Philosopher of religion Yanagi Muneyoshi (1889-1961), born in the Meiji period and active throughout the Taisho and Showa periods, propagated a unique view of religion known as the "religion of aesthetics" (bi no shukyo). At the beginning of his career, Yanagi studied western culture through his participation in the "White Birch" (Shirakaba) literary group. He later turned his attention to eastern culture and formed his own thoughts on religion in the course of founding the "Folk Art Movement" (mingei undo). His activities at this time encompassed a wide spectrum, ranging from a quest for "pure" religious truth to the study of art. Yanagi embraced both religion and art at once, and stated that they were in fact originally "not two" (funi], but rather one and the same. When Yanagi became interested in eastern culture he also encountered Korean folk culture for the first time. Strongly impressed by the beauty of items for daily use, created by simple Korean people who did not personalize their works by imprinting their names upon them, he began to advocate a theory of "folk art." Previous studies of Yanagi have been undertaken from the three separate disciplinary viewpoints of folk art, Korean culture, and religious studies. However, for Yanagi himself, these three aspects remained inseparable throughout his entire life. This article attempts to keep his perspective in mind. It is in the interest of maintaining this inclusive perspective that I focus on Yanagi's early religious thought, from the years 1910 to 1924, while focusing initially on his activities in the Shirakaba group and his relationship with Korea. It was during these years that he chose the career of a philosopher of religion, began the search for a universal concept of religion which would fuse eastern and western ideas, and finally created a theory of religion and art which considered both as an indivisible entity. His initial encounter with the Korean people also falls into this period. Investigation of this stage of Yanagi's life will, I believe, reveal the most essential foundations of his thought.

In this paper we deal with what Matsumoto calls Type I subjective motion expressions in English. According to Matsumoto they cannot occur with frequency adverbs and do not generally allow the progressive aspect. We show that his observation is not valid by presenting naturally occurring examples of the expressions which involve frequency adverbs and the progressive aspect, respectively. Further we investigate how the frequency adverbs are allowed and what functions the progressive aspect has. For the frequency adverbs we propose a licensing condition employing the sense of iteration. It also turns out that the subjective motion implicit in the expressions makes a major contribution to the occurrence of the adverbs in a certain case. As to the progressive aspect we take up two cases, namely, its use in captions and in discourses describing courses/routes of particular paths and point out that in the former it conveys the speaker's or writer's higher degree of subjective perspective and in the latter it can be used to add a further explanation to a particular phase of the path described. Lastly, we discuss briefly the aspectual property of the expressions and its relation to the occurrence of frequency adverbs and the progressive aspect.

本報告書では、全国の高等教育機関(大学、短期大学、高等専門学校)の社会・地域貢献活動に関する組織や、行政との関係、専門人材育成活動、コンサルティング活動などの現状と課題を明らかにした。多くの高等教育機関が社会・地域貢献活動に取り組んでおり、理工学部を含む総合大学が多い国立大学で特に幅広い活動がみられた。体制・運営管理については、各校において比較的整備が進んでいた。教員への活動に対するインセンティブの付与では、国公立大学においては比較的措置が取られているが、私立大学や短期大学ではインセンティブが付与されていない学校が多かった。社会・地域貢献活動に関する課題としては、国立大学では活動が比較的活発であったが、運営実態面では、資金や人員に関して課題とする学校も多く、今後、社会・地域貢献活動を行なうためには人的・予算的なリソースの確保が重要なテーマと言える。社会・地域貢献活動は、学校種別や規模により活動内容に多様性がみられた。社会・地域貢献は、統一的な基準を設けて標準化を図るより、学校の組織特性や地域環境・ニーズに合わせた多様な取組を支援していくことにより、その取組がより活性化すると考えられる。 This study investigates the current status and characteristics of social and regional engagement, including management aspects, relationship with government, continuing professional development and consulting services, of higher education institutions (universities and colleges) in Japan. With regards to social and regional engagement, many institutions have provided a variety of program. Especially national universities, which are often classified as comprehensive universities including sience and technology departments, have a wide range of programs in places that facilitate social and regional engagement. Many of higher education institutions have developed the organizational structure and operational management. While many national and public universities have set up incentivizing measures to encourage professors to engage with the society, many of private universities and junior colleges have yet to develop incentivizing measures. Although many national universities actively have engaged with their society, the procurement of the necessary human resource and financial capital to conduct programs is a critical challenge in the future.There were a wide variety of social and regional engagement programs run by different institutions that differ depending on institution classification, specialization, and size. Instead of standardizing these programs by applying a unified set of rules and guidelines, instituting a diverse system that reflects the unique organizational characteristics of the institution and needs of surrounding society would be more effective in developing social and regional engagement programs. By allowing institutions to devise a system that fits their schools and region, higher education institutions can facilitate more dynamic and active programs for their society and region.
