[Purpose] This study aimed to clarify the effects of Capacitive and Resistive electric transfer (CRet) on changes in muscle flexibility and lumbopelvic alignment after fatiguing exercise. [Subjects and Methods] Twenty-two healthy males were assigned into either the CRet (n=11) or control (n=11) group. Fatiguing exercise and CRet intervention were applied at the quadriceps muscle of the participants’ dominant legs. The Ely test, pelvic tilt, lumbar lordosis, and superficial temperature were measured before and after exercise and for 30 minutes after intervention. Statistical analysis was performed using one-way analysis of variance, with Tukey’s post-hoc multiple comparison test to clarify within-group changes and Student’s t-test to clarify between-group differences. [Results] The Ely test and pelvic tilt were significantly different in both groups after exercise, but there was no difference in the CRet group after intervention. Superficial temperature significantly increased in the CRet group for 30 minutes after intervention, in contrast to after the exercise and intervention in the control group. There was no significant between-group difference at any timepoint, except in superficial temperature. [Conclusion] CRet could effectively improve muscle flexibility and lumbopelvic alignment after fatiguing exercise.

Diseases in the oral cavity of infants are very different from those of adults because the oral tissues of infants are growing, and the oral conditions such as food and drink or dental treatment materials are different. There are many indistinct points in the case of cysts or tumors of infants as there are few case reports on them. The authors have experienced the following interesting cases : Case 1 An 11-month-old male with a mucous cyst located in the left palate glossal arch.Case 2 A 1-year-old female with a fibroma located in the median palate.Case 3 A 1-year 8-month-old male with an embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma located in the left margin of the posterior tongue.Each patient was treated by resection under general anesthesia and the postoperative course was uneventful. Cases like the above are relatively infrequenct among infants. It is ordinarily thought that both mucous cysts and fibroma are caused by local factors and inflammation. Refering to our cases, we suggest that such diseases as mucous cysts and fibroma are related to antecedent embryological causes.

恒温動物は,一般に平均37℃の体温を維持していると理解されている。しかし,この中には冬眠動物という例外的な存在が含まれている。ハムスターやリスなどの小型哺乳類に見られる冬眠は,クマなどの大型哺乳類の冬眠に対し「真の冬眠」と呼ばれ,体温は5〜10℃まで下降する。この時期,冬眠動物たちの心拍数,呼吸数そして血圧も激減することが知られている。にもかかわらず,末梢の血管抵抗の値に関しては活動期のものとほとんど変わらないことが確認されている。この原因として,血液粘稠度が体温の低下により上昇し血管抵抗が維持されるというもの,あるいは血管平滑筋のアドレナリンに対する感受性が高まり収縮力が増強されるというもの,などが今までの認識であった。ところが最近の薬理学的および電気生理学的研究によると,このような末梢血管抵抗の維持には血管を支配する交感神経の伝達機構の増強や血管内皮細胞による弛緩機能の低下も重要な関わりを持っていることが明らかになってきた。本稿では,冬眠下動物の末梢血管抵抗の維持に関して,特に血管交感神経と内皮細胞の機能変化に焦点をあて,最近の知見を中心に考察してみたい。

Autosomal dominant cerebellar ataxia (ADCA) is a genetically heterogeneous group of neurodegenerative disorders. To shed further light on the clinical and genetic spectrum of ADCA in Japan, we conducted a study to determine the frequency of a new variety of different subtypes of SCAs among ADCA patients. This current study was carried out from April 1999 to December 2006 on the basis of patients with symptoms and signs of ADCA disorders. PCR and/or direct sequencing were evaluated in a total of 113 families. Among them, 35 families were found to have the mutation associated with SCA6, 30 with SCA3, 11 with SCA1, five with SCA2, five with DRPLA, and one with SCA14. We also detected the heterozygous −16C → T single nucleotide substitution within the puratrophin-1 gene responsible for 16q22.1-linked ADCA in ten families. In this study, unusual varieties of SCA, including 27, 13, 5, 7, 8, 12, 17, and 16 were not found. Of the 113 patients, 14% had as yet unidentified ADCA mutations. The present study validates the prevalence of genetically distinct ADCA subtypes based on ethnic origin and geographical variation, and shows that 16q-linked ADCA has strong hereditary effects in patients with ADCAs in Japan.

The advances in the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis are reviewed from a viewpoint on the development of new type catalysts. The reaction mechanisms and kinetics are briefly described to lead the Schulz-Flory molecular weight distribution. The product distributions from metal-catalyzed synthesis and the carrier effect are discussed on the basis of the Schulz-Flory equation. Finally it describes the recent efforts to develop the new type catalyst which gives a peculiar selectivity for the specified product distribution.
