データセンタやクラスタ環境で仮想化技術の利用が広がっている.こうした環境では,仮想マシン (VM) を稼働させたまま異なるホスト間で移動する,VM Live Migration という技術を用いることができる.VM を退避したうえでの物理マシンのメンテナンスや,高負荷な VM を移送させて負荷分散が容易になるメリットがある.しかし,現在広く用いられている Pre-copy 方式は,メモリの全ページを転送し,変更の生じたページを逐次再送するため,VM の移送に時間がかかってしまう.また,DBMS を稼働させている VM の移送では事態が深刻化する.DBMS は大容量のデータをキャッシュし,トランザクションによるページの書き換えがあるため,ページの再送が頻発してしまう.本研究では DBMS のキャッシュのページ転送を削減し,仮想マシン移送を高速化させる手法を提案する.提案手法は DBMS のキャッシュのページ転送を省略し,共有ストレージから復元することでページ転送量を減らす.提案手法を Xen 4.4.2,Linux 3.18.20,MySQL 5.6.26 に対して実装した.読み取り専用なワークロードを実行する DBMS を稼働させている VM を移送したところ,最大で約 20%の総移送時間を削減できた.

Gold placer was discovered at Nonodake Hill in the mid-eighth century, making it the site of the earliest gold diggings in Japan. Watanabe (1935) was the first geologist to discuss the source of the placer gold, suggesting that it was derived from a Tertiary conglomerate containing rounded fragments of vein quartz, and that the primary source was pre-Tertiary gold veins in the Kitakami Mountains. Onoda (1942) agreed with Watanabe’s view. However, Yagyu (1953) suggested that the placer gold was derived from Tertiary gold veins on the northern side of Nonodake Hill. Taguchi and Ozaki (1994) undertook chemical analyses of particles of placer gold using a scanning electron microscope with an X-ray microanalyzer. Their results support Watanabe’s view on the primary source of the placer gold.

近世初頭に日本で始まった活字印刷(古活字版)の起源は、朝鮮活字版にあるとする説と、キリシタン版にあるとする説が対立している。近年ではキリシタン版起源説が有力になりつつあるが、その根拠には疑問とすべき点が多々ある。本研究では、韓国の活字版研究の最新の成果を踏まえ、朝鮮活字版から日本の古活字版への連続性を究明し、日本の古活字版の起源が朝鮮活字版にあることを明らかにした。

Background: Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is the most underdiagnosed, underestimated and undertreated of the atherosclerotic vascular diseases despite its poor prognosis. There may be racial or contextual differences in the Asia-Pacific region as to epidemiology, availability of diagnostic and therapeutic modalities, and even patient treatment response. The Asian Pacific Society of Atherosclerosis and Vascular Diseases (APSAVD) thus coordinated the development of an Asia-Pacific Consensus Statement (APCS) on the Management of PAD. Objectives: The APSAVD aimed to accomplish the following: 1) determine the applicability of the 2016 AHA/ACC guidelines on the Management of Patients with Lower Extremity Peripheral Artery Disease to the Asia-Pacific region; 2) review Asia-Pacific literature; and 3) increase the awareness of PAD. Methodology: A Steering Committee was organized to oversee development of the APCS, appoint a Technical Working Group (TWG) and Consensus Panel (CP). The TWG appraised the relevance of the 2016 AHA/ACC PAD Guideline and proposed recommendations which were reviewed by the CP using a modified Delphi technique. Results: A total of 91 recommendations were generated covering history and physical examination, diagnosis, and treatment of PAD—3 new recommendations, 31 adaptations and 57 adopted statements. This Asia-Pacific Consensus Statement on the Management of PAD constitutes the first for the Asia-Pacific Region. It is intended for use by health practitioners involved in preventing, diagnosing and treating patients with PAD and ultimately the patients and their families themselves.

Although public interest on safety standards is increasing, the evidence and protocols associated with the standards are not known well to the public and even experts. Discussing the evidence of standards is essential for risk communication, and interdisciplinary and systematical understanding on how to establish standards are also beneficial for considering the set-up of new standards. In this article, on the basis of examples in environmental science, industrial health and safety, and radiological protection, I overview and systemize the establishment of the standards from the perspectives of three principles of risk management: 1) “zero-risk-like” standards, 2) “acceptable-risk-based” standards, and 3) “cost-balanced” standards. In this view, I point out the differences in uncertainty factors or acceptable-risk levels among individual standards and demonstrate the role of the “as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA)” concept. Then, on the basis of the problem on lack of environmental standards in nonstationary states such as disasters, I summarize elements necessary for establishing the standards. As perspectives for further study, I suggest the needs for risk assessment of chemicals having a threshold, full considerations of risk trade-offs and ethical aspects, and applications of processes to the establishment of standards through stakeholder consensus.

Objective: Detection of acute arterial occlusion in an anomalous middle cerebral artery (MCA) is challenging in an emergency setting because of its rarity.Case Presentation: We report an 81-year-old woman who presented with acute occlusion of a duplicated middle cerebral artery (DMCA). Although the absence of the superior trunk of the left MCA was identified on preoperative imaging, initial angiography showed no typical sign of the occluded vessel. Repeated angiography eventually revealed retrograde arterial flow parallel to the other visible MCA trunk, which raised the possibility of a DMCA. The occlusion occurred at the origin of the DMCA originating from the internal carotid artery terminus, which obscured its presence. Mechanical thrombectomy was performed and achieved complete recanalization. The DMCA had two trunks of approximately equal size. The patient completely recovered within 90 days.Conclusion: Comprehensive knowledge of cerebrovascular anomalies is essential to identify the occluded branch faster and accurately and to avoid thrombectomy-related complications in endovascular recanalization therapy. Relevant DMCA anatomy and tips for identifying an occluded DMCA are discussed.

統合失調症は約100人に1人が発症する比較的頻度の高い精神疾患である.幻覚・妄想などの特徴的な症状に加えて,意欲が低下し感情が鈍麻する,認知機能が障害されるなどの症状があり,社会生活に支障が出ることが多い.統合失調症の病因・病態には,複数の遺伝的要因と環境要因の関与が考えられているが,分子メカニズムにはいまだ不明な部分が多い.近年,統合失調症の病因・病態に酸化ストレス(カルボニルストレス)や小胞体ストレスの関与が示唆さており,それらストレスによるタンパク質の「質」の低下(凝集化などによる機能低下)が注目されようになった.本稿では,統合失調症の基礎知識から研究方法について紹介したのち,細胞内ストレスに注目して,統合失調症で見られるタンパク質の「質」の変化について概説する.

The virtual keyboard in the VR space is characterized by the user can place the keyboard at any position and angle in the air. The user’s posture changes as the position and angle of the virtual keyboard change. We conducted an experiment to investigate the effects of the position and angle of the virtual keyboard on text entry. We found that the position of the virtual keyboard affected the workload by analyzing the experimental data for each participant in the experiment. In this paper, we analyzed the experimental data for each entry phrase. The results show that the entry speed and usability may be improved by tilting the keyboard toward the back from the user’s point of view. Furthermore, since the fatigue of the arms was larger than the fatigue of the neck, the fatigue could be minimized by designing VR applications so as to place the user’s fingers at a lower position than the user’s eye level.
