Equine canker is a chronic pododermatitis of the hoof in horses. Although spirochetes are detectable histopathologically in the lesions, the precise etiology remains unclear. This study reports the 16S rRNA gene sequencing of randomly selected clones based on PCR with Treponema-specific primers, using the canker lesions from two horses and healthy frog and sole from a horse. A total of 114 clones were obtained from the lesions, but no clones were detected in the healthy hoof tissues. The clones from the canker lesions examined were grouped into 19 operational taxonomic units, such as treponemal phylotypes originating from papillomatous digital dermatitis lesions of dairy cattle and as-yet uncultured human oral treponemes, indicating the presence of multiple treponemes in the lesions.

The paper describes clinical and pathological features of Alexander's disease (AD)-like disorder in a 1 year and 8 months old French bulldog. Clinically, the dog exhibited megaesophagus, emaciation and weakness without any specific neurological symptoms. The dog died of aspiration pneumonia. On the gross observation of formalin-fixed brain, discolored foci were observed in the white matter of the cerebellum and brain stem. Histologically, numerous Rothenthal fibers and hypertrophic astrocytes were distributed especially in the perivascular, subependymal and subpial area of both the cerebrum and cerebellum. The Rosenthal fibers were intensely immunopositive for GFAP and ubiquitin. Demyelination of the white matter was occasionally found in the brain stem. The present case is likely to be categorized in the adult form of AD, though previous AD-like cases in dogs were in the juvenile form.

自然界の統一理論の最有力候補である超弦理論は,異なる様相を持った理論間をつなぐ「双対性」と呼ばれる性質を梃子として,1995年頃から新たな飛躍的発展段階に入った.この新時代のパラダイム的役割を果たしているのが,「M理論」と呼ばれる超弦理論自体の統一の構図である.本稿では,この謎めいた名称を冠された,まだ未発達ではあるが野心的な理論の生誕と現状,及びその将来的課題を解説する.

In recent years, the importance of demonstrating one's own achievements has increased signi.cant-ly. Most noticeably, the number of research articles that survives rigorous peer reviews is frequently being used as an index to measure eligibility for an academic position or research grant. Therefore, almost all of researchers often find themselves being pressured to write academic papers. On the other hand, writing academic papers can be quite di.cult for those who have never written them. This article provides a brief tutorial for writing academic papers in Japanese language. However, there already are some good manuals which explain writing paper such as Tsuzuki (2006) or Rosnow & Rosnow (2006). Therefore I wish to demonstrate how to write academic papers in Japanese language based on my own experiences. This article consists of two parts. The first one describes how to write academic papers for each section of an article, namely “purpose” “method” “result” and “discussion”. The second part presents comprehensive strategies in writing academic papers.

Where is "Northeast Asia" located in the world? The answers to that question are different by the disciplines or interests of the scholars at least in Japan. For instance, historians on premodern Asia recognize "Northeast Asia" as a historical cultural zone of the Tungus people. It covers East Siberia, Russian Far East, Northeastern China and Korea. The group of cultural anthropologists, linguists and archaeologists refer "Northeast Asia" to the living area of Palaeo-Siberian people in Siberia. The researchers of international relations, using the regional concept of "Northeast Asia", are discussing today's political issues and their international environment in Korean Peninsula. Moreover, in Japanese, there are two words for "Northeast Asia"; Tohoku Ajia (East-North Asia) and Hokuto Ajia (North-East Asia). Although the name of "Northeast Asia" has been used since the end of 19^<th> century in Russian works, it would be rare for English speaking people to use the words. At first stage, it showed the northeastern part of "Asiatic Russia". In 1931-41, when Robert Kerner founded the Northeast Asian Seminar in University of California, Berkeley, he intended to combine Russian studies with East Asian studies and put a new point of view to "Northeast Asia". In his understanding of "Northeast Asia", that words means "frontier" region between Russia, China and Japan. In the USA after the Second World War, among most of Asian researchers, "Northeast Asia" includes Korea and Japan, while "East Asia" means the wide area between China, Korea and Japan. In Japan, until 1945, a few anthropologists as like Torii Ryuzo utilized the words on their articles, introducing ethnic relations in East Siberia. Since 1950s, Mikami Tsuguo started to use the words for explaining the activities of the Tungus in the ancient time instead of the word Man-Sen (Manchuria and Korea). In 1951, just before the San Francisco Peace Conference, the end of Occupation time, Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, following the example of the Office of Northeast Asian Affairs in the USA's Department of States, organized Department of Northeast Asia. The Office of Northeast Asian Affairs in the USA takes cares of South Korea, Japan and Republican China, anti-Communist states in East Asia, while the Department of Northeast Asia in Japan covers all the Korean issues including North Korean. Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs avoided using the name of Department of Korea for political consideration, because there are two words for Korea, Chosen and Kankoku, in the Japanese. The words "Southeast Asia" has been also popularized over the world since 1945, and well recognized where that words indicate the area. However, in the case of "Northeast Asia" there is no consensus of indicating which range on the world map among the writers.

本研究の目的は、拡散過程X(t)のと関数fが与えられた時に期待値E[f(X(T))]の値を数値的に求める問題(弱近似問題)を、楠岡近似と呼ばれる新しい近似手法によって解決する方法を確立することであった。楠岡の研究により楠岡近似は既存の近似手法である、Euler-丸山近似に比して非常に少ない次元の数値積分によって近似を実現することが可能であることが示されていた。積分次元はMonte Carlo法を用いる限りにおいては、計算量に対して中立的であるので劇的な高速化は期待出来ない。しかし、quasi-Monte Carlo法は積分次元が小さくなると非常に高速になることが知られている。これらの事実から楠岡近似をquasi-Monte Carlo法と組み合わせることにより計算の高速化が期待されるが、現実の問題に適用する為には以下の様な未解決の問題が在った。1.汎用的な楠岡近似オペレータの構成の困難2.楠岡近似にquasi-Monte Carlo法を適用する方法の確立3.現実の問題に適用しての実証例の不在本研究は全ての問題を解決することに成功した。1.に関しては、本研究の開始時点に於いては計算機による記号計算によりオペレータを記号的に求めてそれを計算機上のプログラムに変換するというアプローチを考えていたが本研究で記号計算を経ずに常微分方程式の数値解法を用いる方法が発見された。これにより、非常に汎用性の高いプログラムライブラリが可能となるので、楠岡近似の実用化については決定的な成果であると考えられる。更にこの方法は、高次元正規分布とBernoulli列によって実現されるのでquasi-Monte Carlo法が自然に適用可能である為、2.も同時に解決している。3.については、この新しいアルゴリズムをファイナンスの問題に適用し、800倍という驚異的な高速化を実現した。

In the present study, impact force measurements and biomechanical analysis were carried out during the KERI (kicking) of SHORINJI-KEMPO. The impact force and kinetic parameters were measured by using the proposed impact force measuring device with strain gages, accelerometer and three-dimensional rate gyro sensors. Furthermore, the force of pivot leg was measured by a 6 degree-of-freedom force sensor, and the movements of KERI-ASHI (moving leg during KERI motion) were measured by using accelerometer. The trained SHORTNJI-KEMPO players showed the larger impact force in contrast to that for un-trained players. The impact force was affected by the pivot leg movements. It is important to increase the impact force that the player supports the body with the toe side and the inside of the pivot leg and the body is stabilized by the large reaction force of pivot foot when the player starts the KERI motion.

海岸部に立地する鉄筋コンクリート橋における上部工の形状が、飛来塩分の付着量に及ぼす影響を、実験的に検討した。すなわち、寸法および凹凸に相違を設けた4種類の供試体を、人工飛来塩分発生装置や人工降雨装置に暴露し、付着した塩分量を測定・比較した。その結果、上部工底面の凹部への巻き込み現象や上部工側面の雨水による洗浄効果に着目して、最も塩分が付着する部位を解明できた。
