This paper presents a new strategy which allows us to achieve a successful Foucault pendulum with a portable and free-standing device developed. A numerical calculation for the two-dimensional Hamilton's equations predicted that the pendulum realizes the ideal Foucault performance when the time-averaged action vanishes. Experimental results strongly confirmed the numerical prediction from measurement of the action as a function of the distance between the control magnets. The device has performed the Foucault pendulum with the sufficiently accurate and reliable rotation rates corresponding to the latitudes. Independency of latitude for the optimal condition to the device was verified by the measurement of the rotation rates of the pendulum at different latitudes. Limit cycle and locking phenomena for the pendulum rotation were observed depending on the distance between the magnets. A criterion for their occurrences was examined by using the Adler equation.

E. Lask (1875-1915) said that Plato’s theory of Forms is one of two worlds theories. This opinion has been accepting vulgarly. In this note I observe that Plato certainly distinguishes aistheta(sensibles, sensible world) from noeta (intelligibles, intelligible world), but he does not tell they are on an equality with each other nor the former is independent of the latter.We read in the Symposium, the Phaedo, and the Republic that the Forms themselves do not appear as such to us but always are identical with themselves and the objects of our nous (intelligence) as “being of X”. The simile of the line of the Republic VI shows that each segment of the line is partitioned by the degrees of clearness and truth of cognition of the soul. So the simile is mainly intended to tell cognitive range of the soul rather than the kinds of objects. Generally speaking, the same object may appear severally according to the degrees of the line.A learner who imagines that the theory of Forms is one of two worlds theories at initial stage of the study can hardly emerge from incorrigible misunderstandings about the Forms.

環境資源問題の観点から有機分子材料を用いたスピントロニクスが非常に注目されている。本研究では有機分子材料とスピン注入源である強磁性体との界面状態を制御しやすい平面型構造素子を用い、強磁性体/有機分子/強磁性体接合の磁気抵抗効果を測定し、分子材料のスピン依存伝導特性を評価した。その結果、Ni_<80>Fe_<20>/Mq_3(M = Al, Ga)/Ni_<80>Fe_<20> 接合から、Ni_<80>Fe_<20> 電極の局所的な磁化状態に起因する磁気抵抗効果の観測に成功した。

走査トンネル顕微鏡(STM)発光によるNV中心含有ナノダイヤモンド粒子を用いたスピン検出へ向けて、NV中心を含有したナノダイヤモンド粒子を表面へ分散させナノダイヤモンドからの蛍光と磁気共鳴信号計測を確認し、原子間力顕微鏡(AFM)によりナノダイヤモンド粒子を識別し、その後、AFM探針先端へナノダイヤモンド粒子を取り付ける方法として探針を400度程の高温で加熱する方法によりナノダイヤモンド粒子を深針へ接着可能なことを明らかにした。また、NV中心が高濃度に存在するバルクダイヤモンドからの磁気共鳴信号の観測手法も確立し、トンネル電流注入による磁気共鳴信号検出に依る高分解能化に向けた基礎を構築した。 : For realization of spin dependent photoluminescence from a NV center in diamond by injection of tunneling current by using scanning tunneling microscopy setup, NV-hosted nano diamond and a NV-hosted bulk diamond were studied. Electron spin resonance (ESR) of a NV-hoseted nano diamond spread on the surface was observed, and the nano diamond was attached to the atomic force microscopy tip apex with annealing at about 400 degrees. ESR signals from a bulk diamond containing ensemble NV centers were analyzed.

A specialized clinic for middle-aged and elderly hypogonadal men was established in our institution five years ago. A retrospective study of the 511 patients who attended our clinic during this period was conducted and the issues involved in treating these patients were identified. The patients' age distribution, symptoms, serum testosterone values, treatment, and course were examined. The patients' mean age was 54.0 years (range, 35 to 74 years); approximately half of the patients were in their fifties. Most patients complained of decline in libido, general fatigue, and erectile dysfunction. The patients' mean serum free testosterone was 9.28 pg/ml; 40.3% of patients had a serum free testosterone value of less than 8.5 pg/ml, which is the threshold value for the initiation of androgen replacement therapy (ART) in Japan. ART was given to 220 (43.1%) patients, and it was considered effective in 100. It appears that male climacteric disorder and late-onset hypogonadism have become commonly recognized in Japan. There will be an increasing need for specialized clinics for such men in the future.

本研究は,割合文章題の解決場面で,小学生が構成した問題表象を調査したものである。研究の主眼は,児童が構成した問題の外的表象にあり,小学5年生が小数の割合文章題をどのように図示するか,また描かれた図のタイプと問題解決の成績は関連するかどうかについて検討した。調査の結果からは,児童が自発的に描いた図の多くが,教科書などで指導されている線分図とは異なるタイプのものであること,立式の正しさは,描いた図のタイプよりも,文章題の問題構造の違いを反映させて外的表象を構成できたか否かに大きく関連していたこととが明らかになった。
