Experimental data of liquid and vapor flows of R 113 for Re=5000〜400000 were obtained for both a plain tube and snugly fitted twisted tape insert tubes. No evidence of tape fin effects was found in the heat transfer characteristics of a stainless steel tape insert when compared to a Teflon tape insert. For twist ratios γ = 5.9, 10.0 and 16.0, improvements in heat transfer of up to 35% were observed. Based on a simple consideration of the heat transfer enhancement mechanisms of twisted tape inserts, a Dittus and Boelter-type correlation for a plain tube was modified to include twisted tape effects. For such a case, use of available plain-tube data was recommended to maximize the accuracy of the proposed correlation. The trade-off between pressure loss and heat transfer enhancement was considered before determining the overall desirability of twisted tape inserts.

微細な配向パターンを有する液晶セルの駆動電圧特性および応答特性を実験およびコンピュータシミュレーションにより詳細に評価し,駆動電圧および応答特性の改善効果について考察した。その結果,しきい電圧は配向の歪みの増加とともに減少する傾向が明らかとなり,配向パターンの周期のような構造的な因子によってしきい電圧が制御できることが確認された。さらに,微細なパターン配向は応答特性の改善にも寄与し,応答時間および回復時間がそれぞれ70%および50%改善されることが明らかとなった。

患者は慢性関節リウマチのため少量のプレドニゾロンとサラゾスルファピリジンを長期内服中の79歳の女性である。右大腿骨骨折に対する骨接合術のため入院中であったが,術後13日目に突然の腹痛が出現した。腹部全体に腹膜刺激症状を認め,腹部CTにて腹腔内に遊離ガスと液体貯留を認めたため消化管穿孔に伴う汎発性腹膜炎が疑われた。しかし同時に内部にガス産生を伴う腫大した子宮を認めたため経膣的ドレナージを施行すると大量の排膿があり,子宮留膿腫の穿孔に伴う汎発性腹膜炎の診断にて開腹手術となった。子宮底に穿孔部位を認め,子宮全摘術および両側付属器切除術を施行し,術後エンドトキシン吸着療法を含めた集学的治療により軽快した。子宮留膿腫は高齢女性にみられる予後良好の慢性疾患である。しかし稀に腹腔内に穿孔し汎発性腹膜炎の原因となり,致死的な疾患となり得ることが報告されている。腹腔内の遊離ガスと液体貯留を呈することが多いため,消化管穿孔の診断のもと開腹手術となり術中に診断されることが多く,術前診断率が低いことが指摘されている。本症例はステロイドと免疫抑制薬を長期併用する慢性関節リウマチ患者に発症した穿孔例であるが,急性腹症として発症する前に明らかな下腹部痛,異常帯下などは認めなかった。腹部CTにて子宮留膿腫の穿孔を疑ったことが,迅速な婦人科紹介,経膣的ドレナージ,適切な術式選択につながり救命できたものと考えられた。一般的に腹腔内の遊離ガスと液体貯留を伴う急性腹症の原因は消化管穿孔と考えられるが,高齢女性においては稀に子宮留膿腫の穿孔があることを救急医は認識しておくべきである。

近年のPCの急激なパフォーマンスの向上により、ユーザがクライアントとして用いてきたマシンをサーバーとしても利用できるようになっている。我々は、このようなホモジニアスな環境を想定して、エンドユーザーがホームページのように手軽に立ちあげられる仮想空間を作成し、他ユーザーの仮想空間と相互に行き来できる共同仮想空間の実現を、目指している。エンドユーザが独自に作成する仮想空間は、膨大なコンテンツを擁するわけではないため、他の仮想空間と連結可能になることは大きな意味を持つ。現状実現されている仮想空間でも、URLでVRMLファイルを指定し、次々に空間を提示できる。しかし、アバタやオブジェクトを持って他空間との間を行き来する事はできない。また、大規模サーバーによるマッピングによって、仮想空間の連結をサポートするものもあるが、独自に作成されたものを任意に連結するには至らない。そのため、ユーザーが空間をまたがって協調作業する環境には不十分であると考えられる。

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is one of the major 'gate-keeping' tests required for entry by students from overseas into universities in the UK, Australia. New Zealand and Canada. This paper reports on a qualitative investigation into the response validity of the IELTS writing subtest. The aim of the study was to identify factors in the assessment context which might influence candidates' achievement in writing their responses. The first part of the study looks at the readability of selected test prompts and identifies discourse and pragmatic features which may affect candidates' interpretation of the prompts. The second part of the investigation describes and analyses test taking behaviours of intending test candidates on the writing subtest. The analysis in this section is based on researchers' observation of subjects, on verbal protocols recorded as subjects wrote responses, and on post-test interview data recorded with the same subjects. The analysis for readability suggests that candidates' interpretation of the test prompts is influenced by factors such as the purpose described for the tasks and the lexico-grammar of the tasks. The analysis of the test-taking behaviours of subjects points to socio-cultural influences on candidates' demonstration of their writing ability. The investigation suggests the usefulness of qualitative procedures such as verbal protocols for exploring response validity, and has implications both for item writers and for teachers preparing candidates for IELTS examinations.

羽根車がガラス棒上を転がって動く型の羽根車入りクルックス管の放電中に,それを傾けることにより羽根が回らないように釣り合わせる.このときの管の傾きから羽根が受けている力の大きさを計算したところ,電子の衝撃力として計算した値の40〜300倍も大きいことがわかった.一力で羽根車がうける力は消費電力によってほぼ決まることがわかり,軸が鉛直になったクルックス管を用いて電子線による回転力と電球の光による回転力をつり合わせ,そのときの光の仕事率が電子線の仕事率に近いことを確かめることができた.これは羽根車の回転力の大部分がラジオメーター効果によることを示すが,消費電力と回転力の関係の検討からラジオメター効果の他に静電気力のようなものが働いているかもしれないという結論になった.
