We are now studying high accuracy reentry guidance algorithms for reentry capsule. In this paper, we propose a real-time prediction guidance using numerical integration. The real-time prediction guidance is an explicit guidance law using numerical integration for range prediction during reentry flight. One of technical issues of the real-time prediction guidance using numerical integration is that navigation error and wind error lessens the navigation accuracy. Especially, errors in the last phase of reentry flight affects the navigation accuracy. So we researched that mechanism by investigating the navigation ability (ability of range adjustment) of several navigation segments.

We are involved in the research into navigation of mobile robots for indoor and outdoor use. In order to localize the position of a mobile robot, 3D map rather than 2D map is preferred especially for outdoor application. In order to build 3D map of an unknown environment, we combined two laser scanners for different orientation, and obtained 3D environmental information .We applied 2D scan matching method for the horizontal scan information, and the other scan information is incorporated for 3D map building. We evaluated the performance of scan matching method for the translation and rotation motion of our mobile robot, and then conducted 3D map building experiments in the university campus and confirmed that 3D map was obtained in a quite enough resolution.

For the future cohabitation of humans and robots, we are making research on home use robots, where human motion and environment must be precisely recognized. We used omnidirectional mobile robot with laser range sensor for this purpose, and made experiments on map building and human following. First, we adopted scan matching algorithm for the localization of mobile robot in the stable environment, and confirmed the map building capability by experiments. Next, we applied this algorithm to the mixed environment of human and robot, and succeeded to extract human motion and robot motion along with the map building at the same time. We confirmed the adaptability of scan matching algorithm to the human motion recognition which is the key to the human following by robots.

Taylor-made designs are required for golf clubs, in particularly for golf shafts, because the golf equipment have great effects on the performances of players. Our objective is to establish an optimal design method of golf shafts for each player depending on their swing motions. We measured the swing motions with a 6-axis sensor that inserted into the grip end not to prevent normal motions. We analyzed the head motions at the impact using FEM with the swing data, and we tried to figure out the best shaft spec for an optimal impact. The optimization algorithm was followed 4 skilled shaft designers, which means that we had optimized the 4 SPECs in turn as below; 1) Weight, 2) Torque, 3) Flex, 4) EI pattern. As a result, the distance of a subject, a female professional golfer of JLPGA, was improved 11yrd more with the optimized shaft, and she uses the optimized shaft for more than 2 years. Thus our method was proven to be efficacious for some typical players. On the other hand, we were not able to get desired results for another 2 subjects. We believe the causes of undesired results are that some players change their swing motions depending on the shaft spec. We ought to consider the motion adjustment depending on the shaft spec in order to design optimal golf shafts for each player in the near future.

Miniature parts are needed largely due to the development of mobile phones, PCs and medical products. As a first step of a research of micro/meso-scale form rolling, the equipment is designed and manufactured. For characterizing the deformation during forming grooves on micro pins, two directional mark-off lines on the surface of pins were used. The change in the diameter, displacement in axial direction and twisting at circumferential direction is measured from the experiments.

There are motor point maps as index of stimulation points to move each muscle for functional electrical stimulation (FES). However we'll usually have to search detailed motor points by trial and error when arranging electrodes since individual differences are large. In this research, we developed a system aids searching motor points of fingers and wrist muscles. It contains 12 × 10 electrodes which cover a forearm and sensors which catch movement of each finger and wrist. It chooses a pair of electrodes in order and stimulates a subject. When the response was measured, it records the response movement and the position of electrode pair. As a result, we obtained the generated motor point map.

In the context of recent servitization of manufacturing characterized by IoT, Big data, and AI, we require a data-driven front-loading design of product with service. This paper proposes a design method of service system that encourages co-creation using a structural framework called TriCyPSS (Triple Cycles for Product Service System) from the viewpoints of service chain and continuous provision among client business, my business, and partner business. This paper shows a case study according to the method’s procedure and details notations using a system modeling method called i* (eye-star). Using them, we clarify value in use brought by the service chain and continuous provision as well as data utilization and information circulation. Finally, this paper employs the method together with business planning methods and tools for practical use.

The automobile has an important impact on the daily lives of elderly people and their ability to participate in society. However, the deterioration of physical skills caused by aging is also a cause of vehicular accidents. In this paper, we conduct research into the cognitive function on driving ability, and propose a method to evaluate the driving ability of elderly drivers. The proposed system that the system is a computer simulator rather than an actual on-road driving experiment evaluates the ability to follow a road, the ability to avoid obstacles, and the ability to escape from unexpected dangers. To identify the operating characteristics and define an assessment index, 102 people over the age of 65 were surveyed on their driving attitudes. The investigation showed that the tasks and assessment index, and based on this system, another 92 elderly people participated in evaluation tests. The results showed there was a significant difference between elderly and younger drivers in terms of road-following and obstacle-avoidance ability. In addition, an assessment index with a five-level rating system, based on the characteristics of elderly drivers, was proposed.

Electrolyzed water generator can produce acidic and alkaline water from tap water and electric power, and is expected to have applications in the food and medical fields for sterilization, cleaning and disinfection. However, there are still many unknowns about the internal phenomena of the electrolytic water production system, especially the two-dimensional phenomena that have a strong influence on the miniaturization, power saving, and longevity of the electrolyzed water generator. In this study, multi physics modeling of electrolyzed water generator and two-dimensional numerical simulations are conducted to elucidate the fluid, electrochemical, and electrical phenomena in an electrolyzed water generator. The numerical model is built with governing equations from fluid dynamics, electrochemistry, and electrodynamics. The results show that the neutralization reaction with hydrogen carbonate (HCO3-) is an important reaction in electrolyzed water generator, and this reaction divides the anode cell into two regions (low pH region and high pH region), and the electrical conductivity is low in the low pH region. This region with low pH and electrical conductivity extends to the mainstream direction. The current density on the upstream of anode is higher than that of the downstream of anode. This occurs since the region with low electrical conductivity becomes increasingly thicker moving downstream.

The authors have recently developed a system for analyzing the spin on a baseball (Koseki et al., 2007). In the present study we analyzed the spin pitched by a professional pitcher. He pitched eight different pitches, each twice, from official pitching mound. The image of ball in the period from just before to 500 ms after the ball release was taken with a high speed video camera at 1000 fps. English alphabets E, M, A, and I were marked on the ball for image processing. Feature points from the image stream were assembled into a set of linear equations that represents orientation change between consecutive two frames by rotation matrix R, and the direction of spin axis and spin rate were obtained. Both values varied considerably depending on pitches. The recording of spin was suggested to be valuable for training if the data could be combined with those of motion analysis.

本研究は手動車いす駆動時の重心位置計測を試み、その妥当性を検証することを目的とした。8名の非車いす使用者を対象とした。三次元動作分析装置及び床反力計を使用し、平地・上り勾配条件でそれぞれ前後4種類の車軸位置で静止時・駆動中の動作計測を行った。車いす-身体合成重心位置(COG)を運動学的モデルを使って算出した。静止坐位において前後方向成分のCOG計算値とCOP値は非常に高い相関を示した(r=.99、p<.05)。COP値とCOG値の誤差は平均約4mmであった。静止時及び平地駆動時の車軸-COG間距離(AX-COG)は車軸の前方移動に伴い、各被験者とも有意に減少した(p<.05)。しかし、上り勾配駆動時は車軸位置間のAX-COGの有意差は示したが平地に比べると被験者によるばらつきが若干あり、車軸位置前方移動に伴ってAX-COGが減少しない例もみられた。上り勾配駆動では平地駆動より大きな姿勢変化が要求され、誤差が大きくなる傾向が示唆された。

In NC machining of noncircular contours, where cutter is fed along a straight line intersecting perpendicularly the roration axis of work piece, the cutter path usually consists of Archimedes's spiral segments. From machining precision and efficiency point of view, a desired cutter path should be composed of the fewer segments as possible under the condition of satisfying the specified interpolation error limitation. In this paper, an optimal interpolation principle of Archimedes's spiral for planar curves is presented and then a practical algorithm is constructed. The segment number of the cutter path resulted from the algorithm not only is the fewest but also the interpolation accuracy agrees with the specified value. It is also evidenced that the profile error of machined contour corresponding to the cutter path is perfectly controlled within the desired value, i. e. the specified interpolation error value, through detailed analyses. The interpolation results of using the presented algorithm for machining disc cam profile are compared with those obtained by Nishioka's methods (3) . The comparison results sufficiently confirm the validity of the algorithm developed by the authors.

Several observational studies suggest that the infant vocalization towards language acquisition develops through interactions with caregivers. However, what kind of underlying mechanisms works and how caregiver's behavior affects on this process have not been made clear since it is very difficult to control the infant vocalization. In order to attack this issue, we built an infant-like vocal robot "Lingua" as a controllable vocal platform. Lingua has two features; infant-like voice and high articulation capability. The shape of its vocal tract resembles that of a 6-monthold infant based on the anatomical data, and this may contribute to the former. 7-DOFs for articulation in the tongue is realized by sophisticated design of linkage mechanisms inside miniaturized vocal tract for high capability of its articulation. Preliminary experiments showed that the robot succeeded in vocalizing almost the same fundamental frequency vowel-like utterances similar to that of an infant.
