Bowlby (1969,1973,1980) who proposed the concept of "internal working models" of self and other in attachment relationships, considered that psychopathology such as depression and pathological grief stem from early insecure attachment relationships. He suggested that defensive exclusion of internal working models cause serious emotional disorders. Recent development of AAI (Main & Goldwyn, 1984), which enabled to measure adult attachment representations, has facilitated studying the intergenerational transmission of caregiver-child relationsips and the relation between attachment and various psychopathology. This paper reviewed studies about attachment of children under unfavorable environment, relation of early attachment to children's aggressive behavior, and relation between adult psychopathology and traumatic experiences in early attachment relationships. Finally, some considerations were given to the prevention of intergenerational transmission of traumatic attachment relationships.

The purpose of this paper is to obtain an overview of the current state of community support for "Hikikomori", to develop a model of the support for Hikikomori in community setting, and to indicate problems that we have to solve. The support for family of youths in Hikikomori state is to help mental suffering that family have, and to think together and suggest concrete, adequate ways to approach Hikikomori youths. These supports take such forms as study groups by family themselves and family session and family therapy. The support for Hikikomori youths is provided in the forms of personal session, home visit, free space, SST group and so on. The process of support for Hikikomori begins with the support for family, follows the support for Hikikomori youths mainly in the form of personal session, and then spreads various resources such as mental friends and free space. For better support for help Hikikomori, however, present difficulties must be overcomed, which include the shortage of human resources and the luck of sufficient network in community, especially collaboration between municipality and private support sector. Moreover, we should study the effects of existing ways of supporting, especially the support to youths in Hikikomori state, and improve them qualitatively and quantitatively

In this study, I analyzed the contents of reminiscences written by the Korean bars about their days prepared the Korean bar examination, named Sa-Bub-Shi-Heum (사 법 시 험,「司法試験」), from the perspective of linkage between examination of qualification and education at universities. In the existing qualification system for the bars in Korea, there is no institutional linkage between the two. But, there are substantial linkages caused by the hierarchy of university formatted by the scores made by each freshman at the national examination for undergraduate admission. The informal resources requiring for pass the bar examination is different with the hierarchy of university. In other words, the opportunity for pass the Korean bar examination is not equal, even though there are no restriction of academic background apply for the examination.

This paper describes the theoretical basis of the research grant project which is designed to provide a set of methodologies to develop high school students’ meta-grammatical abilities. The paper begins by explaining the purpose of the project and the key concept ‘meta-grammatical abilities’, which are supposed to enable students to analyze any language in a structural way. It then goes on to make historical surveys, respectively from the viewpoints of Japanese education and English language teaching, of grammatical approaches to language teaching, and finally suggests the possibility of combining some of those different approaches into a methodology of interlanguage grammar teaching.

This article presents a conceptual frame work for chronic eating disorders. In recent years, the pathological study of eating disorders mainly emphasized on female developmental identity. Especially, disturbance of body image perception and personality development have been focused on, which related to the ego function and the fear of maturity, although 'fear of being fat'complex is thought of one of the symptoms and body image may not be a unique factor to appearing in the eating disorder. Thus, instead of these concepts, the importance of the familial pathology and family system is beginning to receive attention now. In this study, after reviewed presentation of some theory, Iwill discuss related concepts, family systems and family dynamics. And finally, the point of view from the parentーchild (daughter) relationship, Iwill describe about the parental psychopathology model and the internalized parental conflict model.

The purpose of this paper is to clarify the change of the vocational courses in high school education. In the 1950's and the 1960's some prefectures in rural areas multiplied vocational courses in order to develop the community. However. after 1972. the ratio of vocational courses decreased. On the other hand. academic courses increased because many students wanted to go on to academic courses. Metropolitan areas, where the influence of the second baby boom was markedly. set up many academic courses. Nowadays many prefectures reduce the distinction between the vocational courses and the academic courses. As a result, the function of the selection in high school education weakens. This function must be important.

The whole discussion presents a critique of Wittgenstein's rule-following problem based on Dummett's theory of meaning in educational relevance. Despite the admission that meaning is use and the emphasis of ostensive training in language acquisition, Wittgenstein and Dummett elaborated decisively irreconcilable arguments over explicability of meaning. Repudiation of Frege's realism and obliteration of systematic accounts of verbal practices in Wittgenstein identify themselves with the exegesis that a blind correspondence of an act is the only criterion for rule-following. Contrastingly Dummett, contending that this assumption embodies constant danger of incommunicability, formalises, on grounds of Frege's distinction among sense, reference, and force, a theory of meaning which reasonably clarifies our knowledge in understanding a sentence. It is conjectured that Dummett's proclamation that a theory of sense, the mode of representation of understanding, can not only be shown but also be stated infers that a harmonious transformation between these two states arises in the process of conservative expansion; namely a sense firstly presented in an ostensive manner becomes constitutive of effectively decidable statements instrumental both in systematic refinement of our learning and in a grasp of another newly shown. Nonetheless, the question of how this transformation practically manifests itself, largely depending on subject matters, still remains unsolved, which has to be meticulously scrutinised in diverse curriculum studies. A concluding remark also notifies that "philosophy of thought" proposed by Dummett, which should elucidate in what a grasp of meaning expressed by language consists, must be established as a philosophical basis of education.

The purpose of this paper is to find explanations to the research questions; "what are the experiences of the elderly mothers before making children be residential institutes unexpectedly and after?" 2 mothers of children with mental retardation have participated. The process of making children be out-of-home consists of 3 stages: <1.the emergency phase>, <2.the complicated phase of residential placement utilization>, <3.the stable phase>. The promotional thought for the mothers to use of their children- living away from home is giving up for taking care of children any more. After starting utilization of residential placement, the mothers felt guilty strongly. To feel trust toward stuffs of residential institutes is important for mothers and related to positive evaluations toward the residential institutes. To support these mothers, information provision and attentive hearing is needed.

This paper examines the "ontological gerrymandering" critique and subsequent controversies in the constructionist studies of social problems. After glancing over three kinds of responses to this critique within the constructionist camp, I focus on their coping with the self-referential aspect of the constructionist perspective. Further, I take up political and moral concerns in constructionism. My insistence is that within these concerns one can find one clue to overpass the epistemological and methodological difficulties in constructionism. In conclusion, I address a question of the pragmatic justification in the studies of social problems.

In this paper, I focused on quality assurance system of Japanese professional education and analyzed higher education policy. I specifically discussed the two professions, those are, medical doctors and legal professions. I examined the political background and process of introducing quality assurance system and how to implement it. Moreover, I analyzed the records of the governmental councils on scheme of quality assurance and extracted the logic and strategy to "quality" assurance from them. I found out that 1) the national examinations and international standards of the professions make the quality assurance tools at education systems functioned effectively, and 2) the definition of quality was varied by stake holders who defined it.

For academic high school students in local areas, it is necessary to make geographical transition from their home town to cities to go to "good" universities, while others may decide to remain their home countries to go to local colleges. What factors differentiate students into those two routes to have higher education? For what sake do some students decide to leave for large cities, and others to stay in their home town? This study pays attention to geographical mobility of students in top rank academic high schools in Japan. We administered a survey of 3,767 senior students in 12 high schools, all of which admit academically top students in their areas in 2006 and 2007. By analyzing the survey data, we will explore the following research questions: 1. What factors, including structural and socio-psychological, influences students'decision of mobility both at college entrance and future job entry? 2. What reasons lead them to pursue "elite" universities? Which goals either for self -realization or contribution to the society give rationale to apply for those universities? Are there any different mechanisms of this determination between high schools in large cities and rural areas? 3. What factors influence the formation of students'consciousness to contribute to the society? Do school experiences raise such consciousness? What school activities and cultures affect it? The data analyses shows that academic high schools in local communities have power to influence students'mobility and creating consciousness for devoting for the society.

"Public Understanding of Science (PUS)" has been paid attention to in many countries since 1980s. PUS tends to be confused with public acceptance of science, but it contains both getting correct information and decision-making based on informed decision. Science museums have been regarded outside politics, but their shortness of representation about social context and uncritical attitude to scientific progress are criticized from a view of PUS. Recently, science museums have challenged to represent contemporary science and technology. Their aim is to offer a basis for visitors to make up their own minds. The principle of learning/education about controversial science and technology is an open end process.

This paper attempts to demonstrate the uniqueness of David Katz's theory in general and of his theory of ""medium"" in particular. When we explore the environment with our hand we can immediately feel objects in the environment. What is intriguing is that the same seems to hold true when we explore the environment with a rod in our hand. The tip of the tool, in other words, seems to be capable of direct perception and the tool as a whole seems to become ""transparent"" when it is in use. It will be argued that a phenomenon like this can be understood as the Cartesian ""dogma"" if we read Katz's ""The World of Touch"" in the light of James J. G ibson's theory of tools.
