We investigated the effects of a special breathing technique, the “Breathing Retraining technique,” on performance in emergency situations. Participants were divided into three groups: breathing method group, visual task group, and the control group. Participants in the breathing method group performed the breathing retraining technique; those in the visual task group performed a simple visual task, whereas the control group performed any task, before the main task. The main task was the water-pipe game, in which participants clicked a computer mouse in various situations to complete the game using the minimum number of clicks. Results indicated that the breathing method group accomplished the most difficult main tasks faster and more efficiently than the other groups in simulated emergency situations. These results suggest that people can work comparatively fast and efficiently, even in emergency situations, by practicing the breathing retraining technique in advance. Additionally, there were no significant differences between the visual task group and the control group. This result indicates that it is not important that putting merely interval, but practicing the right breathing method improves behavior in emergencies.

Many previous studies have reported that static stretching (SS) may decrease muscle stiffness and compromise muscles’ ability to produce maximal strength. However, the effects of SS at different repetition durations and numbers within a constant total time remain unclear. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine whether SS for a constant total time (2 min) with different repetition durations and numbers (e.g., 60 s × 2 times, 30 s × 4 times, and 10 s × 12 times) produces different changes in muscle stiffness and strength. Fifteen healthy males (mean age: 23.3 ± 1.0 years) participated in this study. Muscle stiffness was measured during passive ankle dorsiflexion using dynamometer and ultrasonography. In addition, muscle strength of the plantar flexors was measured using a dynamometer at 0° of plantarflexion with the hip and knee joints fully extended. Muscle stiffness and strength were measured before and immediately after SS. Each experimental protocol was conducted in random order with at least a 1-week interval but no longer than a 2-week interval between testing sessions. The results showed that there were no significant interaction effects on muscle stiffness and strength. However, in all experimental protocols, muscle stiffness and strength immediately decreased after SS. In conclusion, SS for a constant total of 2 min decreases muscle stiffness and strength regardless of repetition durations and numbers of each individual SS.

この11月上旬、東京地下鉄(東京メトロ)の千代田線に新型車両がお目見えする。「1万6000系」と名づけられたその車両の最大の特徴は、車両に「PMSM(永久磁石同期電動機)」という新型の電動機を採用したことだ。 従来は、IM(誘導電動機)と呼ばれる電動機で、内部のローターに鉄の棒が入った電磁石を使用していた。ローターを回すには磁力による「磁界」が必要になる。

小規模サイレージ発酵試験法を用い, サイレージ発酵がヨーネ菌(Mycobacterium avium sub sp. paratuberculosis)の活性に及ぼす影響について検討した。滅菌生理食塩水で水分80%(v/w)に調整した滅菌ルーサン粉末とヨーネ菌懸濁液を滴下した濾紙を入れたパウチサイロに, 乳酸菌またはギ酸を添加剤として加えて調製した。5℃で14日間貯蔵したサイレージではpHが高く, 乳酸含量が低く, 乳酸発酵は進行しなかった。また, サイレージ中のヨーネ菌は高い菌数レベルで検出された。一方, 30℃と37℃で貯蔵したサイレージではpHが低く, 乳酸含量が高い良質なものであり, サイレージ中のヨーネ菌は死滅して検出されなかった。ギ酸, 乳酸, 酢酸, プロピオン酸および酪酸に対するヨーネ菌の耐性はそれぞれ0.05, 0.10, 0.05, 0.10 および0.30%(v/w)以下であり, 0.50%有機酸溶液に7日間浸潰したヨーネ菌は菌体の変形が観察された。しかし, 有機酸の添加液を30%(v/w)のNaOHでp日6.5に調整した場合, 有機酸の濃度に関わらずヨーネ菌は生残した。以上の結果, サイレージ発酵産物が効果的にヨーネ菌の生育を抑制するため, ヨーネ菌に汚染された良質発酵サイレージはヨーネ病の感染源にならないが, pHが高く, 乳酸含量が低い劣質発酵サイレージや低水分サイレージ中のヨーネ菌はヨーネ病の感染源になる可能性が示唆された。

本研究は健常な女子大学生を対象とし、乳酸発酵野菜入り野菜・果実混合飲料の摂取による排便と皮膚水分への影響を明らかにすることを目的とした。インフォームドコンセントの得られた健常な女子大学生53名(19~22歳)を対象とし、非摂取期間2週間(観察期)、試験飲料(1缶190g/日)摂取期間2週間(飲用期)の合計4週間、排便状況、食事内容、排便に影響を及ぼす可能性がある特記事項について毎日記録を行った。Corneometreによる皮膚水分量の測定と食物摂取頻度調査を観察期、飲用期にそれぞれ1回ずつ行った。飲用期終了後には事後アンケート調査を行い、自覚症状を評価した。被験者53名のうち2名を解析除外者とし、51名を解析した結果、飲用期では観察期と比較して、排便回数(13.5±4.5から14.4±5.0)と排便量(15.7±6.9から17.3±8.0)が有意に増加した。また、本飲料摂取後では「排便後に爽快感が得られる」との回答が増加し、「形の良い便が毎日出るようになった」、「便が柔らかくなったのが実感できた」などの便通改善効果が得られた。皮膚水分量(49.0±9.67から56.6±9.73)も有意に増加した。食事調査では、観察期、飲用期で試験食品摂取分を除いた場合では栄養価等に差が見られなかった。以上の結果より、乳酸発酵野菜入り野菜・果実混合飲料の摂取が、排便や皮膚水分の改善に役立つことが示された。

Leaf variegation has long been known as a recessive genetic trait in higher plants. Unlike albino mutants, leaf-variegated mutants are non-lethal and thus enable us to study a novel mechanism of plastid development and maintenance. Variegation results from a defect that makes chloroplast development unstable, since at least part of the tissues gives rise to normal chloroplasts. Despite the fact that leaf-variegated mutants have contributed to the findings of maternal inheritance or have been used as genetic markers, these mutations and the responsible loci have been poorly understood at the molecular level. A comprehensive study of the leaf-variegated mutants is possible in Arabidopsis, since such mutants have been known and the cloning can be at relative ease as a model plant. Here I summarize recent progress on characterization of the Arabidopsis leaf-variegated mutants. Detailed analysis of the responsible loci revealed that variegation is caused by a defect in various metabolic pathways related to organelle functions. Thus, studies on these genes provide us with novel redundant mechanisms by which heteroplasmic organelles such as plastids and mitochondria can survive from an environmental stress.

This paper tries to analyse that dealed with some accounts depicted about Radheya or Karna from Mahabharata. Its experiment is very important prosess to investigate the mainly theme of Karnabhara, a Sanskrit drama by Bhasa for us. As a result, there is depicted a brave man Radheya in our Epic. Exactly sometime he came across so tragic affair. But the writer of our Epic answers in the affirmative whole things that were acted by him. So perhaps there is an element of the brave, the theme of our Drama.

In A. D.1750 two Komusous visited Shinzaburou SAGAWA at Shinkage School in Sendai Clan and played several matches against the Sagawa's disciple. Shinzaburou SAGAWA left a detailed note of the occurence, namely, Ikkan Seizan Sagawa-sensei Shiai Shimatsu.Three written copies of it in the possession of the Saito-houonkai Natural History Museum and the Miyagi Prefectural Library have been analyzed by the present author.The purpose of this study is fourfold:(1) To clarify who two Komusous called one of them Ikkan and another of them Seizan were.(2) To clarify the purpose for which they went on a Knight-Errantry Tour in A. D.1750.(3) To clarify what kinds of samurai there were in the Sagawa's discple.(4) To clarify how they played the matches and what kinds of protector they played with. Briefly, the main conclusions were as follows:(1) Ikkan's name was Gonpachiro HARADA and Seizan's Hannojou NAKAGAWA. Both of them were the samurais of the middle rank in Kameyama clan.(2) They went on a Knight-Errantry Tour for the purpose of learning practical Bujutsu because, at that time, the educational system of Bujutsu was defective in Kameyama clan and many riots of the peasants were got up everywhere in Japan.(3) Half the number of the Sagawa's disciple were the samurais of vassal's vassales and of the lowest rank in Sendai clan.(4) The matches of Sagawa-Shinkage School was played with Fukuroshinai (a kind of bamboo sword) and “Menpou Tebukuro” (the protector of the face and the forearm), but these protectors had no conection with the parts that the players striked on. They striked on Kobushi (the fist) or Wakitsubo (the armpit).
