparent contradiction between the microscopy and stable isotope analysis in 2015. In the Yura River estuary, N. awatschensis feeds primarily on benthic diatoms, although it can utilize phytoplankton flexibly in response to prevailing environmental conditions.

In the Sea of Japan, changes in the oceanographic conditions affect fisheries, and new phenomena such as blooms of the harmful dinoflagellate Margalefidinium polykrikoides and mass occurrences of the giant jellyfish Nemopilema nomurai have been observed since the 2000s. In order to elucidate and formulate countermeasures to such new issues, it is essential to enhance the oceanographic/biological data. However, data especially on the phytoplankton assemblage are limited. In the present study, we investigated the population dynamics of the phytoplankton community together with environmental factors at two stations off Tajima, southwestern Sea of Japan for seven fiscal years from September 2009 to March 2016. The oceanographic observations revealed the general pattern in the seasonal and annual abundance of phytoplankton off Tajima. The major component of size-fractionated chlorophyll a concentrations were micro-size (filtered pore size: >10 µm). The results indicated that there was usually a low abundance of phytoplankton in this area. Relatively high abundances (cell densities over 100 cells mL−1) of micro-sized phytoplankton were observed only in spring, but total cell densities were less than 10 cells mL−1 in most months of the other three seasons. The major phytoplankton component was diatoms. Based on the abundance and frequency, the dominant seven diatom taxa were classified into three groups: Skeletonema spp., Thalassiosira spp. and Eucampia zodiacus were dominant in spring, Chaetoceros spp. and Pseudo-nitzschia spp. were dominant in spring and autumn, and Rhizosolenia spp. and Leptocylindrus danicus were dominant in autumn.

The purpose of this paper is to consider the relations between the individual and the family in the Japanese Constitution. Article 13 of Japanese Constitution prescribes "the respect as individuals", and Article 24 Paragraph 2 prescribes "the dignity of individual in the family life". Therefore, it is said that the Japanese Constitution expresses a principle of the individualism generally, and besides, adopts the individualism that individuals are always superiority to families, moreover it adopts the radical individualism which breaks up families. However, the author had observed the process of establishment of the Japanese Constitution to interpret the constitutional articles, then arrives at the following conclusion: the Japanese Constitution does not always deny the protection of the family, rather protects the family.

Stepfamilies are increasingly common in Japan. In 2004, about three-fifth of all divorced couples were ones raising minor children, and more than one-fifth of all married couples were remarried ones. This article provides the current state of laws affecting stepfamilies. The review demonstrates that for the most part, stepparents do not have a legally recognized status in relation to their stepchildren. Some suggestions for legal reform will be made.

Today, Normal Constitutional Practice (Kensei no Jodo) is disregarded by almost constitutionalist in Japan. But it was built as Constitutional Convention. It triumphed several ordeals. In fact, a party government was stronger than any other organs. The privy Council, the House of Lords, the bureaucrats and the military authorities that should have veto could not overthrow of the cabinet without help by the Opposition. The strongest veto group was the House of Representatives. Its political resource was power of command by cabinet that includes the Ministry of Finance. The elder statesman Saionji protected the customs. Though it was indicated that parliamentary government was crushed by pressure, the essence is suicide of two major parties, and it disturbed constitutional government in The Empire of Japan.

Since the Judgment of the Supreme Court in 1995, the idea that 'Tolerance Theory' is right and that 'Prohibition Theory' is wrong has been debated continuously. Therefore, this paper explores both views. First of all, I researched 'Prohibition Theory', 'Tolerance Theory', and 'Request Theory'. Next, I questioned the Judgment of the Supreme Court dated Feb. 28, 1995 critically. Finally, I put forward a way to solve the problems of foreigner suffrage in municipalities. In conclusion, I justified why I think 'Prohibition Theory' is appropriate. Therefore, I think the problems with the naturalization of foreigners of permanent residence should be solved by the political consideration such as the amelioration of the condition for naturalization.

In Mongolia, combined with the dry and windy climate during spring and autumn, the exposed sediment of mine tailings pond becomes an additional source of anthropogenic windblown dust and poses potential threats to the surrounding environment and human health. In this study, we reported on our first attempt to derive the spatiotemporal distribution of dust originating from the tailings pond of the Erdenet mine using a combination of ground-based in-situ measurements and Himawari-8 geostationary satellite remote sensing. Temporal evolution of the dust plume visualized by the RGB imagery corresponded well with the in-situ particle concentration measured on the ground. Under relatively cloud-free conditions, the dust RGB imagery from Himawari-8 clearly showed the spatial extent of the white dust plume originating from the tailings pond, in the range of 2,040-2,748 km2. Therefore, the dust RGB imagery by Himawari-8 is demonstrated to be sensitive enough to resolve the highly localized anthropogenic dust, even from a point source as small as the tailings pond, and is effective in studying susceptible areas subject to associated heavy metal deposition and contamination.

20世紀のドイツの国土計画・地域計画において重視された「空間秩序」の概念は、戦中期日本の企画院等の国土再編成案に影響を与えたと推測される。また、空間秩序の考えを基本にしつつ、ミュンヘン学派ドイツ社会地理学が創案した「基礎生存諸機能」の概念は、ドイツにおける地域計画や地理教育の中で活かされてきた。これらについては日本における研究が進んでいない。本研究では、①空間秩序と基礎生存諸機能の概念を整理し、②それらが如何に日本の企画院等に影響を与えたのかを明らかにする。また、③ケルン貨物駅跡再開発などを対象として、日本の事例との比較を通じて、国土計画・地域計画に関する思想・手法の日欧での異同を検討する。
