少々派手な装いのエッフェル塔の隣には小ぶりのスフィンクス。そしてベニスに似せた水路にはゴンドラがゆらゆらとしている。夜になると,巨大な噴水の池では,光と水のエンターテイメント・ショーが華やかに繰り広げられる。もうひとつの人口池で数時間ごとにおこなわれる海賊の戦闘ショーも,観光客の人気を集めている。まるでテーマパークのような様相を呈する,カジノとショービジネスの街,ラスベガス。そのきらびやかな繁華街を抜けると,拡大の一途をたどる住宅街やショッピングセンターが立ち並び,それは典型的なアメリカの郊外の景観である。こぎれいな郊外の外に広がるのが,どこまでも続く乾燥した砂漠の景色だ。この砂漠のメトロポリスから北東にしばらく行くと,高速道路の脇に「ヒッチハイク禁止」という看板が立っている。

An antioxidant Was purified from human placenta extract (HPE) by using gel filtration, liquid-liquid extraction, silicagel column chromatography, and HPLC. The purified antioxidant was identified to be L-tryptophan (L-Trp). L-Trp showed higher inhibitory activity than mannitol and DMSO on the Fenton reaction-induced degradation of 2-deoxy-D-ribose. L-Trp also had much higher inhibitory activity on the cytochrome P-450-dependent lipid peroxidation than the previously identified antioxidants of HPE, L-phenylalanine, L-tyrosine and uracil. On the other hand, the inhibitory effect of L-Trp on the Fenton reactioninduced protein oxidation was smaller than that of uracil. These results suggest that L-Trp is a main antioxidant of HPE of which the effect is based on the suppression of lipid peroxidation in the oxidative stress status.

Grid プログラミングモデルの1 つであるGridRPCの参照実装としてNinf-G2の開発を行い,性能を評価した.広域に分散した複数台のクラスタから構成される大規模Grid 環境上でアプリケーションを効率良く実行することを目的とするNinf-G2は,関数ハンドル同時生成機能やリモートオブジェクトを実装することで,遠隔手続き呼び出しにともなう起動コストや通信コストの低減を図るとともに,ハートビート機能や関数ハンドル作成タイムアウト機能,サーバ属性の個別設定機能を提供することで,非均質,不安定で動的に変化するGrid環境への対応を図っている.典型的なタスク並列アプリケーションである気象シミュレーションプログラムを対象に,6台のクラスタから構成されるGridテストベッド上でNinf-G2の性能評価を行った.その結果,個々のタスクの実行時間が十数秒から数十秒程度の比較的粒度の小さいシミュレーションであっても,200台以上のプロセッサを用いて効率的に実行可能であることが分かった.A high performance GridRPC system called Ninf-G2 has been developed and its performance was evaluated. Ninf-G2 aims to enable applications to run efficiently on a large scale Grid environment which consists of clusters widely distributed over a network. It tries to reduce costs for start-up and communication by simultaneous function handles creation function and remote object mechanism. In addition, it tries to cope with heterogeneous, unstable, and dynamically varying grid environment by heart-beat monitoring function, timeout mechanism in creating function handles, and methods to specify server-dependent attributes. Using 6 distributed clusters, performance of Ninf-G2 was evaluated by running an atmospheric simulation program which is a typical task parallel application. Good performance was attained on a grid environment with more than 200 processors even in the case of applications having many small grained tasks.

Spiruchostatin A (1), isolated from a culture broth of Pseudomonas sp., has been shown to be a potent histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor. HDAC inhibitors can suppress the growth of human tumor xenografts, this natural product, therefore, is expected to be a promising candidate for novel molecular-targeted anticancer agents. We envisioned that 1 would be synthesized through twofold macrolactam/macrolactone cyclization of the fully elaborated acyclic disulfide 2. The key segments 3 and 4, required for the preparation of the advanced key intermediate 2, were initially synthesized, and the two segments were subsequently subjected to the critical cross S-S coupling reaction to produce the desired key intermediate 11 (synthetically equivalent to 2). Upon deprotection of the N-Boc and the methyl ester groups in 11, the crucial cyclization formation was achieved using PyBOP to provide the desired macrolactam 16, a potential key precursor for 1. Further investigations concerning the transformation of 16 to the target molecule 1 were also described.

The present study examined the anti-obesity effects of pine needle extract (PNE) in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes and <i>in vivo</i> studies. PNE treatment suppressed both glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase activity and expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) &gamma; in cultured 3T3-L1 adipocytes. To investigate the effect of PNE on obesity in rats fed high-fat diet, four types of diet, which included a normal diet (ND), high-fat diet (HFD), ND+PNE, and HFD+PNE diets, were fed to the rats <i>ad libitum</i> for 6 weeks. The PNE supplement significantly decreased body weight gain and visceral fat mass compared to the HFD group. The total cholesterol, TG, and leptin levels in the plasma were significantly reduced by PNE supplementation compared with those of the HFD group. Histological findings in liver tissue showed that PNE supplementation alleviated steatosis induced by HFD. In conclusion, PNE treatment suppressed differentiation of 3T-L1 adipocytes, in part by down-regulating expression of PPAP&gamma; mRNA, and reduced adipose tissue mass, hyperlipidemia, and hepatic steatosis in obese rats fed HFD. Therefore, pine needle water extract may be considered for use in therapy to control obesity.

テーマ辞典をもとにフレーズ開始の音程がアナクルーシスを形成するものを選び出し、これを音程、音長別にわけて分析した。その結果、音程で上行4度と1度、音長で1:2と1:1が双璧をなすアナクルーシスであることが明らかになった。(両者の組み合わせから実際には4つの典型的パターンが抽出される。)これを基に、典型的アフタクトの音程2種類と、そうでない音程1種類、これに典型的な音長2種類とそうでない音長1種類の3種類を組み合わせることによって合計9つのパターンを作り出した。これらのアナクルーシスは、そうでないパターンと演奏上どう区別されるだろうか。パターンの違いによる違いはどうか。さらに、音長間係の楽譜からの逸脱を示す一般的な演奏傾向との関係はどうか。本研究は、以上の一連の研究の途中報告である。

This article discusses the 2010-2013 supply restrictions on rare earths called the “rare-earths crisis,” and examines the strategies of sogo shosha, or Japanese general trading companies. In particular, we focus on three companies—Sojitz, Mitsubishi Corporation, and Toyota Tsusho—as study cases.China has dominated the world’s rare-earths supply, accounting for more than 90% of global production since the early twenty-first century. The Chinese government began restricting exports of rare earths by the late 2000s, introducing an export surcharge and export quota in 2006. Furthermore, following the 2010 Senkaku incident, it halted exports of. This caused a severe supply shock and a 10-times rise in international prices. In response, the Japanese government planned urgent countermeasures via such means as innovation for the development of substitutes, reduction in the use of rare earths, recycling from used products, and diversification of sources via development of alternative mines. However, no measure other than source diversification was likely to yield immediate results.Sogo shosha historically took a significant role in investing in overseas natural resources and importing the same to Japan, and have redefined natural resources as one of their core businesses based on the returns on risky assets. Several sogo shosha reacted to this crisis. However, the rate earth business is small as compared to other major resources such as iron ore, coal, and oil and gas, and accordingly, sogo shosha merged their rare-earths and rare-metals field units, and instead divided their operations into two units, one for commodity trading and another for customer-oriented activities, particularly for long-term procurement for the Japanese automobile industry. Sojitz committed to a huge production project for an Australian supplier with financial assistance from the Japanese government, while Mitsubishi Corporation was not willing to invest in green-field rare-earths mines. Toyota Tsusho moved to secure alternative sources for the Toyota Group.

On the basis of a literature search on classical Chinese herbal and medicinal books and recent Chinese medical and pharmaceutical journals, I selected several crude drugs which have been used for the treatment of alopecia, thermal burn, benign prostatic hyperplasia, tonics, and dandruff prevention. Testosterone 5α-reductase inhibitory activity of the selected crude drugs and other randomly selected crude drugs was assayed to find novel agents for treatment of androgenic alopecia. The ethanolic solutions of Schisandra chinensis BAlLLON (五味子), Spatholobus suberectus DUNN (鶏血藤), Polygonum bistorta L. (拳参), Lygodium japonicum (THUBN.) Sw. (海金砂), Psoralea corylifolia L. (補骨脂), Myrica rubra SIEB. et ZUCC. (揚梅皮), Cornus officinalis SIEB. et ZUCC. (山茱萸), and Paeonia suffruticosa ANDR. (牡丹皮) showed strong inhibition of the enzyme activity.

人間科学的研究の方法論的側面を再検討するプロジェクトの一環として、名古屋大学の広瀬幸雄教授によって作成された仮想世界ゲームが論じられた。2002年度に群馬大学でおこなわれた実施例の概略が報告され、最後に人間科学的研究における実験的手法の意義が、社会的リアリティという観点から議論された。As a part of our recent project on reconsidering methodological aspects of researches in human sciences, Simulated International Society (SIMINSOC), constructed by Prof. Yukio Hirose of Nagoya University, was discussed, while a case conducted at Gunma University in 2002 was reported briefly. Finally, the problems of laboratory experimentation of social phenomena were argued in the light of social reality.

In the last edition, I explained that we used the SN Ratio to show system functionabilities and dispersions of output characteristics in "Quality Engineering". ln this edition, I would like to explain how we should evaluate the functionabilities and the dispersions in various conditions. When people evaluate the characteristic dispersions, they make many samples repeatedly, and wait for random errors to occur. However, engineers who know Robust Design forcefully change the levels of noise(the causes of dispersion) and input signal to see how the output actually vary.

発達障害児に対する作業療法では,「楽しさ」「面白さ」を治療プログラムに織り込むことにより,対象児の持つ能力を最大限に引き出せるよう工夫することが重要である.平衡機能に関する評価・支援システムの開発では,楽しみながら適応反応を獲得するための電動ホーススウィング装置を開発した.目と手の協調性に対する評価・支援システムでは,従来の紙筆検査では得られなかった客観的データを得ると共に,楽しく課題に取り組めることが確認された.臨床では,作業療法に消極的であった児に対して,NEXTRAX™(ネクストラックス)で操作する障害児療育支援ソフトを使用することで作業療法への動機付けがなされた.これらの紹介を通して,作業療法の視点について解説する.
