Effects of color on perceived qualities of textile materials were studied by using dyed polyester chips. Six hues were investigated. Five color chips of textile with constant lightness and 4 to 5 chips with constant chromaticness were chosen in each hue. 25 Girl students were investigated their own 6 fundamental qualities by means of SD-method after demonstration of the textile chips at constant conditions. The effects of Munsell chroma and value were studied by means of correlation coefflcients and slopes of regression straight line. The lightness value affects on senses of shade of color, roughness, lightness, hardness, and the chromaticness value does on the sense of activeness.

We focused FTP( : French Toast Picnic) 2000,2001 : Automobile Festival at Kanaz Forest of Creation in Fukui by view point of design for cultural activities or local community promotion.FTP was managed by volunteer group of community with small operating expenses. They introduced e-mail communication between their rooms, offices and portable telephones for rapid contact and decisionmaking.As they succeeded in their closer conection, efficiency work and management Automobile Festival.We made inspection goodwill of entrants in time rally game toward that event.

Users act based on the experience. Therefore, I think that the Web site must be made for the user to be able to utilize an experience naturally. In this research, We compared experiments of user's act in "Bookstore in the real world" and "Web site of the virtual world". From the experiment we gained three results : 1) Necessity of offer of information which helps the selection to user. 2) Necessity of offer of information which urge judgment to user. 3) Necessity of classification by relation of genre. I will experiment by the user of a different age group, and analyze the influence that the user's experience brings acts compared with this experiment result.

The purpose of the present work is to suggest practical principles in designing web pages of moderate to high complexity in structure. The examined case was the formal web-pages of the University of Tsukuba recently renewed with a special emphasis on the web accessibility and universal design. We obtrained interesting findings about the use of the Japanese language by eye-examinations and those by a speech browser for the visually-impaired. They have been reflected in the refinement of the pages by the authors.

This paper describes The Furoshiki (Japanese wrapping cloths) and is development. The Emakimono (Japanese picture scrolls) and some remains are regarded on the designs including functions, forms, and ways of utilizations as living tools. It is obtained : (1) The Furoshiki was initiated in the late 6th century, the Asuka period. Two kinds of design are found in the remains of the prince Shotoku. (2) The Emakimono in Nara until Muromachi era, contains varieties of designs which were tightly connected to social backgrounds and temporal rules. Beyond the difference of sexes, generations, and social positions, it has been used widely to represent feelings of prey, respect with utilities of package, transportation and ceremonies.

The purpose of this research is to reconsider the fundamental aspects of Japanese typesetting. The results showed as follows. 1.The actual usage of typographical signs in periodicals and books in literature of from 1887 to 1896 during the Meiji poriod were grasped. 2. Books written in classical Chinese and its usage of punctuation had a major influence over the way of using them in Japan. 3. There are some effective and attractive, although they are in the primitive form, of typographical signs in the Meiji period's prints.

The object of this research is to consider appropriate Japanese standards on printing and copy editing styles. For that, we search under typographical signs on the printing : novels and newspapers in the Meiji period. The results of the search are following : We collected 26 kinds of punctuational patterns first. And, we collected about 100 kinds of typographical signs except punctuational marks. we also collected rrLany kinds of various ways to use them. As the result, we recognized that there are some effective or attractive examples of typographical signs on the printings in the Meiji period .

The purpose of this research is to confirm a history of Japanese typographical signs and to comprehend its total image since the Meiji period. In this paper the authors survey the texts in the editorial handbooks, literatures and encyclopedias, and to classify the usage of punctuational marks, symbols, arranging and tabulating them in chronological order. These procedures may show that the influence of the Western punctuations and their usage appear variously changed the Japanese way of using them in the printing books.

台湾では、近年若者の服装の色として、黒がずっと流行色として定着している。本研究は、台湾における色彩文化研究の一環として、黒に対するイメージ調査を三回に分けて行った。初めのイメージ調査において、黒は「上質」「高級」「高価」のイメージが強いという結果を得た。次ぎの調査の結果、「重い」「強い」「硬い」「冷たい」「粗暴な」が黒の主なイメージ語として選ばれた。最後に黒の服装に対するイメージ語を書いてもらったところ、「セクシー」「クール」「ハンサム」などの連想語が55%〜60%であった。以上のようなイメージ調査を通して、人びとが黒を着装する理由として、黒の物理的性質によるのではなく、主にはその心理的なイメージによる実用性を重視した結果であることが明らかになった。

Information Design driven a multi disciplinary research project has been started. It is one of the CREST project funded by JST. In this paper we introduce a framework of the project that is "Platform design and development for creating, sharing and exchanging of people's everyday expressions." Concept of the design from "Marginal Art" by Shunsuke Tsurumi, philosopher, comprehensive views and recomposing functions for reflective thinking on the expressions and communal wisdom of the expressions are introduced as the framework. Acting practical workshops as ways of organizing the research project with multi disciplines for developing these concepts into technological system and cultural program are also discussed.

This paper investigates a viewpoint of The Studio about Japanese fine art and craft on exhibit in the Japan-British Exhibition(191O)as foundation work of a study on relationship Western design movements and Japan until the end of the 19c to the beginnig of the 20c. There were 6 articles about painting, ceramic art, textiles and embroidery, wood and ivory carving, metal work, and cloisonne ware. There were various levels from antique to craft for export in Japanese exhibits of the Japan-British Exhibition. Above all, The Studio payed attention to the modification in Japanese contemporary fine art and arts and crafts for the influence of West and the Japanese attitude on the modification.

This system aims at deepening the viewer's understanding of artwork through the use of a mobile phone system. The system has two goals: observation and expansion. When in the presence of an artwork, the viewer records their impressions by means of a mobile phone interface. The recording of the viewer's experience can be input into a mobile phone as the viewer is in front of the actual work. In order to form a deeper experience with the museum and stimulate repeat visits, during which one can form and ongoing appreciation of a work, prior personal experiences and other's opinions can be accessed and new ideas can be recorded, comparing old experiences to new.

In moden times of Japan, a child was discovered its existence and became an object of consumption. As well as any other children's articles, children's clothes were appeared with various backgrounds of those days. In this report, I revealed, from the end of Meiji to Taisho, what kind of market children's clothes established as merchandise, and deversities of the product range which I confirmed from my reserch of Doi Child Living Museum which owned children's clothes sold in in department stores and catalogues of department stores in those days.

This paper focused on Japan's design movement in the 1930s which can also be stated as the starting point of modern design in Japan. This research aims to clarify the part of small number female designer who contributed on that movement. As a case study, Michiko Yamawaki who was a textile designer has been chosen. The tea ceremony world as a part of Michiko Yamawaki's life, has cultivated her sensitivity, and by encountered with Bauhaus (design), the free way of thinking and her expression method has been acquired. By this process, she tackled the basis of life aesthetic creation from woman's viewpoint.

Last year our group produced some works by the kinetic typograpy throuh Japanese experimentally in the class of degsin college in Japan. Watching the works of the students , various expressions were seen in their structures of scenes and stories and in the ways to express their emotions. These various expressions can make the communicating method abudance. By the result of our experiments , we've recognized that the kinetic typograpy through Japanese is an effective way in the design education in the future.

Kyoumachiya which is "space for with historic property and a person to live" is demolished, and it is rebuilt to a parking lot and an apartment, an office, a modern house in a development project. Why must Kyoumachiya be demolished? It is not correct with the neighboring environment of the city to have the long history more than harf a century, and various problems produce the Toyohashi railroad Azumada main line. I studied an ideal method of LRT in conformity to the current city enviroment and society and I could enter the field of vision and studied the improvement of the public institution in the future city. In this study, I suggested a home of 2 stories to a vehicle of 2 stories. The getting on and off of the passenger is hereby possible smoothly between a short time. I can use the user with a pedestrian bridge with an elevator in succession.
