Alaska pollack protein (APP) was previously shown to reduce serum triacylglycerol and the atherogenic index and significantly increase gastrocnemius muscle mass in rats. To determine which myofibers are involved in this observed hypertrophy, we stained the gastrocnemius muscle with fast and slow fiber-specific antibodies and measured the muscle fiber diameter. We observed muscle hypertrophy in both the fast and slow fibers of APP-fed rats. Although muscle hypertrophy leads to drastic lipid changes, the amount of lipids did not differ significantly between casein-fed and APP-fed rats. To determine the lipid changes at the molecular species level and their localization, we performed matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry imaging to visualize lipids in the gastrocnemius muscles. We determined that lipid molecules were significantly changed due to APP feeding. Thus, APP feeding changes muscle lipid metabolism, and these metabolic changes might be related to hypertrophy.

Dysarthriaにおける音節の交互反復運動 (oral diadochokinesis) について, 健常者群と比較してタイプごとに検討し, 以下の結果を得た.1) いずれのタイプにおいても/pa//ta//ka/の3種の音節で反復速度は有意に低値を示し, また発話明瞭度検査で検出困難な側面の発話の異常徴候を鋭敏に検出することが示された.2) いずれのタイプにおいても, /pa//ta//ka/のほぼすべての音節で音節の持続時間の変動係数は有意に高値を示し, 発話機能の異常徴候を鋭敏に検出するパラメーターであることが示された.3) 失調性dysarthriaでは, /pa//ta//ka/の3種の音節で最大強度の変動係数は有意に高値を示し, 発話機能の異常徴候を鋭敏に検出するパラメーターであることが示された.4) 音節の持続時間と最大強度の変動係数は, 明瞭度とは大きく異なる側面の発話機能の異常徴候を特異的に反映することが示された.

本論文では,階層型多変数データを可視化する一手法「十二単ビュー」を提案する.既に報告されている「平安京ビュー」が階層型データ中の各データ要素をアイコン表示したのに対して,「十二単ビュー」では個々のアイコンに割り当てられた変数の数だけの色を割り振り,この色の濃さによって各データ要素の多変数の値を表現する.また,拡大表示時にはデータの葉ノードを単位として変数値を表示し,縮小表示時には下位階層の変数値を統合し,上位階層のみを表示する,というような詳細度制御を実現する.本論文では,薬物群の分子構造情報と実験値を格納したデータベースより構築される階層型多変数データを例として,「十二単ビュー」の有用性を議論する.また,いくつかのユーザテストにより,可視化結果の有効性を検証する.

実大三次元振動実験により生成される貴重,かつ膨大なデータを格納するためのデータリポジトリシステム「EDgrid Central」を設計した.EDgrid Central はバックエンドに大容量のストレージと振動実験データの格納用に考案されたデータモデルを実装し,フロントエンドではメタデータによる実験データの検索やデータファイルの一括ダウンロード機能をWeb インタフェースとして提供する.これは米国のNEES プロジェクトで開発されたNEEScentral ソフトウェアをもとに,振動実験のデータを扱うユーザの意見を踏まえて必要な機能の追加・拡張,EDgrid スタイルのデザインへの置き換えを行ったものである.EDgrid Central を運用することで,振動実験データを格納するための半恒久的なリポジトリを確保するとともに,地震工学の研究者がお互いの実験や解析結果を日常的に交換,共有利用する環境を提供することができる.A data repository system, that is called EDgrid Central, is designed for storing huge amount of experiment data by using a 3-D full-scale earthquake testing facility. The EDgrid Central prepares large storage capacity and implements a data modeling for the shake test in the backend. The frontend is a portal for users to retrieve the stored data by meta-data search and bulk download. This system uses the NEEScentral developed by the NEES project in the United States by enhancing search and download functionalities, according to the EDgrid users' requirements. The EDgrid Central allows facility sites to have a permanent repository of the shaking table experiment and it also enables civil engineering researchers to share their data and reports in their daily activities.

“No Japanese can leave and return from abroad” was the law enforced during the time of the national isolation. This strict law had many tragic results for Japanese seamen who unavoidably drifted out to sea because of heavy storms.If luckily picked up by foreign ships passing, they were brought back to Japan by these kind foreigners, however, they were treated as violators of the law. They were forced not to move out, not to get aboard the ship again, or not to tell anything about their experiences abroad.This paper discusses the issue of whether or not these shipwrecked seamen ever told about what they saw or experienced in foreign countries. There are 3 private account telling about foreign life besides official records, kept secretly by local families.Yuunosuke, a shipwrecked Japanese seaman who stayed in San Francisco for a year under the care of Americans, and brought back to Shimoda, a newly opened port, in 1854, right after the Perry's Black Ship left Japan.Despite the prohibition he could not help but tell others about the other world he saw, and people were eager to hear his story. This fact may imply that the Government control prevented people's interest from growing. The government official in Shimoda tried to utilize his English communication ability by employing him as an official interpreter.The writer also discusses about his prompt learning of English during a short stay.
