Karatani Kojin insists that Sakaguchi Ango's works and thoughts should be interpreted according to the dichotomy not between Leftism and Rightism, but between Enlightenment and Romanticism. This viewpoint is epoch making, because if interpreted either as Leftism or Rightism,as many former researchers did, Ango's thoughts lose their potential, which is much larger than many researchers have supposed. Karatani says that Ango grasped that in Western thought, rationality is based on some irrationality, and irrationality is based on rationality. With such deep insight, Ango criticized superficial social and political theories and moral or ethical thoughts in Japan, especially before and during the last war. Ango pointed out that all social or political systems and morality or ethics,whether they are just in thought or real,from the family system to Cosmopolitanism,are all 'automata' ,or 'karakuri' in Japanese, He also pointed out that human beings will necessarily create automata from the personal to the sociai level, and it is the 'reality of a human being',or, what Ango named 'furusato' in Japanese. Karatani calls Ango's thought his 'Radicalism',and in this respect, Karatani says,Ango is equal to great thinkers in the West such as Hobbers, Kant, and Marx,and in Ango's thought,he see the potential to dissolve nation states and to construct a world federation.Karatani's interpretation is a landmark in the study of Ango, and researchers should take account of, or not make light of, Ango's radicalism. I think,however,that Karatani's interpretation is not as radical as Ango's thought itself, but following Karatani's interpretation,we can comprehend Ango's thougyt more radically. I think that Karatani connects Ango's thought somewhat hastily with social or political thoughts, When Ango referred to the reality of a human being, he considered a human being as a person, not as a part of a social or political system. Ango declared that politics is 'a coarse web' and political thought can never grasp a person in the exact meaning, Ango thought that in the reality of human beings, a person is captured in 'a fine web',and this web is a kind of discourse as argued by M.Foucault. Ango also said that in the reality of a human being, a person should inevitably be moral or ethical. In other words, a person is moral or ethical before he constructs some moral or ethical discourse. I think that folllowing Ango's thought, we should not costruct some social, political, moral or ethical discourses, buy should examine whether such discourses are based on the reality of a human being. Ango donates us a kind of 'test' for such examination, and we can call it 'discourse for morality or ethics',not 'discourse of marality or ethics.'

Deaf or hard-of-hearing people need support services such as real-time captioning. It is fairly common for captionists to be unable to perform captioning services. In order to address this problem, we proposed a Mobile-type Remote-captioning System. The main characteristic of our system is to use two functions of one mobile phone (e.g. the iPhone 3G/3GS, Apple Computer, Inc.) at the same time. The two functions are to display the captions input by the captionists (data communications) and to call the captionists to transmit the speaker's speech to the captionists (telephone call). The purpose of our research was to make clear the differences with the existing system, and to discover the advantages and faults of our system. In this study, we investigated these issues using a questionnaire for captionists who had used our system. As a result, we found that our system is suitable for a situation in which the speaker and the deaf or hard-of-hearing person are communicating while walking together (e.g. excursions, plant tours), whether indoors or outdoors. In addition, it reduces the stress that can be caused to deaf or hard-of-hearing children by having adults (captionists) other than teachers in the classroom.

We investigated how automatic⁄controlled process affect output monitoring under the condition where action phrases are well learned previously and dual task is performed. In fixed sequence condition, the order of action phrases was same during input session, while in random sequence condition, the order of action phrases was different. It was revealed that the fixed sequence condition enables participants to remember action phrases more easily and faster than the random condition. However, the fixed sequence condition makes the response to &ldqup;I'm not sure” more than random sequence condition in output monitoring session. We concluded that action phrases were remembered automatically as a series of actions in the fixed sequence condition and load of cognition decreased. However decreasing load of cognition made output monitoring difficult. We further discussed the output monitoring error in the relation to human error in everyday life.

In the method of stochastic quantization proposed by Parisi and Wu, the Langevin equation is set by using an additional fictitious time. The results of the usual quantization are obtained by taking the infinite limit of the time. For a system with a special class of potential, however, it is also possible to formulate the stochastic quantization based on the Langevin equation associated with the ordinary time. Applying this method, we investigate the stochastic quantization of the open-ends Nambu-Goto string. It is shown that the effective action derived out of the Langevin equation of the string has the form of a supersymmetric string, though the fermionic degrees of freedom are ghost variables.

Classical theory of a relativistic string is formulated based on the parameter representation x_μ=x_μ(σ,τ) for the world strip swept by its motion. The necessity of the physically unam-biguous interpretation of this many-time formalism requires certain conditions. Invariance under the scale transformation of parameters is stressed. The physical meaning of τ is clarified. Besides the equation of motion and boundary condition which follow from the variational principle additional constrain t equations are needed to ensure a well-defined model without tachyonic solutions. The quantization of this classical theory is made in the usual way in the Heisenberg picture with respect to τ. Then by going over to the Schrodinger picture the parameter τ is automatically eliminated and we are left with a wave equation alone. Moreover this equation and the constraint equation are incorporated into a single "detailed wave equation", which was given previously as the fundamental equation of the quantum mechanics of a relativistic string. Case of external interaction is briefly treated.

A set of models of extended objects in space-time is studied using geometrical language. They are natural generalization of the relativistic point particle to extended objects in Minkowski space. The relativistic string model is one of the examples and its properties are studied in some detail. The time like oscillation mode, which gives rise to ghost state in quantum theory, is always suppressed by the geometrical construction in this approach.

A possible theory of an open membrane is proposed. The space-time coordinates, swept out by the membrane, are denoted as X^μ(σ^0,σ^1, σ^2) where σ^a are parameters. A simple Lagrangian which is invariant under the re-parametrization σ^0→σ^0'(σ), σ^1'=σ^1 and σ^2'=σ^2 is set up and the equations of motion and the boundary conditions are derived. After the gauge is fixed, they are solved in the case where the membrane rotates rigidly and the mass-spin relation is obtained which is not infinitely increasing.

In this and succeeding papers we reconstruct the theory of relativistic string, taken as a model of hadrons, in a general and unifying framework. In this paper the classical foundation of the "realistic" string theory is clarified. The theory is derived from the action integral which is invariant under "partial general transformation" on the parameters (σ,τ) for the world sheet traced by a motion of the string, and the fundamental equations are originally covariant under this group. Then by choosing a suitable gauge we obtain Lorentz-covariant formalism associated with constraints. We analyze its characteristics and obtain solutions. Taking another gauge we get the equivalent "Lorentz non-cavariant formalism" free from constraint. This directly exhibits the physical meaning of the theory and also leads to its standard Hamiltonian formalism. Several conservation laws characteristic to our string theory are given.

The theory of detailed wave equation (DWE), which represents relativistic quantum dynamics of an extended system with external interaction for a specific value of Regge intercept, avoiding ghost states and leading to dual amplitude, is further developed in several respects. The original formulation (the σ-formalism) for the string model is transcribed into a few equivalent formalisms. In the λ-formalism the invariance of DWE against the "Hilbert transform" becomes manifest. Finite "gauge transformations", under which the theory is invariant, are explicitly obtained for the consideration of their structural meaning. The original string model is generalized to the hybrid model, where each element constituting the string is endowed with internal "Fermi oscillator variables", in the framework of DWE, which now fixes the Regge intercept at the value lower than the original one by 1/2 unit or its multiples. In particular the hybrid model with vector Fermi variables, which implies "double-string" consisting of Dirac-like elements, is treated, where our vector Fermi variables differ from those in similar models by other authors with respect to their reality and Lorentz properties and are free from the introduction of additional indefinite metric. Moreover our theory is invariant under space reflection.

Euler-Lagrange equations of a relativistic massive string are analysed from the stand-point of non-linear wave propagation theory. Complete exceptionality is shown to hold, while strict exceptionality (usual in non-linear physical theories) appears only for non-vanishing value of the masses at the ends, when time-like or light-like gauge specification is employed.

Theory of "geometric" string, recently employed as a model of hadrons, is represented in a form covariant under general transformation of parameters ("coordinates") by the aid of tensor analysis. It is shown that this approach is essentially simple and transparent and works to clarify subtle points in the relativistic kinematics and mechanics of the geometric string. The method is applied to the treatment of conformal invariance, "static solutions" and single-time formalism. Relativistic string with intrinsic rotational degrees is presented, also on the basis of the general-covariant approach. This new model allows a charge distribution along the string. Analogy of the "general-covariant" string theory to general relativity as well as its distinction therefrom is explained.

Some aspects of the theory of relativistic string in its early period of formation and development are examined, such as the analogy between multilocal theory and string theory, the motivation and implication of the concept of `detailed wave equation', distinction between geometric and massive strings, etc. Next it is shown that a multilocal system consisting of N points organizes itself into a one-dimensional arrangement, rather than into a 3-dimensionally extended structure, if the internal forces obey a certain conspicuous rule. This model exhibits how the string theory is fabricated out of the relativistic theory of a discrete structure in the limit N →∞.
