In collaboration with otologists and psychotherapists, psychotherapy was performed together with the administration of drugs for patients with Meniere's disease in whom medical treatment, surgical treatment, or intratympanic streptomycin therapy had been ineffective and for a patient with intractable tinnitus. We report in detail 7 patients for whom psychotherapy was effective for vertigo, stabilization of hearing fluctuation, or the acceptance of tinnitus.<BR>It is important to consider psychosomatic aspects in the treatment of patients with Meniere's disease, and it was possible to avoid unnecessary surgery in some Meniere's disease patients using a combination of psychotherapy with medication.

Ongoing research has generated many important lines of the model liverwort Marchantia polymorpha, including mutants and transgenic lines. To maintain these lines, researchers typically spend a lot of time and effort periodically replanting thalli (e.g., every month). To avoid this routine maintenance, researchers have developed methods for cryopreservation of dried and frozen gemmae. In this study, we developed a culture-based method for preserving gemmalings and thalli without encapsulation, drying, or freezing. The method requires only tissue culture on agar medium supplemented with sucrose in the dark at regular temperature (22°C). These culture conditions severely inhibit growth of gemmalings and thalli; however, these tissues remained alive after more than 1 year of storage. Survival rate of tissues using this method was 100% in all tests. This method thus enables preservation of gemmaling and thallus cultures on medium under regular temperature conditions, thereby relieving researchers of labor-intensive routine maintenance.

世界初の「ディープラーニング技術を用いて言語生成し会話する家庭用コミュニケーションロボット」として認定された自律型会話ロボット Romi とその技術について紹介する.本稿では Romi の紹介と全体的な技術要素の構成の説明を行い, Romi の主要な2つの会話エンジンである ScenarioGraph と Cooper について説明する.ScenarioGraph はルールベースの会話を行うエンジンで主に天気予報を聞くなど機能的な会話に使用され, グラフで表現された会話ルールに従って会話を行う. Cooper は Romi のおよそ9割の会話を担う Transformer ベースの会話エンジンであり, Encoder 部分と Decoder 部分を統合することで比較的小さなサイズのモデルでも高品質な会話を短いレスポンスタイムで行えるよう工夫されたモデルである.しかし,このようなシステムのペルソナは初めに設定されたもので固定されており,事前に設定されたプロファイルから自動的に更新することができない.例えば,条件づけられていないペルソナについての質問がシステムに入力された場合には,システムが新たなペルソナを含んだ発話を生成する可能性がある.そのため,システムが一貫した対話を行うにはこのような新たなペルソナも考慮する必要がある.そこで本研究では,ペルソナ対話システムが発話履歴に応じて自身のペルソナを自動で更新するという新たな問題設定を考え,これを実現するために,ペルソナ追加機構を持つペルソナ対話システムを提案し,その際に起こりうる問題の影響の調査を行った."

居留地貿易体制の撤廃以後, 当時の日本は中国を含むアジアで直輸出取引の拡大をめざした。しかし, その地域では一般的な通商情報といえども広く流布しておらず個々の輸出業者が簡単に情報を収集できる情況ではなかった。農商務省は実業家や経済団体による海外視察を実施し, 商品陳列館の設置や「海外実業練習生」制度を構築して貿易情報収集の拠点とし, あわせて外務省の在外領事館網を活用して情報(「領事報告」)を収集した。 本論文は1910年ごろにまとめられた「輸出市場調査」と「輸出商品荷造法」に関する二つの報告書をとりあげ, 情報収集とその取りまとめに外務省系列と農商務省系列の情報収集網がどのように関っていたかを検討し, あわせて報告書の持つ意義について考察した。 (英文) After the abolition of the Settlement Trade system, Japan strived to expand direct export transactions with China and other parts of Asia. Common trade information was not widely distributed in that region; however, individual exporters could not easily gather this information. The Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce implemented overseas tours by businessmen and economic organizations, established commercial exhibition galleries and constructed an "Overseas business trainee" system as the basis for gathering trade information. At the same time, it gathered information in "Consular Reports" using the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' network of overseas consuls. In this paper, we looked at two reports compiled in 1910 related to "Export Market Surveys" and "Export Product Packing Methods." We studied the relationship between information gathering and the information gathering networks affiliated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce, and examined the meaning and implications of these reports.

現在、次世代の衛星放送である高度BSデジタル放送が検討されており、4Kや8Kの映像フォーマットなど、現行放送よりさらに高品質な映像サービスの実現が期待されている。この放送を実現し、新たなビジネスモデルを展開するためには、著作権保護とアクセス制御機能を提供するCAS(Conditional Access System)が必要である。CASは、暗号技術によりコンテンツをスクランブル化し、その復号鍵である視聴ライセンスを受信契約者のみに配送することで、著作権保護とアクセス制御を実現する。高度BSデジタル放送は、高品質な映像音声を提供する基幹メディアであるため、CASに対する海賊行為が多発することが予想される。そのため、高品質な映像サービスを提供する高度BSデジタル放送用のCASにおいては、さらなるセキュリティ強度の向上を重視したCAS技術が必要不可欠である。今回、高品質な映像サービスを提供する高度BSデジタル放送用のCASの要求条件を示し、それを満足するダウンローダブルCASを開発した。試作したFPGAベースのダウンローダブルCAS機能検証装置により、その実現性を実証した。

[Purpose] This study reports the effects of the Muslim prayer, known as Salat, on heart rate (HR) and blood pressure (BP) while performing and miming the actions of Salat: standing, bowing, prostrating and sitting. [Subjects] Thirty Muslim subjects were asked to perform the actual and mime Salat. [Methods] HR and BP were measured using a Schiller AT-102 Electrocardiograph and an Omron SEM-1 Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor. [Results] The findings revealed that there was a significant difference in the HR of the subjects between performing and miming Salat. The standing and prostration positions of Salat produced the highest and the lowest HR, respectively. A lower HR may be of potential benefit to an individual’s health. The systolic and the diastolic BP decreased significantly after performance and mime of Salat, and a greater reduction in BP was observed during performance of Salat. [Conclusion] This is the first study of HR and BP in relation to Salat positions. The findings will encourage further studies to explore the benefits of Salat maneuvers for patients with cardiovascular diseases.

北陸電力(株)七尾大田火力発電所2号機において,排煙脱硫装置GGH熱回収器の差圧上昇および排煙脱硫装置GGH再加熱器の腐食が発生した。原因は,いずれも排煙脱硝装置触媒の劣化によるものであった。今回,行った調査内容とその対応について紹介する。

Ten years ago, about 40 species of spiders were recorded from the apple or chard by the senior author, while engaged in a study of the effects of spray programs on pest population and beneficial organisms (HUKUSIMA, 1961). Of these collections Misumenops tricuspidatuswas considered first as an important predator of orchard pests, because of its universal occurrence and frequent abundance. But almost nothing is known of the bionomics of this species up to date. From an economic side, at present, the first thing to do in analysing the property of the hunting spider as regulating agents in orchards is to know some aspects of life histories and habits.Based on the field survey, M. tricuspidatus hibernates in various instars of nymphal period and adult stage from November among the ground cover of fallen leaves and dead herbaceous plants, but adults or larger immature stages are the most case which is frequently observed during winter in orchards. As the season advanced, overwintered adults and immatures leave their hibernation qua ters on warm days in following early March, and rest on the trunks and branches of fruit tree. Meanwhile, the peaks of seasonal occurrences were formed over 3 times, on mid-April, early July early August and mid-October.According to the observations in a insectary, the mating takes place mostly in the daytime without food intake except particular case. At the time of oviposition, the female builds a crude nest by tying two or more overlapping leaves together and constructs the lenticular egg-sac within it. Thus the 1st egg-sacs were produced on late May early July, and next during the period from late August to early October. In this case, the number of eggs per egg-sac varied with different seasons, and an average of 163.1 and 87.7 eggs per egg-sac was counted corresponding with above seasons respectively.M. tricuspidatus mostly feed on living organisms like other spider species, but under the fasting condition they sometimes utilize the dead arthropods. Such a habit would servefor the recovery from exhaustion by hunger. In contrast to male behavior, the feeding activity of females does not become weak after they reached adulthood, but 7 times of male meal per day were consumed when prey was supplied in suitable number. The daily food consumption of immature stages, as a rule, increases keenly about 2 days after moulting, and also adult females tend to increase their foods just after the final moulting and mating.With regard to the number of moults, all individuals reared did not moult in the same number, but they moulted 5 to 9 times after leaving the egg-sac. In this context, it is well known fact that the number of moults necessary for maturity in many species of spiders is somewhat variable, and may be increased under unfavorable conditions. This assumption would seem easily to admit in the present case. Namely the phenomenon that the number of moults in M. tricuspidatus increases under the lower rearing temperature and with the decrease of food supply, was clearly evidenced. Further this tendency strongly appeared in the females than in the males.Already as a few case was mentioned, a considerable variation of life histories and habits under different temperature conditions is thought to be worthy of notice. As might be expected, within 25-30°C the duration of each instar shortened with increasing temperature, and at the same time much more foods were consumed at higher temperature condition, though the feeding intensity was not necessarily indicated in the same pattern between males and females. On the other hand, the number of egg-sacs per female was somewhat more under 25°C, and the rate of hatching was also higher than that under 30°C.

Fruit of the Chinese tallow-tree Sapium sebiferum have white sarcocarp and dehiscence in autumn. The sarcocarp dries on the branch soon after the dehiscence. We observed eight bird species eating the fruit of S. sebiferum. Two species of crows Corvus corone and C. macrorhynchos, the Grey Starling Sturnus cineraceus and the Brown-eared Bulbul Hypsipetes amaurotis swallowed the fruit and excreted the seeds. The Tree Sparrow Passer montanus, the Great Tit Parus major and the Oriental Greenfinch Carduelis sinica took only a small part of the sarcocarp and left the seeds on the branch.The Turtle Dove Streptopelia orientalis took a lot of fruits and digested the seeds.The Tree Sparrow, the Great Tit, the Oriental Greenfinch, and the Turtle Dove are not seed dispersers, but a kind of seed parasite or predator.

We propose a new idea for the crustal movements associated with past great Nankai earthquakes in Shikoku and the surrounding region, Southwest Japan. This study makes clear that the movements are not due to the oblique subduction of the Philippine sea plate, but due to superposition of strong seismic shaking to the uppermost crust in a compressional stress state in the E-W direction. The ground of this idea is as follows: at the time of the 1707, 1854 and 1946 Nankai earthquakes the Kochi plain subsided and the Muroto and Ashizuri peninsulas uplifted, whereas old documents show that the Kochi plain did not subside at the time of the 1605 Nankai earthquake and therefore no uplifting of the peninsulas is inferred because it is based on a set of subsidence of the Kochi plain and uplifting of the Muroto peninsula appearing at the time of the 1707, 1854 and 1946 Nankai earthquakes. This is explained by the reason why the 1605 (Keicho) earthquake was not accompanied with strong shaking of the ground owing to the tsunami earthquake. Next, because the uplifted peninsulas have anticline axes of the N-S direction, from unconsistency in stress direction it is difficult to attribute the uplifting to the subduction in the NW direction of the Philippine sea plate. On the other hand, it is easily explained that the uplifting was caused by the stress in the EW direction enhanced by strong seismic shaking. Tosa bay, which spreads between the Muroto and Ashizuri peninsulas, is characterized by depression. To be able to explain this depression is not by the elastic rebound theory, but by our idea. The undulation in the forearc zone composed of anticlines (peninsulas) and wide depressions (bays), which range alternately along the Japan island arc, can not also explained by the elastic rebound theory. In addition, we consider that the compressional strain variation in the NW direction of the ground surface observed at present in Shikoku does not result from the oblique subduction in the NW direction of the Philippine sea plate, but it is recovering the overdisplacement of the ground surface caused by the coseismic movement (2-3m at the ground surface) in the SE direction of the Muroto promontory by reverse faulting of the 1946 earthquake. Moreover, this study shows that unconsistency in directions of P axes between the 1946 Nankai earthquake and mantle earthquakes presently occurring in Shikoku and its vicinity is succesfully explained by taking account of constraint of the displacement in the direction along the Japan island arc.
