Effect of self-talk on motor performance was investigated. High school and junior high school students (N=24) participated in the study. They performed 400 meter timing trials each week for two weeks, such that first week was the baseline trial, and second week was the intervention trial. After the first trial, participants were assigned to one of two groups based on their swimming times: self-talk group (positive self-statements) or control group (thought suppression). In each of two trials, the participants were instructed to swim as easily as possible. After completing each trial, they requested to fill out the questionnaire that asked about their thoughts and perceived exertion rate while swimming, as well as fatigue, anxiety, and depression after swimming. Results indicated no change in the perceived rating of exertion and fatigue among the groups between the two trials. However, the group assigned to self-talk swam significantly faster in the intervention, compared to the baseline trial. Moreover, depression score in the self-talk group decreased significantly after the intervention, in comparison to the baseline. These results show that positive self-statements influence mood and the emotional state, in addition to the physical state and its cognition. The findings of this study suggest the usefulness of using self-talk by participants who aim to improve movements and enhance their performance.

The purpose of this research is to demonstrate the influence of odor to physiological reaction when a subject’s experience is taken into consideration as a factor. Ten normal Japanese adult male (22.1 ± 1.1 years, mean ± SD) were enrolled. A mixture of spices including coriander, fenugreek, and cumin by the same ratio was used as the standard sample. Commercially available curry powder was used as the excellent sample. Three salivary biomarkers such as amylase, orexin, and β-endorphin were measured during baseline, inhalation and post-inhalation periods. Our results indicated that (i) change of the salivary orexin levels by inhalarion of spice was agreed with the result of subjective evaluation, (ii) the excellent sample showed more remarkable changes in physiology reaction than that of the standard sample. It was thought that a functional spice which it not only backs up delicacy, but have an effect which pulls out sensitivity may be designed.

The article attempts to streamline the numerous Open Innovation studies and thereby elucidate the concept of Open Innovation (and openness). Since the early 2000s, quite a few studies have explored a broad range of issues (e.g., business strategy, industrial structure, management practice) based on the "Open Innovation" perspective. Nevertheless the concept of Open Innovation has rapidly become rather elusive as a variety of studies, mostly of an empirical nature, have been conducted without a solid conceptual structure for Open Innovation. The article examines more than 140 academic articles and books relevant to Open Innovation. After outlining how the actions of firms and environmental factors co-developed toward openness, the article shows the environmental conditions for Open Innovation, proposes a typological framework streamlining Open Innovation strategies and practices, and reveals related issues to be explored. Finally the article suggests theoretical and managerial implications drawing on the literature survey.
