Motor racing athletes in the closed-cockpit category are always facing life-threatening situations caused by heat stroke, especially in hot weather. We report here the development of a novel infrared-radiation-type eardrum thermometer, with a built-in earphone, which can be used for continuous measurement in GT car racing. We examined the accuracy of the system for core body temperature monitoring in 10 healthy volunteers (21.8 ± 1.0 (S.D.) yrs) using a temperature controlled water bath. In addition, we assessed the usefulness of the system under real racing conditions with 2 professional drivers in the practice session of 2010 SUPER GT International Series Round 4 MALAYSIA being held at the Sepang International Circuit. To examine accuracy two thermistor probes, one inserted into the ear canal and the other beneath the tongue, were used for measurements of eardrum and sublingual temperatures respectively. An infrared eardrum thermometer was inserted into the contra-lateral ear canal. The measured temperatures were recorded at 30-s intervals. The results showed good correlation between the infrared eardrum temperature and both the direct eardrumtem temperature (r = 0.994, n = 1119, p < 0.001) and the sublingual temperature (r = 0.972, n = 1119, p < 0.001). The mean difference between these temperatures was + 0.09 °C, - 0.08 °C, and 1.96 S.D. was 0.21 °C, 0.44 °C, respectively. As for the field test, the system functioned satisfactorily during real racing conditions performed on the racing circuit. These results suggest that our new system can be used in a race setting as a reliable core temperature monitor and could help to improve safety of motor sports.

In this study, we developed a point-contact force sensor, and this sensor was used to develop a measurement system that was shaped in the form of a feeding bottle. Unlike in a cantilever force sensor, in the proposed force sensor, the point of force measurement does not move. Thus, the force sensor can measure a force at a specified point. The force sensor consists of a pressure transducer and a steel ball with a diameter of 3 mm. Any force applied to the artificial nipple is transmitted to the pressure transducer, which is in point contact with the steel ball. The force sensor is linear up to a load of 3.92 N, has a hysteresis of 1%, and has a response time of 4 ms. The force is measured at distances of 8 mm (channel 1) and 14 mm (channel 2) from the tip of the nipple. In the measurement system, the sensor signals are converted (A/D) at a sampling rate of 100 Hz and a quantization resolution of 10 bits. After the A/D conversion, the force signals are transferred to a data indicator and a data logger for real-time display on an LCD and for storage ona micro SD card, respectively. Using this system, we performed measurements on four infants. A signal peak was observed from channel 2 and then from channel 1. This result could be attributable to the peristaltic movements of the infant's tongue. The same result was observed for all subjects. These results indicate that the proposed system can be used to measure any force that is applied to an artificial nipple. Moreover, the mother of a subject also performed measurements using the system. This confirmed that the system was easy to operate and that measurements could be performed in a normal feeding posture.

"Tacuinum Sanitatis (in Medicina)" is the medievalhealth handbook which contains the informationof healthy alimentation etc., translated from themedical book written by the eleventh centuryphysician named Ibn Butlan (Abu al-Hasan al-MukhtarIbn al-Hasan Ibn 'Abdun Ibn Sa'dunIbn Butlan) in Arabic. He explained elementsthat are necessary for everybody in dailypreservation of his health in the form of simpletables, and then the book was called "Taqwim al-Sihha.The Latin term "Tacuinum" is derived from"Taqwim" which means tables.We cannot say the date and the place of translationinto Latin, but at least there was Latinversion in Kingdom of Sicily in the thirteenthcentury. Neither original works of Ibn Butlanin Arabic nor did earlier manuscripts of translationin Latin have illuminated pictures. Butwe can find some illuminated manuscripts of"Tacuinum Sanitaits" in the later Middle Ages, mainlydrawn up in Northern Italy.As the primary step of the research on TacuinumSanitatis, here are sketched features and datesof some illuminated manuscripts of TacuinumSanitatis : codex vindobonensis series nova 2644,Osterreichische Nationalbibliothek, Wien; ms.4182,Biblioteca Casanatense, Roma (of which title is"Theatrum Sanitatis"); ms.Nouvelle Acquisitions latines1673, Bibliotheque Nationale de France, Paris;ms.1041, Bibliotheque de l'Universite de Liege;ms.3054 (anciently Leber, 1088), Bibliothe queMunicipale Rouen.The earliest manuscript might be ms.1673 ofParis, which had belonged to Verde, daughterof Bernabe) Visconti, "signore" of Milan (13541385).The second one seems to be ms.1041 ofLiege in 1370s attributed to Giovannino deGrassi, master of the cathdral of Milan andfamous drawer of sketch book of Bergamo. Themost famous manuscript, ms.2644 of Vienna wasdemanded by Archibishop of Trent in 1390s,though it also had the coat of arms of the Cerrutiof Verona. The circumstances of completationof ms.4182 of Rome is obsure, but the similarityof ms. 4182 of Rome and ms.2644 of Vienna showsus that these two codex were made at the workshopsof close relationships. The codex of ms.3054 of Rouen might be made in the fifteenthcentury.The original "Taqwim al-Sihha" has 280 items,but those illuminated manuscripts generally haveless. The items treated are mostly alimentary:fruits, vegetables, herbs, corns, beans, pains,birds, animals, fishes, wines, oils etc. thoughseasons, winds, actions and sentiments are alsoreferred. Every page has only one largeillumination and some medical explanations onthe item. The red-framed pictures are drawn toindicate not only the objects but also scenesrelated, so they vividly image the ordinary livesin later Middle Ages.

During the late 1970s, the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) experienced a notable regime change, manifested by a change in amplitude, dominant ENSO period, and sea surface temperature anomaly (SSTA) propagation characteristics. The present study shows that these features of the ENSO regime change are associated with property changes of the canonical ENSO, i.e., cold-tongue (CT) type ENSO. Another signature of the ENSO regime change is manifested in the frequent occurrence of a warm-pool (WP) type ENSO that accompanies SSTAs centered over the central Pacific near the WP edge and exhibits characteristics differing from those of the CT ENSO. The distinct manifestations of the two types of ENSO detected in this ENSO regime change are clearly identifiable with the removal of the strong background decadal signal. Since the late 1970s, the WP ENSO has featured a weak eastward (westward) propagation of the SSTA center in the developing (decaying) phase, which makes no net contribution to the observed eastward propagation, and a 2-3 yr period compared to the 4-5 yr period of the CT ENSO. Observations strongly suggest that the WP and CT ENSO are independent quasi-biennial and quasi-quadrennial modes, respectively, of the tropical Pacific climate variability. Our observations also suggest that these two ENSO modes have coexisted actively since the late 1970s when either El Niño or La Niña can be separated into the two types.

2012 年 10 月 PC 遠隔操作事件が発覚し,それに伴う冤罪も明らかになった.今回のような犯罪の場合でも,犯行者のホストの真の IP アドレスが分かれば,真犯人を特定できる可能性が高い.本稿では,(1) コネクション開始時, TCP のように 3 ウェイ・ハンドシェーキングを必ず行うこと, (2) OS のカーネルは (1) をチェックすること, (3) 受け取ったデータパケットに対して必ず確認応答を返すこと, (4) OS のカーネルは (3) をチェックすること, (5) 身に覚えのない確認応答を受け取ったホストは警告パケットを必ず返すこと,を提案し, IP レベルでのなりすましのできない安全なインターネットの実現を目指す.
