Ultimate behaviors of mechanically fastened shear type connections of thin stainless steel plates were investigated on the basis of quasi-static tensile test of 90 specimens. The specimens were formed from SUS 304 flat plates of 1.5mm and 3.0mm thickness and an SUS304 angle section of 3.0mm thickness, the connections of which were fastened by SUS 304 ordinary strength bolts of M12 and M16,and SUS 630 high-strength bolts of M12. Major observations are : four fracture modes, i.e., net section fracture, end opening fracture, block shear fracture, and fastener shear fracture were observed ; current design method has a difficulty in predicting the fracture mode which should take place among the four modes ; and current design formulae tend to overestimate the ultimate strength. From these facts, modified formulae for calculating the ultimate strength were proposed, which were found to provide a satisfactory prediction for failure mode and ultimate strength.

Delayed fracture susceptibility of 1.8 GPa-class ultra-high strength bolts was evaluated by an outdoor exposure test. Low-alloy steel bars with a chemical composition of Fe-0.4%C-2%Si-1%Cr-1%Mo (mass%) were quenched and tempered at 500 °C for 1 h, caliber-rolled at 500 °C with a rolling reduction of 78%, in order to create fail-safe steels (FS steels) with an ultrafine elongated grain structure. Subsequently, FS steel bars were formed into JIS M12 hexagon head bolts with a nominal length of 60 mm (FS bolts). Bolt heading was performed at 700~730 °C, and screw part was formed by thread-rolling at 500 °C to maintain the ultrafine grain structure with a strong <110>//rolling direction fiber texture. Conventionally quenched and tempered bolts (QT bolts) with a tempered martensitic structure were prepared for comparison. A steel plate was fastened by the bolts on 23 April 2013, and the outdoor exposure test was started on 21 May 2013 in Miyako Island test site of Japan Weathering Test Center. The bolt fastening force was 122 kN (=0.85 σ0.2 at thread part) for FS bolts and 89 kN (=0.70 σ0.2 at thread part) for QT bolts. The outdoor exposure test demonstrated an excellent delayed fracture resistance of FS bolts at the ultra-high tensile strength of 1.8 GPa; FS bolts have not been broken for 53 months, in contrast to QT bolts exhibiting delayed fracture. Intergranular cracking along the prior-austenite grain boundaries was commonly observed in the broken QT bolts. The accelerated laboratory test using tensile tests of pre-hydrogen-charged specimens and immersion test (30 °C, pH2) showed that the FS bolts had high resistance to hydrogen embrittlement, and it was in good agreement with the result of outdoor exposure test of the FS bolts.

現在の医療制度の下では,音楽療法を医療として実践するにはさまざまな制約が伴う.しかし,音楽療法士がセッションを行うのではなく,音楽の要素を従来の医療に取り入れるという手法であれば,音楽のもつ力を役立てることができる.リハビリテーション医療では,自主トレーニングの継続性に効果が期待でき,管楽器を用いることで,呼吸リハビリテーションにも応用可能である.

目的:初発脳卒中で急性期病院に入院した高齢患者の子が親の入院中に抱く思いを明らかにする。方法:急性期病院に入院した65歳以上の初発脳卒中患者の子10名に半構造化面接を行い質的記述的に分析した。結果:高齢脳卒中患者の子は,親が突然に【脳卒中になったことに衝撃を受ける】思いを抱いていた。親の命が危機にさらされることで改めて【親の生は尊い】とし,親が脳卒中を発症したことや障害を負ったことに【自分にはどうしようもないから心が痛む】と思っていた。それでもやはり,親には脳卒中発症前の【もとの姿を取り戻してほしい】と願い,治療にのぞむ親に対して【子としてできることをしてあげたい】が,障害を負った親と自分の【今後の生活が悩ましい】という思いを抱いていた。考察:看護師は高齢脳卒中患者の子が抱く思いを理解し,衝撃や苦悩を和らげるとともに,子としての役割を果たせるよう支援することの重要性が示唆された。

Quality of life (QOL) is a subjective assessment and is included among patient-re-ported outcome (PRO) studies. QOL is as important for cancer patients as objectiveassessments such as survival and response rates. However, PRO studies are more diffi-cult to conduct than are studies to assess objective data. Regarding QOL studies whichare important among PRO studies, first we describe QOL, which Dr. Hayashi promotedaiming to improve. Then we describe the methods of assessing QOL. Finally, we in-troduce a novel self-monitoring QOL intervention. In the methods of assessing QOL,Minimal clinically important difference (MCID) and response shift are major challengesamong the methods of assessing QOL. MCID enables recognition of the patient’s per-ceptions, as well as the clinical outcomes. It is important to consider response shift wheninterpreting actual change of QOL. In the introduction of novel self-monitoring QOLintervention, QOL assessments are often seen as being for research purposes, thoughQOL self-monitoring should also be implemented in daily clinical routines. QOL as-sessment is often used as an outcome measure in clinical trials, and cancer diagnosisand treatments affect patients’ QOL. However, medical personnel may not sufficientlyunderstand patients’ problems, including QOL. In advancing the study of QOL, it is afuture task to address how QOL assessment information is to be fed back to patients.

Mass spectrometry-based proteomics platforms have been widely used as ‘proteome sequencers’ to characterize the proteomes of a wide range of organisms. The work-flow generally involves multiple steps of sample preparation, peptide purification/concentration/pre-fractionation, and nanoLC/MS/MS measurement. This review focuses on our contributions to the technical development of current proteomics platforms, and includes a consideration of the limitations of these systems, together with the prospects for developing superior new-generation proteome sequencers.
