薩南海域におけるカンパチ成魚の遊泳行動を取得し,台湾東部海域の既往知見と比較した。薩南海域の個体は台湾東部の個体よりも移動範囲が狭く,放流した海域の近傍に留まり続けていた。海域間で滞在深度は異なっていたが経験水温は同程度であった。核DNAのITS領域とmtDNAのcytochrome b領域の塩基配列情報を用いて標識個体の種判別を試みたところ,形態的にはカンパチであるにも関わらず,ヒレナガカンパチと同様のcytochrome b領域のPCR-RFLPパターンを示す個体が見られた。

Oxalic acid is an attractive chemical platform potentially available from CO2 due to its established applications and chemical characteristics enabling it to serve as a mediator in hydrometallurgy including iron-making. However, a method for synthesizing oxalic acid from CO2 has yet to be established. In the present work, the formation of oxalate scaffold during heating of cesium carbonate (Cs2CO3) in the presence of CO2 and H2 as reactants was experimentally investigated with a particular focus on the influence of supporting Cs2CO3 over porous materials. Among the support materials examined, activated carbon (AC) had a notable effect in improving the reaction rate and yield of total carboxylates (formate and oxalate) during experiments with an autoclave. An important problem was the dominant presence of formate, the intermediate between carbonate and oxalate, accounting for over 90% of the carboxylates. Changing the reaction conditions, including temperature, reaction time, partial pressure of gas components, and amount of loaded Cs2CO3, did not alter the situation. Alternatively, re-heating of the formate-rich salts over AC under CO and CO2 enhanced the oxalate fraction while maintaining the total carboxylates yield. Benefiting from the employment of support material, the two-step conversion was carried out using a gas-flow type reactor with a packed bed of Cs2CO3 supported over AC. In this reaction system, because water, acting as a promoter, was absent, the total carboxylates yield was lower than that in the autoclave, while the oxalate fraction was higher, being 71.8% with a yield of 43.2% on a Cs2CO3-carbon basis.

This study revealed that most maladjustment behaviors had avoidance mechanism. These behaviors included anxiety disorders, somatoform disorders, dissociative disorders, alcohol dependence, social withdrawal, school refusal and the like. In the functional analysis of this article, we argued that the forms of psychopathology were viewed as unhealthy methods of avoidance. The treatments of avoidance-based maladjustment behaviors (symptoms) expose clients to previously avoided private experiences.

Iwogumoa songminjae (Paik and Yaginuma in Paik et al., 1969) is recorded for the first time from Japan on the basis of specimens collected in the Tsushima Islands, Kyushu and previously identified as I. insidiosa (L. Koch, 1878). The relationships among the Japanese species of Iwogumoa Kishida, 1955 are analyzed using mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I with various Japanese species of Coelotes Blackwall, 1841 sensu lato as the outgroup. A new synonym is proposed through a comparison of morphological characteristics and the results of our molecular analysis: Coelotes iyoensis Nishikawa, 2009 (known only from the male) is a junior synonym of Coelotes mohrii Nishikawa, 2009 (known only from the female).

Background: To provide a better healthcare system for patients with mitochondrial diseases, it is important to understand the basic epidemiology of these conditions, including the number of patients affected. However, little information about them has appeared in Japan to date.Methods: To gather data of patients with mitochondrial diseases, we estimated the number of patients with mitochondrial diseases from April 2018 through March 2019 using a national Japanese health care claims database, the National Database (NDB). Further, we calculated the prevalence of patients, and sex ratio, age class, and geographical distribution.Results: From April 2018 through March 2019, the number of patients with mitochondrial diseases was 3,629, and the prevalence was 2.9 (95% confidence interval [CI], 2.8–3.0) per 100,000 general population. The ratio of females and males was 53 to 47, and the most frequent age class was 40–49 years old. Tokyo had the greatest number of patients with mitochondrial diseases, at 477, whereas Yamanashi had the fewest, at 13. Kagoshima had the highest prevalence of patients with mitochondrial diseases, 8.4 (95% CI, 7.1–10.0) per 100,000 population, whereas Yamanashi had the lowest, 1.6 (95% CI, 0.8–2.7).Conclusion: The number of patients with mitochondrial diseases estimated by this study, 3,269, was more than double that indicated by the Japanese government. This result may imply that about half of all patients are overlooked for reasons such as low severity of illness, suggesting that the Japanese healthcare system needs to provide additional support for these patients.

Our study provides the first GPS tracking data of Little Egret Egretta garzetta from an East Asian population. Our two main objectives were to reveal the migratory route and migratory strategy of Little Egret, and to study inter-annual breeding and wintering site fidelity. Our data, from an adult and a juvenile, suggest that this species is a short-distance high-speed migrant using few or no stopover sites. Both individuals displayed high breeding and wintering site fidelity. They also used very small winter home ranges, probably associated with high prey availability in aquaculture ponds.

We describe, for the first time, the rattling call of the Crested Honey Buzzard Pernis ptilorhynchus. This was previously considered to be a unique vocalization of European Honey Buzzard Pernis apivorus; however, we detected this series of rapidly repeated notes given by an adult female, a second-year, a juvenile and a nestling Crested Honey Buzzard. The rattling calls appeared to be given at times of great excitement, such as to an approaching intruder, mate or parent at the nest, or to a familiar person who usually gave food in the case of captive individuals. The rattling call of an adult female Crested Honey Buzzard at the nest was at a frequency of 2.12 (s.d.±0.07) kHz, and lasted 141 (s.d.±18) ms, which was higher and longer than in European Honey Buzzard.

We performed 3 kidney biopsies in a 71-year-old man. At the first biopsy, we made the diagnosis of immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4)-related interstitial nephritis characterized by the simultaneous presence of IgG4-positive plasma cells and characteristic fibrosis with a bird's-eye pattern. At the second biopsy, rather than finding fibrosis as a post-inflammatory scar, we noted that steroid treatment had caused the simultaneous disappearance of IgG4-positive plasma cells and fibrosis and had restored the normal tubular structure. The third biopsy showed the recurrence of the disease with inflammatory cells accompanied by fibrosis. These findings suggest that IgG4-positive plasma cells and fibrosis occur simultaneously.

Owing to their unique physicochemical properties and diverse biological effects, ultrafine bubbles (UFBs) have recently been expected to be utilized for industrial and biological purposes. Thus, this study investigated the biological safety of UFBs in water for living beings in drinking the water with a view to future use in health sciences. In this study, we used H2-filled UFBs (NanoGAS®) that can hold hydrogen in the aqueous phase for a long time. Mice were randomly assigned to one of three groups: those receiving NanoGAS® water, reverse osmosis water, or natural mineral water, and they ingested it ad libitum for one month or three months. As a result, subchronic drinking of NanoGAS® water does not affect either the common blood biochemical parameters or the health of the organs and mucosal membranes. Our results, for the first time, scientifically demonstrated the biological safety of H2-filled UFBs water for subchronic oral consumption.

Background: Frailty is an important prognostic factor in patients with cardiovascular diseases (CVD), and patients with CVD have a high rate of concurrent psycho-emotional stress, as well as depressive mood and anxiety symptoms. Despite this, few reports have examined the effects of the efficacy of Phase II cardiac rehabilitation (CR) in frail patients, including improvements in anxiety levels.Methods and Results: In all, 137 patients (mean [±SD] age 65.8±13.0 years; 71% male) who participated in Phase II CR and were assessed after CR completion were included in this study. Patients were evaluated using the Kihon Checklist (KCL) form at the beginning of CR and were divided into the 3 groups according to KCL scores: frail (n=34, 25%), pre-frail (n=40, 29%), and non-frail (n=63, 46%). Physical function and anxiety levels were compared among the 3 groups. The pre-frail and frail groups had significantly higher state anxiety and trait anxiety than the non-frail group (P<0.01). At the end of Phase II CR, all 3 groups showed significant improvements in the 6-min walking distance (P<0.05). State anxiety improved significantly in the non-frail and pre-frail groups, whereas trait anxiety only improved in the non-frail group.Conclusions: Physical function was improved in frail patients who participated in Phase II CR. However, there was no significant improvement in their level of anxiety.

Objectives: To clarify the concept of workplace violence in nursing and propose an operational definition of the concept.Methods: The review method used was Walker and Avant's eight-step method.Results: Identification of the key attributes, antecedents, consequences, and empirical referents of the concept resulted in an operational definition of the concept. The proposed operational definition identifies workplace violence experienced by nurses as any act or threat of verbal or physical violence, harassment, intimidation, or other threatening disruptive behavior that occurs at the worksite with the intention of abusing or injuring the target.Conclusions: Developing insights into the concept will assist in the design of new research scales that can effectively measure the underlying issues, provide a framework that facilitates nursing interventions, and improve the validity of future studies.

Overexpression of heat shock protein 70 kDa (HSP70) is known to confer cellular protection against ischemia–reperfusion (I/R) injury. Radicicol, a HSP90 inhibitor, has been reported to induce the expression of HSP70 protein. Here we studied whether radicicol attenuated renal I/R injury in vivo. Treatment of mice with radicicol ameliorated renal I/R injury and increased renal HSP70 mRNA and protein. Administration of radicicol with quercetin, an inhibitor of HSP70 induction, eliminated the renoprotective effect of radicicol. Our results suggest that the up-regulation of renal HSP70 protein by radicicol leads to a novel drug therapy against renal I/R injury.

As a new type of digital currency, Bitcoin is considered as “future gold” by various scholars. Therefore, this study considers Bitcoin and gold as a group of hedging assets to conduct investment research and it also discusses the investment rules between Bitcoin and gold: prediction of the rise and fall of Bitcoin, comparison of the characteristics of Bitcoin and gold, and the impact of the transaction procedures of Bitcoin and gold on the final trading results, and formulates trading strategies through optimization algorithms. Then, four machine learning algorithms, i.e., LSTM, BP neural network, Adaboost, and Bagging, are introduced to predict the rise and fall of gold and Bitcoin the next day, and then, the entropy weight method is used to synthesize four predicted results to ensure the robustness of the predicted results. To establish the optimal trading strategy, this study considers the maximum expected return as the goal to develop a single-objective optimization model and historical five-day price volatility as a risk factor. In this study, ant colony, simulated annealing, and genetic algorithms are used to solve the single-objective optimization model. Finally, we conclude that Bitcoin, similar to other financial assets, e.g., gold, is sensitive to shocks and volatile and possesses a relatively quiet cycle. When Bitcoin has an asymmetric impact, Bitcoin and gold can equally treat transactions.
