In terms of absolute shortages of donors, organ transplantation in Japan is in a more serious position than in Europe or the United States. In Japan, a law allowing organ transplantation from brain-dead donors finally came into force in October 1997. The first pancreas transplantation (PTx) was successfully performed at Osaka University Hospital in April 2000. Since then, however, only 86 cases of procurement have occurred over the approximately 13 years after introduction of the law; it was very strict and limited to organ procurement from donors who had provided prior written consent. The law was eventually revised in July 2010 to more closely resemble laws in Europe and the U. S.After this revision, the number of donations has increased approximately seven-fold. The number of such procedures totaled 146 (33.0/year, as of December 31, 2014) after the revision, compared to 64 (4.9/year) before the revision. However, the rate of marginal donors is 67.1%, which is still high.Although the number of donors increased, donor shortages and severe environment surrounding donors still exist in our country. Transplant outcomes, however, are comparable to those in Europe and the U. S.This report examines the present status and problems of PTx in Japan from the perspective of “marginal donors.”

醸造において,水の問題は非常に重要視される。例えば,宮水の特徴は,カリウムとリン酸にあるといわれ,酵母の発酵性とカリウムやリン酸の関係については多く研究や解析がなされている。これらの研究に加え,亜鉛もまたアルコール発酵に重要であるということが,周辺の分子メカニズムとともに証明されてきている。亜鉛は生物にとって必須の元素であり,酵素活性や遺伝子発現制御因子の活性など多くのタンパク質の活性に関与しているが,アルコール発酵系の酵素にも亜鉛を要求するものがある。亜鉛と本酵素は単に酵素活性という点だけでなく,遺伝子発現も含めてドラスティックに相互に関係していることが明らかとなってきた。今回,亜鉛とアルコール発酵系の巧妙な関係について解説をしていただいた。

A survey was conducted among patients that use health insurance pharmacies to determine the importance of drug consultation contents that are discussed during “holiday and night hours” and “regular open hours”. We investigated differences in the degree of importance in consultation topics for each drug between “holiday and night hours” and “regular open hours”. Also, for each time period, we also attempted to identify priority drug consultation topics for multiple medications. Three important consultation topics during “holiday and night hours” were found to be “drug interaction”, “actions to be taken in an emergency” and “whether or not to take a medication”. When drug consultation topics were compared between “holiday and night hours” and “regular open hours”, topics regarding “expiration date” and “indication” were found to be of higher importance during “regular open hours”. In regard to ideal patient consultations at pharmacies, based on the fact that i) the consultation contents differ depending on the patient's background and the time of day, and ii) the patient's needs differ from the topics of information covered when providing medication instructions and other information, the above results suggest that consultations need to be improved and aligned with the patient's needs.

内陸地殻内で発生する地震を対象として、既存の活断層図等の文献による調査、空中写真判読によるリニアメント調査、現地における地表踏査等の詳細な地質学的調査によっても、震源位置と地震規模を前もって特定できない地震を「震源を事前に特定できない地震」と定義し、その地震動レベルを震源近傍の硬質地盤上の強震記録を用いて設定した。検討対象は、日本およびカリフォルニアで発生した計41 の内陸地殻内地震である。地質学的調査による地震の分類を行い、9 地震12 地点の計15 記録 (30 水平成分) の強震記録を、震源を事前に特定できない地震の上限レベルの検討に用いた。Vs=700m/s 相当の岩盤上における水平方向の地震動の上限レベルとして、最大加速度値450 cm/s/s、加速度応答値1200cm/s/s、速度応答値100 cm/s が得られた。

The legal status of religion everywhere reflects the development ofreligious traditions and institutions, shared cultural experiences, andprevailing ideas about law, government, and individual freedom. Whilethe United States is often presented as a guide to reconciling the demandsof democracy, diversity, and religious commitment, it is not a universalideal, or even a model for all developed democracies. The Americanexperience is a unique combination of Enlightenment politics, ProtestantChristianity, and constitutional democracy that is unlikely to be repeated.The historical interaction of those elements, however, offers importantinsights into contemporary American politics and may suggest realisticways to understand the relationship between religion, law, and society inother contexts.
