The extensional properties and the stress-relaxation properties of representative round and square braids were studied by changing yarn species. Silk, promix and vinylon yarns were used as the materials. Maximum load, Young's modulus, work, energy loss and resilience of the round braids were lower than those of the square ones. Difference between both braids in the recovery percentage was not found. The extensional properties except for the recovery percentage and the resilience differed more or less depending on the yarn species. As the results of the stressrelaxation experiments, the rheological properties of the braids were found to be represented by a parallel combination of three Maxwell models and an elastic moment. Much differences were found between the rheological parameters of the round and square braids. The yarn species gave a pronounced difference in the relaxation time rather than in the other parameters, such as viscosity and elasticity. These results were discussed in terms of the spatial inadaptability of yarn bundles and of the rheological properties of the material yarns.

The author once presented a theory about Kenji Miyazawa's poem, "Sapporo-shi (Sapporo City)". He proposed that the stage of this poem is Sapporo (not Hanamaki) : Nish 6-chome, Odori, Sapporo City. He pointed out that this address is the very site of "elm square to commemorate the cultivation". He was recently given an opportunity to describe the reasons or grounds of his theory. These are described in this article.

This paper focuses on how the wartime conditions in Hollywood influenced the development of Hollywood musicals and other films during 1939-1945. The goal is to foreground a historical process in which the musicals had been incorporating the different ideologies of the times,by tracting the relationships between the studios and the political and the economical situations. Under the strong influence of the F.D.Roosevelt's Administration, the Office of War Information attempted to imbue the movies with its political ideas by distributing the Govenment Information Manual for the Motion Picture Industry to the studios. Since the OWI had no power over censorship,the studios ignored the manual. However after mid-1943 when the OWI established a coalition with the Office of Censorship, the studios suddenly became compliant, and more films were molded into what the OWI required: the propaganda of Americanism. In such a circumstance,the musicals had been considered as a mere-trivial-escapist-entertainment among the OWI and the studios. Nonetheless, it is impossible to disregard the changes of the wartime musicals. The musicals also interwove the politically different ideologies with their conventional formars, and could be functioning as the powerful propaganda during the war by reproducting the utopian images of Americanism.

Two specimens of Trichiurus sp. 2 sensu Nakabo, 2000 were collected from eastern Sagami Bay, southern Japan, in November 2012 and January 2017. These specimens represent the first records from Sagami Bay, and the northernmost records for the species. The occurrence of T. sp. 2 from Sagami Bay in winter is attributed to transportation by the warm Kuroshio Current in summer or autumn, and suggests that survivability is affected by the development of a body of warm water.

光電極を用いた水分解による水素製造法は二酸化炭素をほとんど副生せずに太陽光エネルギーを水素に変換するための方法であり、その活用が期待されている。しかし、光電極に用いる光触媒に関する研究は盛んに行われている一方、反応器に関する研究はほとんどなされていない。そこで本研究では、光電極による水素製造装置を設計することを目的とした。反応器において高効率な反応を達成するためには、反応器の構造パラメータを反応に対して適切に決定する必要がある。このような反応器の最適設計問題に対して、流体シミュレーションが有効な手段の一つとなる。しかし、流体の流れが反応に有利な状態を形成するように反応器の構造を決定するためには、多くのシミュレーション回数が要求される。特に一回当たりの計算時間が長いシミュレーションを用いる場合、その高い計算コストが障害となる。そこで本研究では、シミュレーション結果を統計解析し、構築した統計モデル(メタモデル)を利用する事でシミュレーション回数を抑制しながら反応器の最適設計を行うことを試みた。本研究で解析の対象である光電極による水素製造装置は、効率的な反応を達成するために最適化を行うべき応答因子が複数存在し、それぞれの因子がトレードオフの関係にあるという特徴を持っている。そのため、反応に有利な構造パラメータを決定する事は困難と考えられていた。しかし、メタモデルの構築と遺伝的アルゴリズムによる多目的最適化により、100回の流体シミュレーションから構造パラメータのパレート最適解を導出した。またこの解析により、統計手法による流体シミュレーションの反応器設計への効率的な適用の可能性を示した。

It is pointed out that the chewing operation is strongly related to one's health and development of brain cells. But our chewing number is decreasing recently, especially for children. We are requested to make a counting system of the chewing number by a dentist.We consider three methods for counting the chewing number using small pressure sensors, i.e., metal strain gage and semiconductor pressure sensor. The first one is the chin-strap detection method in which the system detects the small expansion of the chin strap with strain gages when one chews food. The second is the ear-plug detection method using a strain gage or a semiconductor pressure sensor. In this method, the small strain of the ear-plug is detected by these sensors. The last one is the head detection method in which the system detects the small expansion of the temporal muscle using the head-band with a semiconductor pressure sensor. These systems also can detect the chewing power.Comparing these methods, it is made clear that the head-band detection method has the best performance and its system can be used easily when one chews food. Its miscount is about 1.3 to 3.1[%] depending on food, and the circuit of this system can be put inside user's pocket.
