The genus Liquidambar (Hamamelidaceae) is one of a number of taxa associated with the Daijima-type floras of late Early to early Middle Miocene age, which also include many warm-temperate to subtropical elements. However, Liquidambar is very rare or absent in the Aniai-type floras of the early Early Miocene. We describe fossil leaves, fruits and pollen of this genus found in the Lower Miocene Nakamura Formation in the southern part of Gifu Prefecture. The flora of the Nakamura Formation (Hiyoshi flora) shows features common to those of the conformably underlying Hachiya Formation (earliest Early Miocene) but differs from the unconformably overlying Hiramaki Formation (late Early Miocene) in the same region. This fact combined with the occurrence of Liquidambar in the Hiyoshi flora, associated with warm-temperate elements such as Pseudolarix, Castanea, Celtis and Lindera, clearly supports one of two former views : the flora is of a southern type within the Aniai-type floras.

携帯端末の自律的な近接無線通信により情報交換を行うアドホックコミュニケーションでは,ユーザ同士がつながりを認識できないため,他のユーザとの間でグループを形成することが難しい.本稿では,アドホックコミュニケーションにおける遭遇履歴を用いて,ユーザをグループ化することを可能にするクラスタリング手法を提案する.本手法では,遭遇履歴によるユーザ間のつながり 「遭遇率」 として表し,クラスタリングの指標とする.また,時間帯ごとにクラスタを作成することで,人々が様々なグループに属している状況を表現できるようにする.これにより,アドホックコミュニケーションにおいてユーザ同士のつながりを反映した情報交換を行うことが可能となる.In the ad-hoc communication where the information is exchanged autonomously between mobile terminals with short range wireless network, it is difficult for users to create groups with other users because users can not recognize the connection between users. In this paper, a user clustering method based on users' encounter history in the ad-hoc communication is proposed. This method creates clusters with the measure called "encounter probability" that represents users relations based on users' encounter history. This method can also represent the situation where people belong to several groups by creating clusters based on time window. This clustering of users enables the information exchange considering the user connections in the ad-hoc communication.

This paper examines the provision for preparing teachers in England, and looks at the balance between subject knowledge, pedagogical knowledge and practical experience in the classroom that is expected in order for a person to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). The paper starts with an examination of the historical development of programmes of teacher preparation in order to trace the different emphasis placed on different aspects by politicians, universities and schools, and changes in the balance of those interests over time. The historical review ends with the vision set out in the James Report. The paper then looks at the various paths to QTS that are currently available and the general emphasis now placed on teaching as a practical skill, in contrast with the profession reflective practitioner envisaged by James. The paper ends with a summary of the different classroom roles that are now defined, in addition to the teacher, and the suggestion that the role of the teacher now needs to be critically reviewed and modernized.

地下街などの発達により,GPSでは測位困難な屋内・地下における位置情報の需要が増加している.これに対し、歩行者が所持・装着したセンサを用いて、進行距離・進行方向を算出し移動量から相対位置を推定する手法が提案されている.このPDRでは、角速度センサが計測した値を積分し、進行方向を算出する手法が数多く存在する。しかし、角速度センサの出力誤差を原因とする位置推定精度の低下が問題となっている。そこで、本研究では、携帯端末のセンサを用いた位置推定精度の向上を目的としてカルマンフィルタとマップマッチングによる角速度センサの誤差低減手法を提案する.iPod touchで計測したデータを用いた計算機実験を行い有効性を確認する.

For the purpose of investigating the macroscopic and microscopic elastoplastic deformation behavior of two-phase composites : W-Ni-Fe alloys, the constitutive relations of W-Ni-Fe alloy and its microconstituents were measured by the Hopkinson pressure bar testing and usual compression testing, and then the elastoplastic deformation behavior of W-Ni-Fe alloys in uniaxial compression was analyzed using the micromechanics-based analysis method. The main conclusions are summarized as follows ; (1) The work hardening tendency of W-Ni-Fe alloy is in keeping with that of pure tungsten particle phase which is B.C.C. metal. (2) Measured flow stresses of W-Ni-Fe alloy under high strain rate loading are smaller than analyzed ones, due to local failure in the matrix phase of W-Ni-Fe alloy. (3) The compressive residual stresses in the particle phase are produced at the cooling stage in sintering. (4) The micromechanics-based analysis method can precisely analyze the elastoplastic deformation behavior of two-phase composites until large deformation.

Numerical simulations are effective approach for the safety design of machines and structures subjected to impact loading and the investigation of impact phenomena. Dynamic mechanical properties which accurately model the response of materials to impact loading are necessary for such numerical simulations. In this research, the equation of state and failure criteria are measured by plate impact testing, and then the accuracy of these measured dynamic mechanical properties is evaluated based on numerical simulation results. Followings are useful information obtained. (1) The equation of state and failure criteria measured by plate impact testing are sufficiently accurate for numerical simulations. (2) Pure W which is the brittle metal, follows stress-dependent failure criterion. (3) W-Ni-Fe alloys which are the ductile metals, follow time-dependent failure criterion. (4) W-Ni-Fe alloy has the lower critical value for spall failure than its matrix phase. (5) The failure strains of W-Ni-Fe alloys depend on the state of stress.
