This article addresses the misunderstandings and problems that can be caused by the use of similar Chinese characters standing for such things as positional titles, and the names of organizational subdivisions. The countries involved were Japan, Korea China and Taiwan. We attempt to compare these academic terms from the four countries by dividing them into three sub-groups: Terms related with classes and administration; terms related with academic department structure and curriculum; and terms between related with status and position. International academic exchanges make it necessary that the discrepancies in terminology be mapped. We suggest further study in this direction. This article discusses the current situation, including the difficulties facing international academic exchanges from the point of view of Inje University, a sister university of Yamagata University. Even though it is a long process to become a sister university, there are additional practical problems in performing the administrative work of exchanging students. For example, the transfer of credits or grades between universities is made difficult by the differences in academic terms. It also requires the adoption of new guidelines in considering each university’ s grading policies. In addition, this article examines the programs and activities related to international student exchanges and reports on the instruction of student theatrical activities and speech contests performed in the Japanese language. We conclude that it is necessary to collect practical case studies and analyze the causes of misunderstandings in order to determine proper solutions and better facilitate international relations. 兵庫県川西市に分布する超丹波帯猪名川コンプレックスから蛇紋岩礫を多く含む礫岩を発見した.この礫岩の礫種は珪長質火山岩類,蛇紋岩,片岩を主体とし,花崗岩,玄武岩,チャートや泥岩などの堆積岩が伴われるため,礫岩の供給源は付加複合体や堆積岩,変成岩,花崗岩などの基盤岩が露出し,その上を火山岩類が覆う島弧または陸弧であると想定される.蛇紋岩礫中のクロムスピネルの形状は,大江山オフィオライトのかんらん岩に特徴的ないわゆる「踊るスピネル」であり,クロムスピネルの化学組成(Cr#50-51およびCr#42)も大江山オフィオライトのものに類似する.そのため,これらの蛇紋岩礫は大江山オフィオライトを起源とすることが考えられる.猪名川コンプレックスの砕屑岩はペルム紀新世の“舞鶴(夜久野)島弧”前縁の海溝で形成されたとみなされ,今回の発見は古生代前期の大江山オフィオライトがペルム紀新世にこの島弧の前弧域に露出していたことを示唆する.

Pollen tetrads of 36 species belonging to 26 genera of Japanese Orchids were observed in details. The results are as follows : 1) Confirmation of types of the pollen tetrads and morphological variation in each type of them ; The arrangement of the four young pollens in the tetrads is variable within 36 species observed, although they could be classified into six types such as tetrahedral, square, decussate, rhomboidal, T-shaped and linear ones. Throughout the species observed the pollens constituting a tetrad were intact, and aberrantly large or small ones in the aberrant tetrads were not recognized. 2) Estimation of mixing ratios in each type of the pollen tetrads ; All six types of the pollen tetrads were recognized in 30 among 36 species observed. The ratios in each type of the pollen tetrads are shown in Table 1. The decussate tetrads show the highest ratio, about 50% throughout the species except Habenaria radiata and Goodyera maximowicziana. Values of the ratios of each type decreased from the decussate tetrads in sequence of rhomboidal, tetrahedral, square, T-shaped and linear ones. Detailed observation on the ratios among the pollen tetrads in each type of Calanthe discolor showed that the ratios were similar through five individuals collected from three different localities ( Table 2). In Goodyera maximowicziana, higher ratios of the T-shaped tetrads and linear ones were observed in extremely slender basal part of the pollinium than those of T-shaped and linear ones of the other part of the pollinium. 3) Ontogenetical observation on each type of the pollen tetrads ; All tetrads observed were produced by simultaneous membrane formation. The course of the tetrad formation was proceeded in the pollen mother cells which were gathered into parenchymatously compact mass. The courses of the pollen tetrad formation of each type are schematically shown in Fig. 1 with photographs in Figs. 2 and 3. It seems that different types of the pollen tetrads are caused by the different forms of the pollen mother cells and by the difference of the direction of the two axes of the second nuclear divisions. It is concluded that the species in the Orchidaceae observed have several types of pollen tetrads within a single pollinium which all develop normally and that the types of pollen tetrads in this family would be determined by the direction of axis of cell division and the forms of pollen mother cells. The forms may be correlated to those of the pollinia and to the parenchymatously compact gathering of the pollen mother cells throughout the course of the tetrad formation.

In April 1559 the long series of Habsburg-Valois wars was brought to an end in the peace treaty of Cateau-Cambrésis. For the next few decades, western European international relations were dominated by civil warsin France and the Habsburg Netherlands. This article examines how political and religious factors led to theoutbreak of a series of religious civil wars in France, commonly known as the French Wars of Religion.The first chapter describes the religious policies of Francis I and Henry II and the growth of Protestantismin France under their reign. Despite mounting persecution after the mid-1530s, Protestantism spread to manyparts of France especially after the mid-1550s. Henry II was particularly alarmed by the spread of Calvinismamong the nobility. At the end of the war in 1559, Henry was determined to give more attention to the religiousproblem in France. Instead, his premature death in July 1559 put the country into political and religiousturmoil.The second chapter examines events leading to the outbreak of the first religious war in April 1562. AfterHenry's death, the religious tension was exacerbated by a power struggle among noble families – such as theGuises, the militant defenders of the Catholic faith, and the Bourbons, who were sympathetic to the Protestantcause – to dominate Henry's young sons, Francis II( 1559-60) and Charles IX( 1560-74). Their mother,Catherine de Medici, tried hard to maintain a religious peace in France by means of a compromise betweenthe two faiths, but in vain. The' massacre of Vassy' in March 1562 provoked a Huguenot army to capture Orléans.The third chapter provides a brief description of the war itself and explains how the absence of a largestanding army and the crown's inability to fund military efforts for any protracted period of time prevented itfrom defeating the Huguenots.To sum up, this article shows that the war defies a simple explanation and was caused by various politicaland religious factors including the untimely death of Henry II, the power struggle among noble factions, thedesire of many noblemen to display their military virtue, the belief of many Catholics that Protestantism wasa serious threat to the peace and stability of their community, and the impossibility of achieving doctrinal compromise.
