Scholars in the fields of management and economics note the importance of gaining users and achieving network effects in online C2C platforms (OCP). Although the extant literature stresses the importance of network effects and the “quantity” of users, another important factor in OCP—the “quality” of users—is often ignored. Poor quality users harm the platform's reputation; their presence makes potential users hesitant to join it. Thus, we thus build a framework for managing users' quality in OCP, and, then, analyze how managing users' quality affects trust in C2C platforms and the transaction intention of users. We build a framework for analyzing users' quality with two pairs of influential factors: ex-ante and ex-post, and top and bottom users. These two pairs lead to four quadrants. Quadrant 1 has ex-ante and bottom users; it signifies platform firms' behavior to restrict bad users from joining by ex-ante screening (entrance fees or some qualifications). Quadrant 2, which is ex-ante and top, signifies how platform firms attract superstars. Quadrant 3 is ex-post and top and signifies how platform firms educate and finally convert normal users to loyal ones. Quadrant 4—ex-post and bottom users—signifies how platform firms find users that satisfy their criteria; this helps to exclude the bad users already present on the platform. To analyze this framework, the present study analyzes data obtained from OCP users of Mercari and Airbnb by distributing 461 questionnaires (Mercari n=242, Airbnb n=219) through a research company. We find that: (1) controlling bottom users (limited participation) increases trust in C2C platforms, and (2) controlling top users (favorable treatment for high quality users) increases the transaction intention of users. This paper highlights the issue of users' quality in OCP by building a framework for managing it—something prior research neglected by focusing on network effects.

Background: The logistic regression analysis proposed by Schouten et al. (Stat Med. 1993;12:1733–1745) has been a standard method in current statistical analysis of case-cohort studies, and it enables effective estimation of risk ratio from selected subsamples, with adjustment of potential confounding factors. Schouten et al. (1993) also proposed the standard error estimate of the risk ratio estimator can be calculated by the robust variance estimator, and this method has been widely adopted.Methods and Results: We show that the robust variance estimator does not account for the duplications of case and subcohort samples and generally has certain bias, i.e., inaccurate confidence intervals and P-values are possibly obtained. To address the invalid statistical inference problem, we provide an alternative bootstrap-based valid variance estimator. Through simulation studies, the bootstrap method consistently provided more precise confidence intervals compared with those provided by the robust variance method, while retaining adequate coverage probabilities.Conclusion: The robust variance estimator has certain bias, and inadequate conclusions might be deduced from the resultant statistical analyses. The proposed bootstrap variance estimator can provide more accurate and precise interval estimates. The bootstrap method would be an alternative effective approach in practice to provide accurate evidence.

We have investigated the values of the Rashba spin-orbit coupling constant α in In0.52Al0.48As/In0.53Ga0.47As/In0.52Al0.48As quantum wells using the weak antilocalization (WAL) analysis as a function of the structural inversion asymmetry (SIA) of the quantum wells. We have found that the deduced α values have a strong correlation with the degree of SIA of the quantum wells as predicted theoretically. The good agreement between the theoretical and experimental values of α suggests that our WAL approach for deducing α values provides a useful tool in designing future spintronics devices that utilize the Rashba spin-orbit coupling.

Taichu 袋中(1552-1639) is the priest who belonged to the Nago'e sect 名越派 of Jodo shu 浄土宗, that is the school of Pure Land Buddhism established by Honen 法然(1133-1212) in Japan. In the 8^<th> year of Genna(1622), he moved to Nara and built Nembutsuji temple 念仏寺. Then he collected the Buddhist sutras, both manuscripts and editions, with his disciples in various places and copied for the sutras those were not able to be collected. Finally, he kept them in the Buddhist sutra storehouse of Nembutsuji temple. But the Buddhist sutras collected by him were scattered and lost. Now, some of them exist in all over the world. Its history was cleared by the investigation of the Buddhist sutras collected by him and the check of the catalogues of libraries and museums which possess them in part now. By checking of the colophons and seals of their sutras, the original owners of them were cleared. Those were Joruriji temple 浄瑠璃時 in Kyoto, Kimpusenji temple 金峰山寺 in Nara, and the other temples that existed in Kyoto or Nara once. It is likely that Taichu collected the sutras existed in Kyoto and Nara, that is to say the vicinity of Nembutsuji temple, in the beginning of Edo period. The extent of his collecting sutras was relatively narrow. Because many of the Buddhist manuscripts or editions existed in that area.

An 82-year-old patient underwent a left transfemoral amputation due to a malignant soft tissue tumor. He developed symptoms of chest pain and hypoxia on the 32nd day after the operation. These symptoms were caused by deep venous thrombosis (DVT) of the stump and acute pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE), for which he was treated with anticoagulant therapy. Shortly after treatment he could resume a rehabilitation therapy. Patients with a lower extremity amputation have a higher risk of developing a DVT because of immobility and increased venous pooling in the residual limb. Even with a short stump as in this case, it is important to actively train the range of motion of the joint and try to prevent DVT.

入力電力が異なる二つの高周波整流回路の合成動作において片方の高周波整流回路が動作しなくなるカットオフ現象について定量的に考察する.合成動作を解析する準備として,単体動作において高周波整流回路がカットオフする条件を導出する.カットオフ条件となる特定の出力電圧と流通角の値を導出する.この二つの特定の値を用いて,合成動作におけるカットオフ現象の理論解析を行う.結果,入力電力が小さい方の高周波整流回路がカットオフする入力電力比を発見し,定式化した.カットオフが起きる入力電力比は,入力電力が小さい方の高周波整流回路に関係なく,入力電力が大きい方の流通角のみで決まることを発見した.導出した理論を数値解析(ハーモニックバランスシミュレーション)と実機実験(6.78 MHz, 100 W)の両方で検証し,理論とよく一致していることを示した.

At the time of the COVID-19 Crisis in April 2021, the author became a homeroom teacher for the first grade in National Institute of Technology (KOSEN), Kumamoto College. We feel that the classroom could not be ventilated smoothly, so we develop and install the CO2 monitor system in the classroom with electric parts on hand quickly. The knowledge required to develop a CO2 monitor system is not limited to circuits and programs. For example, reading electronic parts specifications written in English, operating development tools such as circuit board CAD and circuit simulator, and setting up a Web server to transmit CO2 data are required. After installation of the CO2 monitor system, the author presents the development story of it to students and conduct a questionnaire survey. As a result, we confirm that the CO2 monitor system has effects on the students' study motivation.

C57BL/6マウスの総頸動脈流を一時的に止め、再灌流することで作製した全脳虚血モデルに対し、河内晩柑果皮乾燥粉末を投与したところ、脳海馬においてミクログリアならびにアストロサイトの活性化、および神経細胞死を抑制することができた。また、近年増加が懸念されている糖尿病と脳疾患の合併症に注目し、河内晩柑果皮、およびその果皮に多く含まれているオーラプテンとナリンギンが高血糖誘発脳機能障害を改善できるか、C57BL/6マウスにストレプトゾトシンを単回投与して作製した高血糖モデルで検討したところ、高血糖による誘発される神経細胞に発現するタウタンパク質の過剰なリン酸化が、サンプルの投与により抑制された。
