本論文では,ハワイで得た多文化の経験をもとに,特に多文化教育アプローチに焦点を置いている。著者はまた,「ハワイ特有の」多文化を構築するのに大きく寄与した日本の子供向けテレビ番組に着目し,そのため1970年代に島で放映された日本の二つの特撮番組,レインボーマンとキカイダーに注目することで,本論文の主題であるハワイの複合的な視点の概念の意味を明らかにしている。

We report here on the theoretical interpretation of results related to compression experiments performed on the University of Rochester's four beam laser system. The experimental results show volume reduction on the order of 300 with compressed electron temperatures on the order of 1 KeV, critical surface temperatures also about 1 KeV and a density plateau in the vicinity of the critical surface. The theoretical work focusses on the effect of absorption time history, of reduced flux limits and of variation of the suprathermal electron distribution on the replication of these experiments.

1978年12月26日夜,Tigbauan(Panay島,フィリピン)沖,水深約7mの泥質地でトロール漁を行った際,他のクルマエビ類(Decapoda,Penaeidea)に混じって多くのサルエビ属(Trachypenaeus)のエビが採集された。そして,同時に漁獲されたT.asperおよびT.fulvusに混じって,一見それらと酷似するが精査すると,いくにかの点で相異する76個体(雄28,雌48)が発見された。その特徴は以下のとおりである。生時または新鮮時,antennal flagellumは白または桃白色,第1〜5腹筋の後縁部に狭い淡赤色の横縞があり,尾節と尾肢は赤色,尾肢は白く縁どられている。体全体の印象は淡赤褐色である。第2,3歩脚にmastigobranchiaがあり,第1歩脚ではこれを欠く。Petasma(雄の外部生殖器)のdisto-lateral projectionの下縁は凹型であり,thelycum(雌の外部生殖器)の前板は深くへこんでいる。以上を総合した特徴は既存の種には見られず,よってこのエビを新種と認めた。新種はフィリピンにおけるエビ類研究の先駆者Domiciano K. VILLALUZ氏(東南アジア漁業開発センター養殖部局の前部局長)の名前に因んでTrachypenaeus villaluziと命名され,同部局およびインド中央海洋水産研究所に保管された。また,他の3近縁種(T.asper, T.curvirostris, T.fulvus)との相異関係も論じ,更にT.asperはT.curvirostrisと独立の種であることを理由づけた。

Wild type phage HK022 was mutagenized by N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine to induce clear plaque mutants. A total of 225 clear plaque mutants were isolated and 198 of these were as-signable to one or the other of the two complementation groups of the corresponding cistrons which have been designated as cI and cII, respectively. Approximately 25% of the c mutants were found to be temperature-sensitive (cts); producing turbid plaques at 32 C and clear plaques at 38 C and above. From complementation tests involving cI and cII mutants, bacteria lysogenic for cII prophage were fre-quently obtained. Double lysogens harboring a cI and a cII prophage were infrequently found and single lysogens harboring only a cI prophage have not been recovered. Bacterial lysogens harboring a prophage carrying a cts mutation in the cI cistron were readily obtainable. However, such lysogens show a lethal phenotype at 40 C and above, although they appear to be fully viable at 32 C. It is shown that by incubation of lysogens harboring a cts mutant of the cI cistron at 42 C, it is possible to isolate cryptic lysogens which are non-immune but harbor at least one of the phage sus+ alleles. Genetic data involving cI, cII, and two complementing sus mutants of essential genes are presented. From these data the following vegetative map is deduced: sus4-cII-cI-sus3.

The selective laser melting could be employed in fabrication of near-net shape products for airplane and biomedical applications from Ti–6Al–4V alloy, which is difficult-to-process material. In this method, the localized laser irradiation forms the unique Ti–6Al–4V microstructures which correspond to the laser scanning patterns and local thermal history as it could be observed from sample cross-sections with OM or SEM. In this study, the effects of heat treatments on mechanical properties of Ti–6Al–4V samples produced by selective laser melting are discussed based on quantitative analysis of microstructures with image processing and machine learning tools. It was found that microstructures of heat-treated samples retained their original morphologies and secondary α phase precipitated regularly at β grain boundaries with increased treatment time. These microstructures were appropriately segmented and classified. Each α particle geometrical characteristics were successfully extracted and evaluated by image analysis. Importantly, the hardness of the heat-treated samples was lower compared to that of as-built ones and it tended to increase with the area fraction of α phase, the α particle width, and the nearest neighbor distance between α particles.

ヨーロッパ人が入る前には南米, 中米およびカリブ海諸国の一部ではアグーチが重要な蛋白資源であった。最近トリニダード・トバゴではアグーチを飼育繁殖して食肉その他として利用するようになっている。飼育に重要な餌付けのために, 消化器官の解剖学的知見が必要であるが, これまでの文献は, 数少なくまた, 胃, 腸など個々の部分について述べているので, 本報では全体を概観して口腔, 食道, 胃, 小腸, 大腸, 各部分の構造と長さおよび相対的重量を記載した。材料はトリニダード島南部のハンターから入手した10頭のアグーチを用いた。現場で採材後凍結し, 解剖はそれを解凍して行った。歯式は1013/(1013)=20で, 犬歯と前臼歯の間隙が広い。食道は長さ15.4cm, 直径0.5cm位で, 胃の長さは平均13.8cmであった。小腸の長さは全体で700±124cmであった。十二指腸と空腸の直径は1.4cmで回腸の直径は0.4cmであった。大腸のなかで特徴的なのは盲腸でその頭部の直径は4.2±0.8cm, 尾部の直径は2.4±0.4cmと太く, 胃よりやや小さい程度で, 盲腸の長さは平均22.5cmであった。結腸の直径は近位部は2.4±0.9cmとやや太いが遠位部は1.3±0.4cmと細くなっており, これは直腸とほぼ同じ太さである。結腸と直腸の長さは117±2.5cm。肛門腺が一対みられ, 長さ1.8〜3.0cm, 幅1.3〜1.8cm, 重さ1.3〜3.5gであった。左側の腺の方が右側よりも重い。アグーチは小腸が長いのが特徴で, 絨毛の密度の比較解剖学の材料に好適である。今後の盲腸, 肛門腺の比較解剖学的研究にも役立つであろう。

Reversible posterior leukoencephalopathy syndrome (RPLS) is one of the important adverse events following organ transplantation, associated with calcineurin inhibitors (CNIs). We describe a case of 54-year-old woman, who was diagnosed with RPLS within weeks after transplantation. Considering the risk of causing fatal rejection by discontinuation of CNIs, the immunosuppressive regimen of the patient was switched from a cyclosporine A-based regimen to a tacrolimus-based regimen. The patient recovered rapidly from RPLS following the switch to tacrolimus. This case demonstrated that not only discontinuation but also a substitution of CNIs would be a valid treatment option for RPLS in transplant recipients.

The three-dimensional topological insulator is a novel state of matter characterized by two-dimensional metallic Dirac states on its surface. To verify the topological nature of the surface states, Bi-based chalcogenides such as Bi2Se3, Bi2Te3, Sb2Te3 and their combined/mixed compounds have been intensively studied. Here, we report the realization of the quantum Hall effect on the surface Dirac states in (Bi1−xSbx)2Te3 films. With electrostatic gate-tuning of the Fermi level in the bulk band gap under magnetic fields, the quantum Hall states with filling factor ±1 are resolved. Furthermore, the appearance of a quantum Hall plateau at filling factor zero reflects a pseudo-spin Hall insulator state when the Fermi level is tuned in between the energy levels of the non-degenerate top and bottom surface Dirac points. The behavior of asymptotically flat Einstein-Maxwell fields is studied in generalized coordinates u, r, θ and φ that become null-spherical only at infinity. The field equations satisfied by the metric and the electromagnetic tensors are derived in the first and second approximations, i.e., for the first and second non-zero powers of r^<-1> in the Einstein and Maxwell equations. The peeling property of the tetrad components of the Weyl and the electromagnetic tensors is established for arbitrary tetrad. From the Landau-Lifshitz complex the energy and linear momentum radiated per unit time by the gravitational and the electromagnetic fields are expressed in terms of the gravitational and electromagnetic news functions in the generalized coordinates. Finally the transformations which preserve the form of the metric are examined.

一般相対性理論は数々の検証に耐えてきたが,ブラックホールの縁など重力が極めて強い場所での検証は行われていない。近々,天の川銀河の中心にある巨大ブラックホールの事象の地平面を観測するプロジェクトがスタート,そうした検証が可能になる。

We have investigated the current-voltage (I-V) curves of the benzenedithiol (BDT) single molecular junction as a function of stretch length of the junction. The BDT single molecular junction was prepared with the nano fabricated Au electrodes using the mechanically controllable break junction (MCBJ). The conductance of the BDT single molecular junction gradually decreased with the stretching length of the junction. We analyzed the obtained I-V curves based on the two different models; the single channel model and the field emission model. Based on the single channel model, it was revealed that the decrease in conductance was mainly caused by the decreases in the metal-molecule coupling and that the HOMO approached to the Fermi level with the decrease in the electrode separation. The energy shift of the HOMO was supported by the analysis based on the field emission model. [DOI: 10.1380/ejssnt.2018.145]
