The purpose of this paper is to analyze how the assessment of the quality of learning in higher education is conducted through performance assessment and to identify what conflicts arise between two paradigms. First, to depict the structure of the arguments of learning assessment we set two axes, one of which was the axis of direct measures vs. indirect measures; the other was the axis of psychometrics paradigm vs. alternative assessment paradigm. Next, we observed two trends in present performance assessment movements which reflect two contrastive paradigms, even though performance assessment was originally proposed under the alternative assessment paradigm. One trend is to construct an objective standardized test of performance assessment type, a representative example being the Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA) adopted by the OECD's Assessment of Higher Education Learning Outcomes (AHELO). The other trend is to collaboratively develop performance assessments advanced by Alverno College and the Valid Assessment of Learning in Undergraduate Education (VALUE) Project of the American Association of Colleges & Universities (AAC&U). Lastly, we produced the contrast between limited academic learning and the whole student engagement as the third axis of learning assessment arguments. We can analyze the types of present learning assessment activities along these three axes.

This study was performed to investigate the relationships of individual skills and narrative between former and future generations by Denshosha especially focusing on Legitimate Peripheral Participation (LPP). For this purpose, this study investigated how a master of a traditional performing art interprets their skills in the relationship among generations from narratives of the master. Two steps were taken in approaching an individual situated among generations. First, we clarified what the master teaches his pupil. Then, we analyzed the narratives to determine the master's interpretation. In the process of watching and interviewing, a master of a traditional performing art presented not only his experience of developing skills and his interpretation of the meaning of skills but also his way of handing skills on to the next generation. The results are shown in a matrix of three categories of skills and three phases of narratives. The details appeared in the matrix were interpreted by considering "gaps between generations" and "manners for changing." Denshosha would not only bring skills between generations but also inherit manners or values by interpreting the combinations of individual skills.

本稿は、「ソーシャルメディア衛星開発プロジェクトSOMESAT」を対象としたフィールドワークに基づく、初音ミクと宇宙開発の「草の根な関係」についての論考である。文化人類学者の小田(2010 p.46)は次のように言う。「どのエスノグラフィーも、特定のエスノグラファーが、特定の時期の、特定のフィールドで調査をし、特定の読者層に対して書いていったものです。そこには常に誤解、誇張、歪曲の可能性がつきまといます」。また、社会学者の佐藤(2006 p.174)は次のように言う。「対象者のスポークスマンによるものとも思えるような民族史を発表するフィールドワーカーもいます」。本稿は、対象者にとっての「正史」ではない。著者から見た「唯一の正しい」対象像を提示するものでもない。むしろ、対象を取り巻く文脈や解釈の多様性を示したい。本稿では、2章で一見無関係な「初音ミク」と「宇宙開発」、3章でこの2つが結び付いて生まれたSOMESATをそれぞれ概説する。4章では、SOMESATを取り巻く社会状況を見ていくことで、「初音ミク」と「宇宙開発」を結び付けた条件を探る。5章では、SOMESATへの多様な解釈や参加をもたらす、草の根的文脈の多様性と多重性を見る。6章では、初音ミクが有する宇宙へ飛翔するキャラクター的身体について論じる。7章では、まとめと本稿が今後の草の根文化の研究とデザインに貢献する点について述べる。

In 1956, American meteorologist Norman Phillips published an article entitled "The General Circulation of the Atmosphere: A Numerical Experiment," which is considered a landmark in the history of meteorology as well as in that of computer simulation. In this paper, we present Phillips's numerical experiment as a natural development of a dishpan experiment―a laboratory experiment with rotating fluid. Both kinds of experiments are 'model experiments,' and we can regard their models as a tool for understanding general circulation. In the history of meteorology, computer simulation emerged as a kind of experiment.

本稿の目的は、明治初期の国家的プロジェクトとして翻訳出版された文部省『百科全書』(Chambers’s Information for the People のほぼ全訳)における「宗教」に関するテクスト群をそのコンテクストに定位して、翻訳研究の視角から読解することにある。そもそもreligion はどのように訳出されていたのか。「religion = 宗教」という翻訳等価の成立過程は、明治政府が欲望した近代国家体制といかに切り結ぶのか。近代日本の「宗教」をめぐる記憶を辿りながら、religion を翻訳する行為によって誕生した「宗教」が引き受けた二面性と、この翻訳語が同時に非「宗教」という領域を創出した帰結を翻訳テクストに問い直し、その根源に潜む翻訳語の宿命を近代日本語の出来事として探究する。
