Since service is an artifact as well as physical product, we can observe both function design and activity design of service in a conceptual design phase. Activity design requires designers to deploy all designed functions into activities in service delivery process. However, it is difficult for non-experienced designers to model complicated service delivery processes such as conditional branches and exception handlings while assuring the relationship to functions. To solve this problem, the authors propose a design support of constructing service delivery processes using a collection of structure patterns of processes called Workflow Patterns. In this paper, we make the Workflow Patterns hierarchized by the ISM method so that designers can easily choose a pattern among them according to purpose. The proposed method was implemented on a CAD system for service, and its effectiveness was verified through an evaluation experiment. As a result, it was revealed that the proposed method is especially effective in the case of constructing processes including conditional branches.

Ratio variable transmissions are used when a wide range of speed and torque is required for mechanical devices. Geared transmissions are applied for a wide variety of machines. However, power and motion transmission from the input shaft to the output shaft is interrupted during the ratio changing process in geared transmissions. In order to solve this problem, a novel ratio variable system has been proposed in the previous report. This system uses a noncircular gear that can realize the reduction ratios of two gear pairs and has accomplished the ratio change from the first ratio to the second ratio while transmitting power and motion. In this report, multi-speed ratio variable system to transmit power and motion continuously is proposed in which a noncircular gear with multi-speed ratio is incorporated. Geometrical form of the noncircular gear for this system is analyzed. The experimental apparatus is constructed and the experimental result shows that this ratio variable system can realize multi-speed ratio change while transmitting torque and rotation.

We present a simulation of meso-scale fluid in a grooved channel conducted using the many-body dissipative particle dynamics (MDPD) method. The simulation system consists of a straight channel with a rectangular groove and a liquid that fills the channel. In the simulation, an instantaneous liquid interface was defined and the time-series variation of the angle between the channel wall and the interface was investigated. The calculated angle was found to satisfy the Gibbs' inequality condition when the interface passes the corner of the groove. We also investigated the behavior in which the liquid filled the groove by varying the contact angle between the liquid and the channel wall. The results show that the feasibility of filling the groove, which depends on the contact angles between the liquid and the grooved/non-grooved channel wall, qualitatively agrees with the geometrical analysis. We also showed that a smaller contact angle between the liquid and the grooved channel wall and a larger contact angle between the liquid and the non-grooved channel wall causes the liquid to fill the groove.

We propose an efficient heuristic method for job-shop scheduling problems (JSP) with the objective of total weighted tardiness minimization. The proposed method uses schedule reconstructions by priority rules to guide a local search towards promising solutions. Typically priority rules determine the whole schedule and thus in corporating it with local search procedure is difficult. In our proposed method, a priority rule decides a schedule within an arbitrary selected time window and the rest of the schedule is determined by the schedule obtained by a conventional local search method. The priority rule is given by a linear combination of simple priority rules. To improve a schedule efficiently, an appropriate set of time window and gains of the linear combined priority rule is required. Therefore, we optimize the set of time window and rule gains with genetic algorithm. This rule-based reconstruction procedure and the conventional local search procedure are alternately applied to a current solution. In the experiments, the efficiency of rule-based reconstruction procedure is verified and the proposed method is compared with one of the most effective existing methods. The results show that the proposed method outperforms the existing method on large problems with sufficient computational time. The average performance is particularly improved due to the ability of rule-based reconstruction procedure to escape from local optima of the conventional local search procedure efficiently.

It is necessary for a small aqua robot to search for a target in order to investigate creatures such as fishes in a river or lake. However, control signals by electric wave from outside do not reach a robot easily in water. Therefore, aqua robots must search the target autonomously without signals from outside. It is important for a robot to gaze forward and recognize the target in water. In this study, we have used a fish robot named FOCUS which can swim in water by using the tail fin. This robot has some micro CMOS cameras and a FPGA circuit board for data processing. A red object is detected with the CMOS camera. In addition, FPGA calculates where the red object is located in the image. This robot controls the tail fin mechanism and submersible system in order to decide the course of the robot in response to the calculated positional coordinates. We have confirmed that this robot can recognize a color target and follow the target in water.

The objective of this study is to investigate aerodynamics and its generating mechanism of a road vehicle in steady-state cornering, which is the most basic cornering condition. The vehicle motion in the steady-state cornering was defined on a frame of reference fixed on the vehicle and it was divided into a rotation around a vertical axis and a sideslip. Then, aerodynamic force generated by each motion and its generating mechanism was discussed. In order to reproduce an effect of the rotational motion, a towing tank experiment was conducted to measure the fluid-dynamic force acting on a one-fifth-scale model of a sedan-type road vehicle. Assuming that the fluid-dynamic forces are expressible as a linear superposition of effects of the rotation and sideslip, first derivatives of the side force and yaw moment with respect to the yaw rate and the lateral velocity were analyzed by a multiple linear regression analysis. From the results of measurement and analysis, it was clarified that the assumption can provide good approximations of the force and the moment within a range of measurement conditions in this study. Regarding the fluid-dynamic side force, the rotation generates a centripetal force of the circular motion and the sideslip generates a force suppressing the slip motion. Regarding the fluid-dynamic yaw moment, the rotation generates a moment suppressing the rotation, and the sideslip generates a moment enhancing the vehicle's slip angle. Aerodynamics of a sedan-type road vehicle was estimated quasi-steadily by multiple regression equations with measured vehicle motion in an on-road test. From this estimation, the effects of both the rotation and the sideslip had the same order of magnitude. This result indicates that the effects of the vehicle's rotational motion have the same level of importance as the effects of the sideslip in vehicle aerodynamics in steady-state cornering.

Progressive ultrasonic waves cause acoustic streaming in a liquid. Although theoretical and experimental studies on acoustic streaming for liquid phase have been carried out, acoustic streaming for a solid-liquid mixture does not seem to have been investigated. The purpose of this study is to clarify the velocity distribution of acoustic streaming in a solid-liquid mixture. An ultrasonic wave with a frequency of 485 kHz was horizontally irradiated on tap water with aluminum particles in a cylindrical tube with a diameter of 120 mm whose orientation was kept horizontal; the acoustic streaming velocities were measured with the irradiation time of the ultrasonic wave, initial particle concentration, and particle shape as the parameters. The following results were obtained: (a) The higher the initial particle concentration is, the faster the acoustic streaming velocity of a solid-liquid mixture becomes;(b) When ultrasonic waves are irradiated on a liquid with heavier solid particles, the acoustic streaming velocity of the solid-liquid mixture decreases with irradiation time to a certain extent.

This paper presents a design method of an MIMO (Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output) I-PD (Integral preceded by Proportional-Derivative) controller, which is a kind of PID controller, via integral-type optimal servomechanism and fractional balanced reduction (FBR) of a plant model. FBR is a kind of closed-loop model reduction method. The validity of the obtained reduced plant model is evaluated using the v-gap metric. The design method is applied to flight control design of a quad-tilt-wing (QTW) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).

The operation status of gear device can directly affect the working conditions of the whole machine system. Thus, it is crucial to detect the gear damage as early as possible to prevent the system from malfunction. This paper proposes an intelligent diagnosis method for gear damage using multiple classifiers of support vector machines with extracted failure feature vector. The vibration signal of gear box is employed as the analytical data in this paper. In order to illustrate the representative characters of gear conditions, statistical parameters and characteristic amplitude ratios of frequency bands are extracted from the vibration signals in time-domain and frequency-domain respectively, which are served as failure feature vector for the following diagnosis. Moreover, to reduce the dimensions of the failure feature vector, the technology of principal component analysis is adopted to transform the original failure feature vector into a new smaller set of variables as inputs to classifiers of support vector machines. In order to classify different types of gears, multiple classifiers of support vector machines based on the binary tree are designed. The validity of this approach is investigated by the experiment. Three kinds of gears, namely normal gear, spot damaged gear and pitted gear, are tested on the power circulating type gear testing machine. The vibration accelerations of gear box are measured as original data. Most of the samples are correctly classified by the provided method, which demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed method on the application of gear damage diagnosis.

Human can realize flexible and skillful movements by controlling his/her musculoskeletal system and the interactive force with environments appropriately. However it still exist many uncertain biological motor characteristics in human movements even for a simple task. This paper aims to analyze and evaluate acceleration characteristics of the human hand during quick arm motion. First, the dynamic manipulability of end-point via muscle forces, called Human Muscular Mobility Ellipsoid (HMME), is newly defined. Next, the direction-dependent acceleration characteristic of the human hand motion is examined and analyzed its geometrical properties with an approximation ellipses of measured data. It is also discussed the problem that the conventional measures relative to the performance of end-point acceleration cannot represent the geometrical properties of human generated hand acceleration in good agreement with the measured data. Finally, the merits of HMME compared with the conventional measures is then demonstrated with a set of experimental results and computed results: HMME can be utilized in representing the geometric properties of human hand acceleration.

At present, many products are demanded both facilities and comforts. It is necessary for realizing comforts to measure human sensitivities. Therefore, many various sensory evaluation methods are proposed. Scheffe's paired comparison is one of these sensory evaluation methods, and is used widely. Especially, Nakaya's method, that is developed based on Schffe's paired comparison, evaluates human sensitivities and enables to add a relative score to the samples. However, the conventional Nakaya's method can separate the main effects, differences among individuals and combination effects. If there will be other factors that have an effect on the samples' evaluation, the effects will be neglected in Nakaya's method. Therefore the main effect tends to be hard to be detected by Nakaya's method. In this paper, we propose a new sensory evaluation method that enables to separate multiple effects. As this new method enables separate many effects, the relative error variance value is smaller, and it will make us to search factors easily and correctly that affect human sensitivities. This new method is applied to the loudspeakers' psycho-acoustic evaluation, and it is clarified this new method is useful for sensory evaluation when the difference is small and when there are a few panelists.

The objective of this study is to develop the wearable haptic device having widely operating range and highly efficient dynamic characteristics of the end-effector located on the tip of the haptic device. The conventional haptic device displays pseudo translational force to the operator's hand. However, there is a problem that the dynamic characteristics of the end-effector of these devices are restricted to the response of motion of the actuator. To improve the dynamic characteristics of the end-effector, the variable structure control which is able to choose either connection or disconnection between the actuator and the end-effector is developed. The proposed system controls (opens or closes) the hinge mechanism, so that the actuator and the end-effector can be connected or disconnected depending on the opened or closed status of the hinge mechanism. Accordingly, we develop the control system including the coordinate transformation of the displaying force using the angle sensor by taking into account large range of motion in the end-effector. To confirm the effectiveness of the proposed control method, experiments of force display for human operators were carried out. The experimental results show that the proposed system is able to improve the dynamic characteristics of the end-effector and to amplify the operating range of the hand motion in the force non-displayed condition.

This paper deals with an alignment device for micro parts, which have a size in the order of 100 micrometers, by using a board stage that is vibrated in the natural frequencies of the various vibration modes. Part alignment is important for manufacturing processes, such as the assembling of small parts and the inspection of parts. Since it is difficult to grip and handle micro objects, a simple and reliable method is required. In this paper, the design concept and guidelines to realize such a device are presented. In addition to the theoretical representation, an example stage was designed for the alignment of the micro parts. It was also analyzed by Finite Element Method (FEM) simulations. Also, the designed vibration stage was fabricated using a stainless steel thin plate. Experimental results showed that the actual vibration is similar to both the theoretical results and the simulation results. As an example of the alignment of the micro parts, some micro-seize electronics parts were tested.

In the normal operation of the scheduled flights, airline pilots maintain the level of the flight safety, economic fuel saving expenditure, punctual flight operation and passenger comfort. In this paper, we use the term "Flight Management Skill" as an operation skill with considering the above-mentioned factors. For the research of the Flight Management Skill, the high experimental cost and the availability of the full-flight simulator are the difficulty of the research. For the purpose of performing the Flight Management Skill research easily, we have developed PC tool, which displays a simplified flight situation and records the operation history. The PC tool does not reproduce all the components of the actual flight; we have to extract the significant items which affect the decision-making process of the actual flight. In the previous report, we have conducted experiments under the condition of Haneda airport runway closure due to earthquake. In the questionnaire, we have found comments claiming that, for the information of Haneda airport being re-opened was not automatically reported, the examinee decided to divert to other Airport without knowing the information. In this research, the PC tool has been modified so that the re-opening information of the destination airport is automatically reported. The experimental results demonstrate essentially the same results as the full flight simulator in the viewpoint of the difference between inexperienced and experienced pilots.

Aerodynamic noise with discrete frequencies is generated in an unexpected way from a slit between a flat plate, which is placed in parallel to the main flow, and a wedge that is placed normal to the flow. To study this phenomenon, we examined the discrete frequency noise generated by a subsonic air jet flow from a slit. It was found that the slit height and the plate length have considerable effects on the noise generation. In addition, the discrete frequency noise was generated only when the values of these parameters are within a limited range. Furthermore, it was found that the noise frequency is proportional to the jet velocity and is inversely proportional to the plate length. Finally, it was made clear from the present study that the interaction of the vortex, which is generated from the shear layer due to a wedge, with the wake of a flat plate is a major cause for the discrete noise due to a slit.

This paper reports the experimental results of the dynamic modelling using MIMO closed-loop system identification, controller design and implementation for hovering flight of a radiocontrolled helicopter. The helicopter is set on our handcrafted supporting device, and it has the roll, side-to-side and up-and-down motions that controlled by the aileron and the throttle. Several dynamic models with defferent orders are derived from closed-loop system identification experiments with the MOESP-type closed-loop subspace model identification method (CL-MOESP). Then, we compared their model with the real system, and LQR with a full state observer is designed and implemented.

In the present paper, WCA (Wants Chain Analysis) is proposed by extending CVCA (Customer Value Chain Analysis). CVCA is a method for visualizing relationship among stakeholders for analyzing existing social systems and designing new social systems. WCA is a method for visualizing wants and needs of stakeholders in CVCA utilizing Maslow's hierarchy of needs. In WCA it is shown that people's wants or needs are finally realized through the looped and linear chain of relationship among stakeholders. With various examples, effectiveness of WCA is shown by describing that characteristics of business/social systems structure can be clearly visualized using WCA. It is described that WCA is useful for analyzing social systems. “Think of others” should be more and more important for humans' satisfaction and happiness in the near future. WCA can be a tool for clarifying what is for others.

For the homeostatic control, there are Ultra Low Frequency (ULF) fluctuations on the backbone of the control. We think we can extrapolate state of human by capturing variation of ULF fluctuations. In this study, a method was conceived for capturing ULF fluctuations by performing the time series of the gradients analysis of the pulse wave taken from the surface of the back, which was defined as an aortic pulse wave (APW) with zero-cross detection method or peak detection method. APW was recorded during an experiment with an induced sleep test in the sitting position. The results indicated that we can find drowsiness, a predictive signal for falling asleep and an impending sleep by catching variability of 0.0017Hz, 0.0035Hz and 0.0053Hz of ULF fluctuations of APW obtained by the analytical method we had invented.

This paper describes the driving control system of a powered wheelchair using voluntary eye blinks. Recently, new human computer interfaces (HCIs) that take the place of a joystick have been developed for people with disabilities of the upper body. In this study, voluntary eye blinks are used as an HCI. However, the problem with this HCI is that the number of input directions and operations is smaller than that of a joystick, which causes inefficient movement. Therefore, assist systems are needed for efficient and safe wheelchair movement. This paper presents the system which is based on environment recognition and fuzzy theory. It can detect obstacles and passages in a real environment, and the velocity and direction are calculated automatically for obstacle avoidance or right/left turns. Simulations show the effectiveness and robustness for the driving position and position where an operation input is given. Furthermore, experiments were carried out and verified the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Wheels have high movement efficiency, simple structures and low cost. So various wheeled mechanisms are used in the living space. However, wheels have low traveling performance. Therefore, there are areas that wheeled mechanism can't move in. In order to solve this problem, various movement mechanisms are developed. Yet, they have many problems. For example, complicate, heavy, large, expensive, and so on. Because of these reasons, the spread of these movement mechanisms are blocked. Then, we propose TFW that have high performance of driving on level surface and traveling over a single step. Movement mechanisms that are equipped with TFW can travel over steps that conventional wheeled vehicle can't travel over. Consequently, we showed that TFW have high performance movement mechanism of level running and traveling over steps by experiments with a vehicle “SRIDER-II”.
