The purpose of this paper is to propose the stochastic infectious model with time delay and to study the stability of the disease-free steady state. In the realistic spread of the infectious disease, environmental change and individual difference cause some kinds of random fluctuations in the model parameters. Moreover, in the vector-borne diseases such as malaria and dengue fever, there exists time delay caused by an incubation period in the virus development in the vectors (mosquitoes) on the transmission of disease. Taking these facts into consideration, we propose a stochastic SIR(susceptible-infected-recovered) model with time delay. We analyze stability of the disease-free steady state, and study the influence of time delay and the random noise on the stability by numerical simulations.

In this study, we investigate the control problem of the load frequency of electric power systems that consist of consumers, suppliers, generators and the independent system operator. For this purpose, we adopt the model predictive control method, in which the control performance over a finite future is optimized repeatedly. The objective of this study is to provide an optimal electric price operation for achieving the steady-state of electric power systems with taking into account both benefits of consumers and suppliers.

For the design of spacecraft transfer orbits in the Earth-Moon system, we need to model the dynamics in the context of the Planar Elliptic Restricted Three-Body Problem (PER3BP) since it has a non-negligible eccentricity. In this paper, we investigate invariant manifolds of the PER3BP by analyzing Lagrangian Coherent Structures (LCS). In particular, we show that the transfer orbits from the exterior realm to Moon can be developed by employing the geometric characteristics of the LCS obtained by long time numerical integrations.

This paper analyzes the degree of influence of the presentation order on the voting behavior of participants in the book review game, Bibliobattle, and examines ways to reduce this influence. We collected and analyzed the data of Bibliobattle games that were spontaneously conducted in various places, and this method was applied to research other communication-field mechanism designs. We classified the results of approximately 800 Bibliobattle games collected from the Internet by the order of presentation. Subsequently, we compared the number of Champion Book awards secured by the first and second, and last and last but one in the presentations when compared to others in the presentation order. Consequently, the possibility of the first and second presenters acquiring a Champion Book award has a detrimental effect on the other presenters in the order. Conversely, the possibility of the last and second-last presenters acquiring a Champion Book award is advantageous for the other presenters in the order. We considered the possibility that the response order effect influences voting in the Bibliobattle game. Also, by performing the voting process in the reverse order of the presentation, we examined the way to reduce the influence of the response order effect.

Consumer-generated medias (CGMs) such as weblogs, online social networks and photo-sharing services getting to be mainstream internet services. On CGMs, users generate and publish various content, and other users review them. Internet live-broadcasting (ILB) services attract attention as a novel type of CGM services for broadcasting movie and voice in real time. And wide variety of content are circulated on ILB. Evolutional CGMs have emergent nature among users. From viewpoint, the paper analyzes users' psychological factors and their behaviors on the ILBs.The authors conducted a web-based survey, and ethnographical study of two users.As the result,the authors found that the users prefer to use real-time communication tools on internet live broadcasting services which have real-time content.In addition,though broadcasters desire to be viewed by the general public,they choose several styles for advertisements of their broadcasting.

This paper is concerned with the stability analysis of the stochastic infectious model with time delay. In the vector-borne diseases such as malaria and Japanese encephalitis, there exists time delay caused by an incubation period in the virus development in the vectors on the transmission of disease. Moreover, environmental change and individual difference cause some kinds of random fluctuations in the infection, recovery rates, etc. Hence, we propose the stochastic infectious model with time delay. The equilibrium solution with zero infected individuals is called the disease-free steady state. Since the stability of the disease-free steady state is related to whether or not the infectious disease spreads, we analyze stability of the disease-free steady state using the stochastic Lyapunov function. Moreover, we study the influence of the random noise on the stability based on the calculation of the Lyapunov exponent, and show results of numerical simulations.

This paper aims to propose a risk assessment method on countermeasure against infectious disease with high fatality rate using social simulation. We constructed a novel model which are able to visualize social vulnerability against outbreak of infectious disease such as smallpox. In this model, disease state transition of smallpox, infection process, social structure, human activity, social countermeasure, simulation condition that include parameters, and simulation results are described. We evaluate the social protection policies by an agent-based model using Spot Oriented Agent Role Simulator (SOARS). This model is able to visualize the risk of social vulnerability against smallpox and social vulnerability is different among generations.

This paper proposes a remote control method for a linear system with pointwise-in-time state and/or control constraints. Our technique guarantees achievement of tracking performance and constraint fulfillment under simultaneous occurrence of some phenomena over communication links, such as arbitrary and unforeseeable delays and lots of packet losses. Our ideas are to feedback information about not a state but a state-existing area and to share maximal output admissible sets with reference governor and switching control strategy that consist of the proposed technique. Through numerical and experimental examples, we demonstrate effectiveness of the proposed method. <br>

In this paper, we propose automatic hair detection and tracking system at video-rate by using Kinect to capture color and depth information. Our system has the following three ideas simultaneously: 1) Simple and high-speed system is built by the general technique using distance information. 2) Using a 6D feature vector to describe both the 3D color feature and 3D geometric feature of each pixel uniformly. Classifying pixels in images into foreground (e.g. hair) and background with K-means clustering algorithm. 3) Automatic learning and updating the cluster centers of foreground and background before and during hair tracking. This ability makes our system can track hairs robustly, which does not depend on its hair color and style, and even before a background with similar color of hair. Our system becomes a robust head tracking system if the face and hair are set as foreground.

In pervious psychological studies, human visual distance perception has been investigated minutely. However, the problem of human visual and tactual distance perception is still in controversy. In this study, human visual and tactual characteristics of spatial distance perception are measured. The results of experiment suggest that the human perceptive distance is larger than the actual distance if with tactile information, while the human perceptive distance is smaller than the actual distance if without tactile information. In order to analyze the results of experiment quantitatively, we propose a model of visual and tactual distance perception, while can explain the experimental results in a satisfactory manner.

Much attention has been paid on CMGs (Control Moment Gyros) as a large torque generator of spacecraft. There are many studies on singularities of CMGs. However, the steering law in their studies has achieved only singularity avoidance in most cases. In this paper, we propose a multi-objective steering law which achieves complete 3-axis attitude control while considering not only singularity avoidance but also another function. First, we introduce a steering law for both singularity avoidance and power optimization. Second, we propose another steering law for both singularity avoidance and achieving preferred gimbal angles. Regarding the control law, we apply a GS (Gain-Scheduled) controller via LPV control theory while introducing a Parameter-Dependent Coordinate Transformation.

This paper discusses a relationship between symbol emergence and embodiment. Symbol emergence is an alternative approach to overcome symbol grounding problem. We believe human beings' symbols constructed and held internally are originally based on our own embodiment. Therefore, autonomous social robots will also have to construct their own symbols by themselves. In addition to this, we have a nonlinear hypothesis about symbol emergence. To realize symbol emergence inside of autonomous robots, we propose Dual-Schemata model. This model enables an autonomous robot to generate its own symbols, called perceptional schemata, depending on its embodiment. In the end, we show that this symbol emergence has a nonlinear relationship with embodiment.

Software engineering organizations now tend to improve their processes according to such standards as CMM (Capability Maturity Model), a process evaluation model, in addition to improving their software products. This is because it is believed that mature engineering processes can bring high-quality products within the original schedule. It is reported, however, that the result of the improvement activities is strongly related with engineer satisfaction for the process, that is, effective improvement can be expected on the phases where engineers have not been satisfied with. This paper proposes a method to evaluate how much engineers feel the current engineering process needs to be improved, with Descriptive AHP (Descriptive Analytic Hierarchy Process), one of decision making tools. Our method, based on the idea that the necessity evaluation can be related with engineers satisfaction, evaluates four engineering phases under six criteria defined at CMM Level 2, determining which phases should be improved first. As a result of having system engineers use this method, we found that quality assurance activities in the manufacturing and examination phases need to be superior for improvement to other phases.

Recently, embodied cognition for robotics has been discussed, and various types of artificial neural networks are applied for behavior learning of robots in unknown and dynamic environments. In this paper, we propose behavioral learning based on a fuzzy spiking neural network to realize high adaptability of a mobile robot. However, the behavioral leaning capability of the robot depends strongly on the network structure. Therefore, we apply a genetic algorithm to acquire the network structure suitable to the changing environment. Finally, we discuss the effectiveness of the proposed method through experimental results on behavioral learning for collision avoidance and target tracing in a dynamic environment.

This paper deals with trajectory tracking control for non-minimum phase systems. We first consider to characterize output such that it tracks to a given reference signal asymptotically and that the corresponding input is bounded. In particular, we parameterize the error signals between the reference and the achievable output by using Q-parameters in the frequency domain. Since the parameterized set consists of rational functions which are analytic in the closed right half plane, we can solve easily the problem to minimize theL2norm of the error and the analytic solution of the optimal error is obtained. The optimal output is the projection of the reference to the space of achievable outputs. By using the parameterization, the simultaneous optimization of the error and the input deviation from the steady state input can be also solved. The effectiveness of the proposed method is examined by numerical examples.

The arm-driven inverted pendulum is an unstable and nonlinear system. Therefore, the feedback controller designed by the linear control theory cannot be stabilized in the wide range. This paper discusses a nonlinear control design based on the optimal regulator problem. However, it is difficult to get the analysis solution for this problem. In this paper, DE (Differential Evolution) and PSO (Particle Swarm Optimization) methods are used to get an approximate solution. In addition to the first order feedback gain designed by the linear optimal regulator, we design the higher order gain. Finally, the validity of our nonlinear controller designed by DE is verified through some experiments.

A genetic algorithm (GA) is proposed to solve no-buffer jobshop scheduling problems. In the case of applying the standard GA to these problems, no-buffer constraint leads to a deadlock state in the meaning that an operation cannot be processed on the next machine in a pre-defined machine sequence. Because it causes many infeasible solutions, the standard GA cannot perform an efficient search. In this paper, we propose a new semi-active decoding method which avoids the deadlock to generate a feasible solution. Computer experiments on some modified benchmark problems show that the proposed GA performs efficient search and obtains equivalent or better schedules than other algorithms proposed previously.
