The clamping force of a bolted joint is usually controlled by torque or angle at tightening. However the fatigue failure of bolted joints occures if the clamping force is loosened in service. Therefore the clamping force in service after tightening must be checked to avoid failure of bolted joints. In this study, a new method to detect the clamping force of bolted joints after tightening has been proposed, in which the clamping force is detected by pulling the protruding thread of the bolt through the nut on a bolted joint. The relationship between the pulling force and the displacement at the pulling point is measured to detect the apparent spring constant of the bolt. When the pulling force reaches the clamping force of bolted joint, the apparent spring constant varies markedly. Thus the clamping force of the bolted joint can be defined on the basis of the variation of the apparent spring onstant. The basic theory and the experimental verifications are presented.

石炭はマセラルと呼ばれる顕微鏡で区別できる要素と鉱物で構成される.各マセラルはそれぞれが植物の異なる成分に由来し,また堆積後も異なる反応を受けているため,その化学的性質は石炭の成因やその反応特性に対し重要な知見を与える.そこで本研究では,減衰全反射顕微赤外分光(μATR-IR)法によって,石炭マセラル組織の赤外イメージング測定を試みた.その結果,従来の正反射顕微赤外分光法よりも高空間分解能(<10µm)のイメージを得ることに成功した.

各種化合物半導体多層薄膜から作製されたLEDや半導体レーザといった半導体発光デバイスは,現在,社会,産業,家庭における様々なシステムや機器に搭載されている.このような発光デバイスは,機器への不適切な実装や過酷な条件での使用などで劣化し,機器やシステムの不具合や障害,事故の原因となる.そこで,本稿では,赤色・赤外デバイスを中心とした発光デバイスの種々の劣化モードについて,劣化メカニズム,解析事例,及び抑制方法について解説する.

In order to establish a low-input alternative production system based on cover crops, the effectiveness of hairy vetch (Vicia villosa Roth; HV) incorporated as a basal nitrogen fertilizer and its effects on soil carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) content in fresh-market tomato production in plastic high tunnel was investigated in Sapporo (snow cover region), Japan. The treatments consisted of HV seeding rates (HV2, 2 kg/10 a; HV5, 5 kg/10 a) and ammonium sulfate (AS10, 10 kg N/10 a) applied as basal N fertilizers, and the Non HV (control) with no HV and ammonium sulfate. In all plots, 15 kg N/10 a were added before tomato transplanting as a controlled-release fertilizer (LPS100 41%−N) to maintain the tomato growth in the mid and late stages. HV aboveground biomass (dry weight) was 585 kg/10 a in HV2 and 719 kg/10 a in HV5. Nitrate in petiole sap was higher in HV2, HV5, and AS10 plots than in Non HV plots throughout the cultivation period with the exception of the first 2 weeks after transplanting (WAT). The Growth index (GI) was higher in HV2 (47971), HV5 (46285), and AS10 (43397) than in Non HV (39847) at 7 WAT, the beginning of the harvest. Higher marketable yields were found in tomatoes grown in HV2 (6.87 t/10 a), HV5 (6.91 t/10 a), and AS10 (6.08 t/10 a), compared with the Non HV (5.19 t/10 a). The HV plots had greater soil total and organic N than AS10 and Non HV, and slightly increased soil C after tomato production. From these results, the HV seeding rate of 2 kg/10 a will be enough to support the growth of tomatoes planted after HV production if HV grows steadily in a plastic high tunnel.

Tomato plants in greenhouse production are often confronted with light insufficiency in the lower canopy, especially in the winter low irradiation season. In this study, periodic alteration of plant density (PD) was proposed to improve the light environment of plants’ lower canopies, leaf photosynthesis, plant growth, and fruit development. These were investigated with winter cultivated tomatoes in a single-truss production system. Seedlings were transplanted to either movable or fixed cultivation benches for treatments with fixed PDs of 14.3 plants·m−2 (F14.3), and 10 plants·m−2 (F10), and unfixed PDs in a movable bench (MB; 25 plants·m−2 after transplanting to anthesis, 16.6 plants·m−2 at anthesis to initial fruit set, 12.5 plants·m−2 at fruit set to mature green, and 11.1 plants·m−2 at mature green to red-ripe). The leaf photosynthesis rates in MB and F10 were generally significantly higher than in F14.3. F14.3 had the tallest stems, but the lowest leaf area and shoot dry weight at end of experiment, while MB and F10 were not significantly different. MB had significantly the highest total yield, while the lowest data were observed in F10. The soluble solids content was increased in MB and F10 compared with F14.3, but no significant differences in ascorbic acid content or fruit hardness were observed among treatments. Therefore, a high PD in the vegetative stage, but a relatively lower PD in the fruit development stage, was highly efficient in intensive tomato cultivation.

本研究の目的は,愛着理論における愛着機能に焦点を当てた,愛着機能尺度(Attachment-Function Scale; AFS)を作成することである。AFSは,「安全基地」,「安全な避難所」,「近接性の維持」を下位概念と設定し,全15項目からなる尺度を構成した。本尺度を大学生246名に実施し,探索的因子分析をしたところ,上記の3因子が抽出され,確証的因子分析においても高い適合度が示された。また,α係数においても高い信頼性が示された。相関分析の結果から,愛着尺度であるECR-GOとの関連が示され,孤独感や絶望感とも負の相関が示された。これらの結果から,AFSは,内的作業モデルにおける「自己モデル」と「他者モデル」,および社会的適応性と関連する尺度であると考えられた。したがって,AFSは愛着理論における愛着機能を測定する尺度であると考えられ,AFSの信頼性と妥当性の一部が確認された。

Metazosulfuron is a novel sulfonylurea herbicide discovered and developed by Nissan Chemical Industries, Ltd., which exhibits excellent herbicidal activity against Echinochloa spp., annual and perennial weeds including sulfonylurea resistant biotypes in paddy fields at 60–120 g a.i./ha with good crop safety to rice. In addition, it has favorable toxicological, ecotoxicological and environmental profile. Metazosulfuron (trade name; Altair®) was registered and launched in Japan in 2013, and has been also introduced in Korea and China as of 2016. This paper describes a history of discovery, syntheses, herbicidal characteristics and crop safety of metazosulfuron.

Neuronal cellular accumulation of amyloid beta peptide (Aβ) has been implicated in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Intracellular accumulation of Aβ42, a toxic form of Aβ, was observed as an early event in AD patients. However, its contribution and the cellular mechanism of cell death remained unclear. We herein revealed the mechanism by which Aβ42 incorporated into cells leads to cell death by using chemically synthesized Aβ42 variants. The Aβ42 variant Aβ42 (E22P) which has an increased tendency to oligomerize, accumulated in lysosomes at an earlier stage than wild-type Aβ42, leading to higher ROS production and lysosomal membrane oxidation, and resulting in cell death. On the other hand, Aβ42 (E22V), which is incapable of oligomerization, did not accumulate in cells or affect the cell viability. Moreover, intracellular localization of EGFP-Galectin-3, a β-galactoside binding lectin, showed that accumulation of oligomerized Aβ42 in lysosomes caused lysosomal membrane permeabilization (LMP). Overexpression of lysosome-localized LAMP1-fused peroxiredoxin 1 and treatment with U18866A, an inhibitor of cholesterol export from lysosomes that causes an increase in lysosomal membrane stability, attenuated Aβ42-mediated LMP and cell death. Our findings show that lysosomal ROS generation by toxic conformer of Aβ led to cell death via LMP, and suggest that these events are potential targets for AD prevention. This paper chronicles and reflects upon the experiences gathered from a design workshop conducted at Chiba University, with students from Chiba University, Köln International School of Design and with the support of Fujitsu. During the workshop, participants were invited to continuously build and prototype their ideas, rather than following the conventional design process of idea generation, visualization and, only at a later stage, prototyping. Such a hands-on approach proved beneficial in the communication among participants as well as in simplifying the design process. In fact, by working on quick and approximate prototypes, participants could more easily express their ideas overcoming language barriers and visual representation skills. Furthermore, physical prototypes helped participants to identify the key aspects of their proposals and focus on those. Finally, those prototypes also served as useful props to enact the experience of using the proposed artefacts and services.
