ヤマトシジミの食味に及ぼす塩分の影響を明らかにするため,涸沼および涸沼川下流域で採取した試料のエキス分および潮汁の食味を比較して,水質環境との関係を調べた。涸沼川下流の塩分は潮汐の影響を強く受けて涸沼に比べて高く,軟体組織中の D-, L-アラニン含量は涸沼川産の方が涸沼産よりも高い値を示した。一方,潮汁の遊離アミノ酸総量は涸沼産の方が涸沼川産に比べて高く,官能検査では涸沼産の方が涸沼川産より先味および後味で強い傾向が認められた。

The mackerel small Tenbin angling (balance line angling) boats based on Katsuyama harbour in Chiba Prefecture are operating in Tokyo Bay through a whole year, changing season to season gear and kinds of fish to be caught as follows, mackerel pole and line fishing, squid angling miscellaneous angling (line fishing for sea bream, troll fishing for yellowtail, vertical long line for blue fishes and etc.).<br> In this study, whether the fishing ability of the boats will be fluctuated or not by the change of gear and fish were investigated on selected twenty boats operating over 100 days a year from the ones based on Katsuyama.<br> In three kinds of the fisheries, mackerel Tenbin angling, mackerel pole and line fishing and squid angling, the correspondent degree of good or worse catch in any combination of two kind of the fisheries was high, especially remarkable between the Tenbin angling and the pole and line fishing for mackerel, due to, perhaps, the reason that the fishermen well know the behaviour of the fish. In miscellaneous angling, however, such relation was not found.

初めて人工シラスウナギが得られて以来,ニホンウナギ仔魚はサメ卵を主原料とする飼料でのみ給餌開始期からシラスウナギまでの安定した飼育が可能であった。サメ卵以外の飼料原料も探索されており,既に魚肉タンパク分解物(FPH)を主原料として,ニホンウナギ仔魚がわずかに成長することが報告されている。本研究では,既報の FPH を改良した飼料によりニホンウナギ仔魚を摂餌開始期から変態期以降まで飼育し,シラスウナギを得ることができた。

Already in 1929, I<sup>(18)</sup> reported preliminarily on this subject, but at that time both experi-ments and observations were. not satisfactory, so that I have continued this study since 1934 at the suggestion of Dr. K. M<sub>IYAKE</sub>.<br> As regards the fate of the carpospores, D<sub>ANGEARD</sub> <sup>(2)</sup> has reported that the carpospores of <i>Porphyra</i> germinate and develop to the protonema-like microscopic plantlets after they are liberated from the mother fronds.<br> After my observation, anyhow, I think it is not far from the truth to say that the car-pospores of <i>Porphyra tenera</i> K<sub>JELLM</sub>. germinate soon after the mother frond liberate them, because not only I could easily observe this germination with the fully riped carpospores in the laboratory, but also in nature on the twigs of dead trees or bamboos, which were planted in shallow waters for the culture of the alga, I could find out many germinated young plantlets in the later part of spring-that is the season, for the mother plants, to begin to decay. These plantlets do not grow large during the summer season, and they propagate with monospores repeatedly. The young fronds which germinate in autumn on the twigs of dead trees or bamboos yield monospores which are transformed from the ordinary vegetative cells; and thus multiplication of this alga is done. Thereafter, this plant develops normally, and gives rise to the frond of <i>Porphyra</i> in winter. These facts observed by myself in nature were quite certified also by the results of my experimental cultivations of the plantlets in the laboratory.

The transfer of cobalt-60 from phytoplankton (primary producer) to clams (primary consumer) was investigated to obtain additional information about the movement of cobalt-60 in the marine ecosystem. The retention (%) of cobalt-60 in the clams after feeding radioactive phytoplankton varied with size of the clams and cell density and species of phytoplankton fed to the clams. At high cell densities (2×10<sup>8</sup> and 5×10<sup>8</sup> cells/l), the retention of cobalt-60 by the clams was reduced with increasing cell density and size of the clams. More than 43% of the radioactivity which was introduced into the pallial cavity of the clams with the diatom (Nitzschia closterium) at cell densities less than 5×10<sup>7</sup> cells/l was retained in the clams two days after feeding.

1998~2004年の4~8月に長崎県五島列島沖および鹿児島県屋久島沖で採集したホソアオトビHirundichthys oxycephalusの卵を顕微鏡下で観察した。本種の卵は片側に直径20μmの纏絡糸が1本と10μmの纏絡糸が5~7本,その反対側に6μmの纏絡糸を9~14本有しており,H. coromandelensisの卵に似た形状をしている。纏絡糸の径はH. coromandelensisよりホソアオトビの方が細く,これによって2種を区別することが可能と考えられた。卵の出現は鹿児島県では5~7月,長崎県では7~8月であり,水温により産卵期は異なるものと考えられた。Eggs of the mirror-finned flying fish Hirundichthys oxycephalus were collected from the drifts near Goto Islands and Yaku Island, from April to August within the years of 1998 to 2004. To identify species, the eggs were reared and the hatched larvae were observed. The eggs were 1.6-2.0mm in diameter. Three types of filaments were recognized. One was a single filament of 20μm, the others were 5-7 filaments of 10μm, and 9-14 filaments of 6μm. The number of filaments observed in H. oxycephalus was similar to that formerly reported in H. coromandelensis, however, the thinner diameter of H. oxycephalus filaments than that of H. coromandelensis makes it possible to distinguish between the two species. The eggs were collected in Kagoshima from May to July, and in Nagasaki from July to August, and this difference seems to be due to the difference of water temperature between the two localities.

日本近海の海底堆積物および陸土壌から分離した 605 株の放線菌についてアルギン酸リアーゼ(A.L.)活性を調べた。その結果,18 株の有望株が得られ,これらの株について 16S rDNA の塩基配列から近縁種と性状の比較を行った。このうち大槌湾の水深 100 メートルから分離した Micromonospora sp. OB40608 株が最も高くしかも安定した活性を有していたため,A.L. を培養液上清から単離精製し,諸性状を明らかにした。本酵素の分子量はポリアクリルアミドゲル電気泳動(native-PAGE)で調べた結果,114 kDa であり,至適温度は 50°C で,至適 pH は 7.0 であった。

The present report deals with the feeding habit of Parapristipoma trilineatum, Pomadasyidae, based on 1208 individuals taken from coastal areas of Kumano-nada (Kii peninsula, central Japan) from March 1978 to September 1980. Empty stomachs occurred more frequently in the samples collected by hook and line than in the samples collected by set net. Feeding activity was intense during the period from May to September, and declined after October. The main food of the immatures and adults, larger than 100mm in fork length, was clupeoid fishes, but crustaceans were fed on abundantly in March, June, November and December. Clupeoid fishes appeared as prey amimal in almost all seasons. Copepods chiefly appeared in spring and autumn, while amphipods in summer. The main food of juveniles, smaller than 50mm, were copepodid larvae and bivalve larvae. Those of young, 50-100mm, were Iucalanus spp., copepodid larvae, mysis larvae, zoea larvae and clupeoid larve. Maximum value of amax(=PLmax|L;L, length of predator; PLmax, mzximum size of prey) was 58% in the fish 50-100mm in fork length. The value of amax declined with growth for the fish larger than 100mm.

The geographical distribution of two subspecies belonging to <i>Sepia officinalis</i> LINNAEUS off the northwest coast of Africa was examined, using the materials collected by Japaese trawlers. Results obtained are as follows:<br> (1) The southern boundary of <i>Sepia oficinalis oficinalis</i> is in the vicinity of the Cap Vert.<br> (2) The northern boundary of <i>S. o. hierredda</i> is at the latitude of Cap Blanc.<br> (3) <i>S. o. hierredda</i> is found mainly in waters shallower than 50 meters and <i>S. o. officinalis</i> is found in every depth until at least 110 meters off the coast of Mauritania where both subspecies have been inhabiting commonly.

アリザリンレッドSで甲を標識したコブシメのふ化イカ2.5〜6.2万個体を石垣島の浦底湾と川平湾に放流し,各湾に設置された小型定置網の漁獲個体と石垣島の5ヵ所の海岸および魚市場で甲を収集し,標識の有無を調べた。放流個体は放流年の秋から翌々年の春にかけて放流点近海で漁獲され,小型定置網での混獲率は4.5〜18.0%に達した。また,標識甲は放流点近辺の海岸で発見された。これらの結果から,回収率は0.02〜0.08%, Yield per releaseは0.24〜1.28gと推定された。

1994年から97年の間に福岡空港に輸入された中国産養殖フグを調べた。供試した70尾の, 外部形質, 骨学的諸形質を, 天然フグのそれと比較した。臀ひれの色調は, トラフグ及びナメラダマシと大差なかった。胸ひれ後方の大黒紋の後方に1ないし数個の黒斑が一部に認められたが, トラフグ様の不規則黒斑がなく, 額骨縦走隆起線の内湾が強くカラスにも似るが, 頭蓋骨のプロポーション, 腹椎骨数, 臀ひれの色調がカラスとは異なるので, ナメラダマシと同定された。Seventy specimens of the cultured pufferfish Takifugu pseudommus imported from China to Fukuoka Airport between 1994 to 1997 were studied. The external and osteological characters were examined. The colour of the anal fin of the specimens was almost the same as that of T. rubripes and T. pseudommus. Although no irregular black spots similar to T. rubripes were observed on the body in accord with T. pseudommus, in some specimens (ca. 26%), one or a few black spots behind the ocellated humeral blotch were observed in concordance with the specimen ((59) 1099) collected by the author of the scientific name. According to the key to members of genus Takifugu, the specimen is identified as T. pseudommus. On the other hand, judging from the external appearance of the cranium and the degree of incurvation of the longitudinal ridge of the frontal, the specimens seem to be both or either T. pseudommus and T. chinensis. But, because the colour of the anal fin, cranial proportion, and number of abdominal vertebrae (8) were different from those of T. chinensis, the specimen was concluded to be T. pseudommus. In addition, the theory that both T. pseudommus and T. chinensis belong to one and the same species was proved to be incorrect. Furthermore, the pufferfish which had been taken for"Nameradamasi"in recent times in Japan is different from T. pseudommus.

The seasonal and horizontal distributions of <i>Skeletonema costatum</i> (GREV.) CLEVE were observed five times in the surface water of Yatsushiro Sea, Kumamoto and Kagoshima Prefectures, from October 1983 to November 1984. Numerically, <i>S. costatum</i> was by far the most important phytoplankton, with two maxima in February and in August. In terms of cell number, this species amounts to more than 50% of the total phytoplankton whenever the community density is more than 10<sup>5</sup> cells/<i>l</i>. The first maximum in February seems to be triggered by the release from zooplankton grazing pressure, since the high cell density of <i>S. costatum</i> and the high concentration of DIP were observed widely in Yatsushiro Sea. The second maximum in August seems to be attributed to the nutrients supplied through R. Kuma, since a marked horizontal gradient of <i>S. costatum</i> strongly related to those of salinity and DIP.

The degree of blackening of the canned crab-meat and that of the blue-meat formation of the same were known to depend on the pH-value, and respective amount of volatile basic nitrogen, copper, iron, and hydrogen sulfide.<br> As shown in Table 1, no difference was found in pH-valne, amount of volatile basic nitrogen, copper, total sulfur in the examined parts (protopodite, meropodite and propodite of the second to fourth legs), of the examind three individuals, that of iron being the same irrespective of the examined parts, but different in different individuals. On the other hand, the amount off hydrogen sulfide of the meat of protopodite was much more than that of meropodite and of propodite.

ドチザメは伊豆半島下田周辺海域において混獲されるが,その生物学的知見は少ない。そこで,下田周辺海域におけるドチザメの年齢・成長・繁殖について調査した。試魚は,1991~2012 年に採集された雄 113 個体,雌 123 個体である。椎体に形成される輪紋は雄で 3~15 輪,雌で 2~18 輪確認された。観察値より求めた von Bertalanffy の成長式は雄:Lt=1329−1079 exp(−0.178 t),雌:Lt=1436−1186 exp(−0.165 t)であった。50% 成熟全長および年齢は雄で 914 mm,5.7 歳,雌で 1083 mm,8.6 歳であった。近年,大型個体の数が減少しているため,継続的な調査の必要が示唆された。

The avoidance response of the jack mackerel Trachurus japonicus to a strobe light barrier was investigated in the laboratory, by electrocardiogram measurement. The avoidance response varied with the strobe flash frequency (1.7-430 Hz) and strobe light intensity. Avoidance was greatest at flash frequencies of 5 and 10 Hz and clearly decreased as the strobe light intensity (15 Ix•s) was reduced. Heart rate increased when the fish stayed in the dark section of the tank or approached the barrier, but decreased when fish avoided or passed through the barrier or strobe light. Therefore, heart rate change can be used as an index of fish response to the effect of strobe light stimuli.

<p> 我が国5海域における珪藻<i>Skeletonema</i>属の種組成を,遺伝子解析(LSU rDNA D1-D3)と微細形態の特徴から種を同定し,明らかにした。亜熱帯域の沖縄海域では<i>S. grevillei</i>,温帯域の有明海,富山湾,女川湾および亜寒帯域の噴火湾では<i>S. dohrnii</i>が優占し,<i>S. japonicum</i>が混在した。高水温期に塩分の低かった有明海や富山湾では<i>S. costatum</i>が,塩分30以上の女川湾や噴火湾では順に<i>S. grevillei</i>と<i>S. pseudocostatum</i>が出現した。</p>
