Le Corbusier's architectural polychromy was analyzed on following 3 aspects. 1. The influence of De Stijl, which introduced polychromy into architecture before Le Corbusier. 2. Relations between purism's painting theory and architectural polychromy. 3. Relations between usage of equi-directional planning grid and architectural polychromy. The conclusions are as follows. 1. Architectural polychromy is the application of purism's painting theory. 2. To apply purism's painting theory to architecture, standard planes have to be established in architecture. 3. Identified with the standard planes of architectural polychromy, the imaginary standard planes to be provided by the equi-directional planning grid are able to apply purist's painting theory into architecture.

The large-scale residential quarter development which exceeds 50ha is done 374 cases. As for these residential quarters it is many in Tokyo and Osaka periphery. Japanese Newtown Act have made 49 Newtown. Japanese New town Act's law has been given expropriation right. Expropriation right was used 24. areas. Japanese New town Act's law because planned characteristic is strong.

The objective of this paper is to clarify the hierarchical spatial composition of dead end streets for residential environment in the old district of Macao. It has been developed into high density city where residential and commercial areas coexist. Dead end streets as buffer zone are analyzed focusing on a hierarchical spatial composition with three levels such as urban, building and individual. As the result, four types of hierarchical spatial composition into dead end streets were pointed out.

We analyzed the store planning by the textbook of it in the Taisho period before the Kanto daishinsai. The results can be summarized;1. In the early years of the Taisho period, there was proposal for changing to sales system that is displayed goods for sale already, because of improvement of sales competitiveness.2. The concept of the store-front planning was in the process of making like in after the Kanto daishinsai, but there were not typical patterns in store-front.3. In the interior planning of store, there was proposal for sales system of semi-western style for provincial store.

Zuigenji temple in Fukui city is a well known temple which was built by Masachika MATSUDAIRA, the fifth feudal lord of the Fukui clan. The main hall was moved from the residential building called "Kozashiki", which was a section of the "Honmaru palace" of Fukui castle. The palace of "Kozashiki" was built between the thirteenth year of the Bunsei (1830) to the second year of the Tempo (1831) for Naritsugu MATSUDAIRA who was the fourteenth feudal lord of the Fukui clan. The main hall of Zuigenji temple is of great historical importance as it is only remaining building of the original Fukui castle.

This parper studies on an ideal method of residence improvement of kampung of Yogyakarta, Indonesia through general improvement progress of RMK(Romo Mangun Kampung). Major finding in this parper consist of following points. 1. RMK was a sqatter area until 70's. Resistance movement, improvement campaign of RMG developed into the right of residence recognition of inhabitants. 2. RMK is high density, the narrow residence, a low educational background district, but the young group is improved on both working and income side. Community activities are maintained as a place of argument among inhabitants, 3. Buildings of RMG design are narrow, and infrastructure of the area is unarranged. The enlargement of kitchen and living tend to be done by the front of a house in RMK. Voluntary improvement consciousness of inhabitants becomes high. 4. Satisfaction for residence environment and a domiciliation state are connected with encouragement of house improvement consciousness of inhabitants.

This study is intended to clarify the architect's vocabulary of Facade design in nonresidential works of Kiyosi Seike focusing on the relationship between the expression of beams and columns and "ma". Facades are defined by the composition of sites and buildings, and the representation of beams and columns. The way to express beams and columns on the Facade and the way to compose the arrangement of "ma" is analyzed in relation to the symmetrical property of such elements. As the result of classification, 9 types of compositional schemes of elevation are identified, and moreover by analyzing, these schemes are classified into 4 types of Facade design. Analyzing the relationship between the expression of beams and columns and "ma", it is clarified that Facade design is represented by his sence of symmetry includeding Asymmetry in Symmetry.

This paper is an attempt to analyze three works of Aldo van Eyck (1918-99), that was designed when he was a member of Team X, from the viewpoint of repeated 'Spatial Units'. The results of the analysis as follows : 1) There are two types of 'Spatial Units' and 'Inter-Spatial Units' between each of them. 2) The outline of 'spatial unit' causes the relationship of 'figure- ground', that is the development of 'Poche' in the architectural principle of Beaux-Arts and also the universal space in 'Stempel Model'.

The intention of this paper is to make a thematic explication of Aldo van Eyck's architectural thought through his treatises titled "steps towards a configurative discipline." The analysis consists of three chapters as follows: Chapter 2 explicates his key concept of "place" and analyzes the structure of "a bunch of places" with reference to "Gestalt." Chapter 3 illustrates the multiplications of "twinphenomena" by way of "configuration." In Chapter 4, through analyzing his method of "repetition", it is explicated that he intends to realize a multimeaning of house and city as man's "home-realm."

The purpose of this study is to consider the characteristics of urban space in Kyoto based on the analysis of the distribution of small ritual facilities on the streets which called zizou. Zizou was not paid enough attention as a core of urban space because of its small size and complicated origins. But from the viewpoint of urban community organization, zizou can be the important element of urban community for it is worshiped by inhabitants everyday. Locations of zizou reflect the common consciousness of community because they are distributed on the streets where they consider it suitable to pray up to the present. And now we can find out several types of locations of zizou. This paper clarifies what zizou means in the urban space and how these types of locations took part in the organizing urban space in kyoto.

The purpose of this study is to grasp the situation of Hoshigaoka-Charyo in the early days. Then I consider the character, the circumstances and the meaning of this house. Especially, I take notice of several changes of the plan for this project. In conclusion, it found two sides to its character, intention of artistic accomplishments and spiritual. Then one may say that there were two situations, a sign of revival of Cha-no-Yu in the modern era and the Sens' scheme. It follows from what was been said that this house was placed the dawn of modern sukiya-style.

This study aims to examine the scheme for restoration of condominiums damaged by the Earthquake of 1999 in Taiwan. An outline of damages for housing, support measures for reconstruction and repair of condominiums, the application situation of support measures, and the progress of reconstruction projects are surveyed and discussed. The results are shown as follows: (1) the government attached improtance to restoration of condominiums, various support measures are enforced and expanded in stages; (2) the semipublic foundation played the importance roles in supports, especially temporary loan for owners who participate in project and purchase of ownership from nonparticipants by the foundation are effective; (3) despite these wide and sufficient supports, an progress of reconstruction projects is very slow and there still remains many condominiums without being rebuilt seven years after the earthquake.

This paper describes a method to calculate "natural exergies" associated with solar radiation, effective radiation, evaporation of water and underground warm and cool storage. We first examined the variable types of so-called natural energy, which is a technical term widely used in the field of building environmental science, and then showed that they can be defined by the concept of exergy. We call this "natural exergy". The values of any natural exergies are positive. For example, stored exergy under the ground as a quantity of state is positive without exception. We calculated the annual amounts of natural exergies in Tokyo, and we tabulated the results as a chart that can be used to evaluate the regional climatic situation from the view point of exergy.

This paper describes a method to calculate exergy and entropy balances of a leaf with an emphasis on photosynthesis and secretion. The purpose of investigating such balances is to have a better understanding of the exergy-entropy process of a leaf, which is a fundamental member of trees as a shading device with evaporative cooling capability for passive cooling of a building, together with the exergy-entropy process of various building environmental control systems such as lighting, cooling, and heating systems. We have derived the exergy balance equations for a leaf, taking into consideration not only the dispersion of energy due to the absorption of solar radiation and heat transfer, but also the dispersion of carbon dioxides, water vapor, and oxygen. Example calculation showed the following: exergy consumption within the leaf is 94% of the supplied exergy, which is the sum of the exergies of solar radiation, effective sky longwave radiation, and water; a half of the rest, namely 3%, is stored within the glucose, and the other is discharged with water vapor into the environment of the leaf and then consumed totally until the water vapor reaches the environment.

We developed a method to calculate entropy values associated with mutual diffusion of substances and to articulate an exergy-entropy process of human body in terms of water and other inorganic substances. The purpose is to have a better understanding of the consumption process of freshwater resource of human body. It was found that human body consumes 95% of the supplied exergy of inorganic matter and disposes of the rest, namely 5%, with urine. The amount of water, 1.0〜1.6kg/day, which is required by human body, was confirmed to be optimum for maintaining actively the state of exergy in terms of inorganic matters in human body, while consuming the least exergy of freshwater. The disposal of entropy generated within human body by urination makes room for consuming exergy contained by freshwater.

The purpose of this paper is to consider the roles of consultants for the rebuilding projects of suffered condominiums in THE GREAT HANSHIN EARTHQUAKE. The results are following: i) The consultants are town planners, redevelopment co-ordinators, architects, engineers and so on. ii) Their main services are planning, inner co-ordination and outer co-ordination. Engineering and architectural design are often served by other experts. Secretariat services were given by residents and consultants. iii) According to the types of project methods, we found the differences in the scales of condominiums, consultants attributes, services sharing and self-evaluation to the consultants types.

This study explores characteristics and opinions of the occupants of private temporary housing (PTH) after the Great Hanshin Quake by questionnaire. Concerning to the floor space of PTH, 40-60 m^2 is most popular. The building costis 400-800 million yen. Many of the occupants built PTH in order to restart their business or to release from evacuation life. After building PTH, they have complained a lack of space but recognized PTH could make them obtain local information easily. Many PTHs are built in the reconstruction project areas. It does not mean the project brought incentive to build PTH. Contrarily, the project has prevented the occupants from building their permanent house. It is necessary to introduce financial support program because the occupants faced difficulty to prepare building cost.

The purpose of this study is to make clear the fluctuations of water balance and BOD-loading in development areas, where the changing conditions of building's composition and the combination of water reuse systems and rainwater treatment systems. The simulation program, including monthly and weekly fluctuations, is developed to evaluate the fluctuations of water reuse systems. After this, case studies are conducted using this program. The results are as follows. Water reuse systems have large fluctuations when using rainwater treatment system. The fluctuations are leveled where office buildings and hotels exist in the ratio of 40:60 in development areas.

The noticeable point of The Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake is enormous damages in inner city, especially in wooden clustered houses area. In order to generalize the damages of clustered houses, we have made comprehensive surveys in 4 areas where had different kind of earthquake shock. (3 areas had a shock with seismic intensity of 7, the other had with 6) The purpose of this study is making following points clear. 1. The factor of damages in the wooden clustered houses areas. (The relationship of structure, arrangement, construction time to the degree of damages) 2. What the wooden clustered houses areas used to be before the earthquake.
