This paper proposes a technique for 360-degree panoramic video generating with multiple actual and virtual cameras in real-time. Our method acquires multiple images consisting of real images from physical cameras and virtual images from virtual cameras by GPU-based texture and encoding. Then, our method generates 360-degree panoramic images by ORB feature detection and matching to virtual and real images, automatic homography estimation based on the random absent consensus algorithm, multi-band blending and produces high-resolution video stream by Nvidia encoder based Hardware accelerated video encoding. From experimental results, we verified that our method takes at least 45fps at 2K resolution and 33fps at 4K resolution when transmitting the head mounted display stereo, enabling real-time 360-degree panoramic video generation as well as transmission.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are critical for plant biological processes. As signaling molecules, ROS regulate plant growth and development through cell expansion, elongation, and programmed cell death. Furthermore, ROS production is induced by microbe-associated molecular patterns (MAMPs) treatment and biotic stresses, and contributes to plant resistance to pathogens. Thus, MAMP-induced ROS production has been an indicator for plant early immune responses or stress responses. One of widely used methods for the measurement is a luminol-based assay to measure extracellular ROS production with a bacterial flagellin epitope (flg22) as a MAMP elicitor. Nicotiana benthamiana is susceptible to a wide variety of plant pathogenic agents and therefore commonly used for ROS measurements. On the other hand, Arabidopsis thaliana, many of genetical lines of which are available, is also conducted to ROS measurements. Tests in an asterid N. benthamiana and a rosid A. thaliana can reveal conserved molecular mechanisms in ROS production. However, the small size of A. thaliana leaves requires many seedlings for experiments. This study examined flg22-induced ROS production in another member of the Brassicaceae family, Brassica rapa ssp. rapa (turnip), which has large and flat leaves. Our experiments indicated that 10 nM and 100 nM flg22 treatments induced high ROS levels in turnip. Turnip tended to have a lower standard deviation in multiple concentrations of flg22 treatment. Therefore, these results suggested that turnip can be a good material from the rosid clade for ROS measurement.

Mononuclear phagocytic cells (MPCs) are classified into monocytes (Mos)/macrophages and dendritic cells (DCs) based on their functions. Cells of MPCs lineage act as immune modulators by affecting effector cells, such as NK cells, T cells, and B cells. This study aimed to investigate the effects of Lacticaseibacillus paracasei strain Shirota (LcS) ingestion on peripheral MPCs, particularly on their expression of functional cell-surface molecules enhanced in healthy adults. Thus, twelve healthy office workers consumed a fermented milk drink containing 1.0 × 1011 cfu of LcS (LcS-FM) or a control unfermented milk drink (CM) once a day for 6 weeks. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were prepared from blood samples, and immune cells and functional cell-surface molecules were analyzed. We observed remarkable differences in the expression of HLAABC, MICA, CD40, and GPR43 in plasmacytoid DCs (pDCs) between the LcS-FM and CM groups, whereas no difference was found in CD86 or HLADR expression. The LcS-FM group exhibited higher CD40 expression in both conventional DCs (cDCs) and Mos, especially in type 2 conventional DCs (cDC2s) and classical monocytes (cMos); higher percentages of cMos, intermediate monocytes (iMos), and nonclassical monocytes; and higher numbers of cMos and iMos in PBMCs than the CM group. LcS ingestion increased the expression of HLAABC, MICA, CD40, and GPR43 in pDCs and CD40 in cDCs and Mos, particularly cDC2s and cMos. These results suggest that LcS modulates the function of MPCs that may lead to the regulation of immune effector functions in healthy adults.

The relationships between various diseases and the human gut microbiota (GM) have been revealed. However, the relationships between the human abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) and GM remains unknown. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to clarify the association between the human AAA and GM. Stool samples from 30 consecutive patients with AAA before aneurysm repair and those of 30 controls without vascular diseases were analyzed by 16S rRNA gene (V3–4) sequencing using an Illumina MiSeq system and QIIME 2. There was no significant difference in age (75 vs. 75 years) or gender (80% vs. 87% males) between the groups. No significant difference in GM composition was observed in principal coordinate analysis between the two groups, whereas the AAA group showed a significantly lower abundance of Bifidobacterium adolescentis (p<0.01) at the species level than the controls. This study demonstrated that the abundance of B. adolescentis decreased in patients with AAA. This is the first study to show the characteristics of the GM in patients with AAA. Studies are needed to reveal if causal relationships exists between the human AAA and GM.

Serum soluble interleukin-2 receptor (sIL-2R) is a practical tumor marker that is elevated in hematogenous tumors. The purpose of this study was to determine the usefulness of serum sIL-2R for differentiating among malignant brain tumors, including primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) and secondary central nervous system lymphoma (SCNSL). This study retrospectively investigated the sIL-2R levels in 130 patients with various types of malignant brain tumors, including PCNSL patients (n = 48) and SCNSL (n = 8); metastatic brain tumors (MTs, n = 16); and glioblastoma (GBM, n = 58). The median sIL-2R level (U/mL) of the PCNSL, SCNSL, MTs, and GBM groups were 489.7, 1024.8, 413.3, and 332.7 respectively. The sIL-2R level was significantly higher in the SCNSL group than in the PCNSL or other groups. The area under the ROC curve generated from the sIL-2R level was 0.826 (sensitivity: 0.875, specificity: 0.667, cutoff value: 521 U/mL) for differentiating SCNSL from PCNSL and 0.685 (sensitivity: 0.667, specificity: 0.707, cutoff value: 342 U/mL) for differentiating PCNSL from GBM. Measurement of sIL-2R level was convenient and useful to differentiate between SCNSL and PCSNL, both of which demand different treatment strategies.

Chicken eggshell membrane (ESM) is a two-layered insoluble sheet located between the eggshell and the albumen and is composed of fibrous proteins. Naturally occurring composite material, such as ESM have various ameliorative effects for osteoarthritis of the knee, joint, and connective tissue when ingested and absorbed as supplements. The physiological effects by oral ESM intake, especially on respiratory function,remain unclear. We have recently reported that tritium-labeled ESM powder can be digested and absorbed by mice and distributed in tissues throughout the body. We have also reported that the application of hydrolyzed water-soluble ESM to human skin significantly improved skin elasticity, which declines with aging, in a before and after comparison at 3 months, and significantly reduced wrinkles at the corners of the eyes compared to controls. In the present double-blind, placebo-controlled study, we examined breathing, skin, and body functions, such as zigzag walking, after ESM ingestion compared to controls. We hypothesized this to improve physical functions by improving the extracellular matrix (ECM) within the range of homeostasis. Among 20 healthy subjects (age: 21–68 years), the group given ESM supplementation for 8 weeks showed significantly increased rate of change in arm skin elasticity, respiratory function (forced expiratory volume in 1 s to forced vital capacity ratio (FEV1/FVC)), and zigzag walking speed compared to controls. There was a significant correlation between the rate of change in FEV1/FVC and that of zigzag walking after 8 weeks compared to the initial values. These functional improvements observed in skin elasticity, lung function, and motor function with oral intake of ESM suggest that maintaining elasticity in the cellular environment can support overall health and activity levels.

A new salticid species of the genus Ceriomura Simon 1901 is described herein as C. momilensis n. sp. found in the dry forest of the Córdoba department in northwestern Colombia. Photographs and illustrations of the diagnostic characters for both males and females and ecological comments are provided. In addition, a distribution map, and a key with all species of the genus Ceriomura are included.

Background:According to troponin-based criteria of myocardial infarction (MI), patients without elevation of creatine kinase (CK), formerly classified as unstable angina (UA), are now diagnosed as non-ST-elevation MI (NSTEMI), but little is known about their outcomes.Methods and Results:Between July 2012 and March 2014, 3,283 consecutive patients with MI were enrolled. Clinical follow-up data were obtained up to 3 years. The primary endpoint was a composite of all-cause death, non-fatal MI, non-fatal stroke, cardiac failure and urgent revascularization for UA. There were 2,262 patients with ST-elevation MI (STEMI), 563 NSTEMI with CK elevation (NSTEMI+CK) and 458 NSTEMI without CK elevation (NSTEMI-CK). From day 0, Kaplan-Meier curves for the primary endpoint began to diverge in favor of NSTEMI-CK for up to 30 days. The 30-day event rate was significantly lower in patients with NSTEMI-CK (3.3%) than in STEMI (8.6%, P<0.001) and NSTEMI+CK (9.9%, P<0.001). Later, the event curves diverged in favor of STEMI. The event rate from 31 days to 3 years was significantly lower in patients with STEMI (19.8%) than in NSTEMI+CK (33.6%, P<0.001) and NSTEMI-CK (34.2%, P<0.001). Kaplan-Meier curves from 31 days to 3 years were almost identical between NSTEMI+CK and NSTEMI-CK (P=0.91).Conclusions:Despite smaller infarct size and better short-term outcomes, long-term outcomes of NSTEMI-CK after convalescence were as poor as those for NSTEMI+CK and worse than for STEMI.

Using a plaque reduction assay, treatment of human influenza A viruses with the fruit-juice concentrate of Japanese plum (Prunus mume SIEB. et ZUCC) showed strong in vitro anti-influenza activity against human influenza A viruses before viral adsorption, but not after viral adsorption, with 50% inhibitory concentration (IC50) values against A/PR/8/34 (H1N1) virus, A/Aichi/2/68 (H3N2) virus and A/Memphis/1/71 (H3N2) virus of 6.35±0.17, 2.84±1.98 and 0.53±0.10 μg/ml, respectively. The plum-juice concentrate exhibited hemagglutination activity toward guinea pig erythrocytes. Its hemagglutination activity was inhibited by the monosaccharide N-acetylneuraminic acid and a sialoglycoprotein (fetuin), but not by the other tested monosaccharides (mannose, galactose, glucose and N-acetylglucosamine), suggesting the presence of a lectin-like molecule(s) in the Japanese plum-juice concentrate. Our findings suggest that the fruit-juice concentrate of Japanese plum may prevent and reduce infection with human influenza A virus, possibly via inhibition of viral hemagglutinin attachment to host cell surfaces by its lectin-like activity.

NIRS measurement was carried out in a confinement experiment for the first time. A tendency for NIRS integrated values to decrease was observed. Problems such as the learning effect needed to be resolved. SOC had an upward trend. Regarding POMS, the first day of confinement showed the highest score, after which no obvious deterioration was seen.

Overweight and obesity are associated with many chronic diseases. This study aimed to clarify the possible effects of consuming golden kiwifruit as daily fruit intake on body composition, lipid metabolism and inflammatory responses. Methods: We recruited twenty-two overweight and obese subjects and they were asked to consume two golden kiwifruit every day during the 6-wk experimental period. At the baseline and end of the study, fasting blood samples were collected and anthropometric and blood pressure measurement were conducted. Results: During the experimental period, no adverse effect and dropout were reported. At the end of the study, a significant decrease in body fat and circulatory tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α concentration were found. In addition, there was a reduction of angiotensin II (AgII) concentration and systolic blood pressure in subjects with baseline systolic blood pressure (SBP) ≥125 mmHg. Conclusion: Our results suggested that daily golden kiwifruit intake can reduce body fat mass, improve blood pressure and regulating inflammatory responses in overweight and obese young adults.

Based on an auxiliary differential equation (ADE) and new weighted Laguerre polynomials (WLPs), an efficient 3-D finite-difference time-domain method (FDTD) with factorized-splitting (FS) scheme is proposed to calculate wave propagation in general dispersive materials. The ADE technique is introduced to model general dispersive materials. Using a new temporal basis, the new WLPs can improve computational efficiency and save computing resources. The FS scheme is used to efficiently solve the huge sparse matrix equation. A numerical example is given to verify the accuracy and the efficiency of the proposed method. The results show its superiority compared with existing methods.
