We overview progress in quantum dot (QD) lasers, emphasizing the advantage of the QD lasers for application to laser processing technology. Recent advances in our development of the QD lasers toward high quantum efficiency and high out power at the NEDO project are also discussed.

As the personification of the ultimate truth, Mahavairocana (the Great Sun) cannot be perceived. He is symbolized by gestures, sounds and geometric figures. Buddhist tantrism is the system of attaining buddhahood by using these symbols. The Japanese, however, are not interested in becoming buddhas. They only try to remove troubles in this world, and wish to go to a paradise called "gokuraku" after death. It is for this purpose that they chant the komyo-shingon addressed to Dainichi-nyorai, the Japanese version of Mahavairocana.

耳鼻咽喉科診療への内視鏡ビデオシステムの導入は, 局所の詳細な観察, 画像の保存が可能になるなど, メリットが多い。 しかし一方では, カメラや光源の導入コスト, 機材の大きさ, 煩雑なケーブルの取り回しなどが欠点となっている。 モニターや操作用のダイヤルなどを一切省いたユニークなレンズ交換式の汎用デジタルカメラ (Olympus AIR A01®) は小型軽量で, 撮影条件の設定や画像の確認などは, 無線で接続されたスマートフォンやタブレット端末で行うのが特徴である。 これに iPad Pro®, バッテリー LED 光源を組み合わせて, 安価で小型の無線接続内視鏡ビデオシステムを構築し, 鼓膜, 鼻副鼻腔の観察と記録, さらには内視鏡下の処置と小手術に応用して, 2年間にわたってその有用性と安全性について検証した。 当システムは小型軽量でケーブルが不要でモニターも自由に移動でき, 耳内や鼻副鼻腔の観察と記録のみならず, 内視鏡下の処置や小手術も安全, 確実に行うことが可能であった。 また, リアルタイムで iPad Pro® に表示されるストリーミングビデオ, 記録された画像ともに高品位であった。

大腿骨頚部骨折に対しHannson pin を用いた骨接合術術後に,大腿骨転子下骨折を生じた2例を経験した.症例1は74歳女性.Hannson pin により大腿骨頚部内側骨折骨接合術を行い術後7日目に転倒し,遠位ピン刺入部で骨折を認め,Hannson pin を抜去しEnder 釘による骨接合術を施行した.症例2は42歳男性.Hannson pin による骨接合術を行い,術後6週にトイレでかがんだ際に大腿部痛を自覚し,遠位ピン刺入部で骨折を認めた.Hannson pin を抜去しEnder 釘による骨接合術を再度施行した.症例1では骨脆弱性が基盤にあり,転倒によりHannson pin 刺入部の大腿骨外側骨皮質欠損部に外力が集中し,転子下骨折が生じたと考えられた.症例2では股関節屈曲時に,腸腰筋収縮による応力がHannson pin 刺入部およびガイドピン打ち直しにより生じた大腿骨外側骨皮質の骨脆弱部に集中し,骨折したと考えられた.Hannson pin による骨接合術では,刺入部の大腿骨外側骨皮質の強度を低下させる原因となるガイドピンの打ち直しを避ける必要があると考えられた.また,骨粗鬆症の程度が強い症例では荷重を遅らせるなどの術後リハビリテーションの工夫が必要であると思われた.

This paper aimed to clarify factors influencing environmental conflict occurrence during the planning stage for wind farm projects in Japan. After studying conflict occurrence situations and the main conflict issues for 155 large-scale projects across Japan, we focused on both physical and social factors as explanatory variables and applied a quantitative method using binary logistic regression analysis. The main findings were: (1) environmental conflicts had occurred in 59 projects as of May 2012 and the main issues could be classified as noise/infrasound, sediment- related disaster/hydrology, landscape, nature destruction and birds (esp. raptors); (2) turbine number and size were influential factors as structural aspects, while there was no significant association between proximity to turbines and conflict occurrence; (3) sites located within natural parks, national protection forests, sediment-related disaster hazardous areas and wildlife protection areas designated by relevant acts and ordinances showed higher conflict occurrence, and proximity to such areas could be influential as well; (4) habitats for Golden Eagle, Mountain Hawk Eagle, White-tailed Eagle and Steller's Sea Eagle significantly encouraged conflict; (5) in terms of social aspects at both the national and prefectural level, conflict occurrence was strongly associated with the existence of past conflict experiences and complaints about noise and/or infrasound generated by operating wind farms.

オキシトシンによって自閉スペクトラム症の中核症状が治療できるようになることが期待されている。しかし,単回投与ではこれまで一貫して改善効果が認められる一方,反復投与では報告が一貫しなかった。その理由として,オキシトシンを反復投与すると効果が変化することが疑われたが,自閉スペクトラム症の症状を繰り返して評価できるような客観的な方法がなかったため,この疑問を確かめることができなかった。著者らの最近の研究では,対人場面に現れる表情を定量的に解析して評価項目とし,自閉スペクトラム症に関連した表情の特徴がオキシトシンの投与で改善されることについて再現性をもって示すことに成功した。さらにこの改善効果は時間とともに変化することを示し,この経時変化のメカニズムに関する知見とともに,オキシトシンによる自閉スペクトラム症の治療が最適化され開発が進むことが期待されている。本稿ではこの研究成果について概説した。
