The living style of the Rengashi Sogi, who drifted through Japan, is considered to be deeply related to his birth which is generally believed to be lowly. But there is no definite information to prove his birth as lowly. I will try to present a new approach to his birth, which I think was a warrior family, by studying the connected articles in Kodaiji Diary-Shiokawa Kashin Diary volume II(property of Naikaku Bunko).

During the growth of an ice sheet the continental crust beneath and near the ice sheet subsides, while in the decay period of glacier ice the crust is unloaded and rebounds. The process is called glacio-isostasy. The volume of sea water decreases during ice growth, while it increases during ice decay. The changing water load causes the vertical movement of the oceanic crust. The process is referred to as hydro-isostasy. These two processes combined are involved in glacio-hydro isostasy, i.e., the Earth's response to changes in ice and water loading during glacial cycle. The outline of a model for glacio-hydro isostasy is described and an application of the model to the northwestern Kyushu area is briefly introduced.

Higher-level (mental, sociological and biological, etc.) entities are said to be supervenient on more basic, lower-level (physical, micro-level) entities, and there is a view that lower-level theories can completely and sufficiently explain higher-level events. But Harold Kincaid criticizes such a view. He does not deny that lower-level theories do explain something, but argues that they are only partial and incomplete, because they cannot refer to higher-level kinds which supervene on the relevant lower-level entities and answer important questions about causal laws. I will argue that the completeness or sufficiency of explanation is often evaluated interest-relatively, and, against Kincaid, that higher-level explanation cannot be sufficient without mentioning lower-level causal mechanism.

密度行列繰り込み群(DMRG)の正体は、「密度行列より導かれる精密な数値変分法」です。変分法というと、「基底波動関数の形を物理的直感に基づいて独断と偏見で定める」ような職人芸的な方法…に聞こえますが、DMRGは「計算対象に最適な変分関数を自動生成する」という点で従来の数値変分法とは一線を画しています。この解説記事では、DMRGの細かな計算手続きよりも、その基本原理に目を向けることにします。「密度行列」繰り込み群という名前の由来や、DMRGの背後にある変分原理について、一緒に考えましょう。
