放射線は極微の世界から無限の宇宙まで走りまわり, そこで起っている現場の情報をとらえる. 放射線にとらえられた情報の解読は, 人類に千里眼的超能力を与え, 今世紀の目覚ましい物理学の発展の原動力となった. 1930年代には放射線を使って生命の支配的因子"遺伝子"の謎を解こうという研究が真剣になされ, それはE. Schrodingerの名著「生命とは何か」を生むに到った. この小冊子は, やがて誕生する分子生物学の強力な推進力となった. 本稿では, この歴史的発端をふりかえりつつ, その後の研究の発展を紹介する.

This research examined the influence of expectation on the association between emotional-support-seeking behavior and support evaluation in adolescence. In Study 1, 500 secondary-school students completed an anonymous survey, and five emotional-support expectations; acceptance-, reinterpretation-, justification-, optimism-, and distraction-expectation were detected for developing the emotional-support-expectation scale. The sample of Study 2 consisted of 1,007 secondary-school students who completed an anonymous survey that asked their stressor in the past month, support-seeking behaviors, emotional-support expectations, and support evaluation. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis indicated that frequent emotional-support-seeking behavior expects higher “perception of support from others” in the case of the reinterpretation expectation was high. Although emotional-support-seeking behavior showed direct influence only “perception of support from others” out of four support evaluations, reinterpretation expectation effected on “problem-solving” and “perception of support from others”, and also justification expectation effected on “confusion”. This result indicated that the effect of expectations on support evaluation. The necessity of longitudinal examination, consideration regarding the interaction between support seeker and supporter, and verification of adaptive change were discussed as future implications.

This paper reports preliminary experimental results of shock wave/ water droplets interaction phenomena related to shock wave pressure attenuation. Water droplets were generated by dropping from a several needle pipes, were interacted with micro-explosive-induced shock wave. The process of induced spherical shock wave/ water droplets interaction phenomena was visualized by shadowgraph method and recorded by a high-speed camera. The pressure histories of propagated shock wave interacting with water droplets were measured simultaneously by using the pressure transducer. High-speed shadowgraph sequential images show that interacted water droplets were highly deformed, and a wave front of a secondary shock wave was decayed. The simultaneously measured pressure history shows that a primary shock wave peak pressure was attenuated with interacting at water droplets, and a peak pressure ratio was decreased.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS), such as hydroxyl and superoxide anion radicals, are highly reactive molecules derived from the metabolism of oxygen. ROS play positive roles in cell physiology, but they may also damage cell membranes and DNA, inducing oxidation that causes membrane lipid peroxidation and decreases membrane fluidity. Soymilk yogurt, which is soymilk fermented using lactic acid bacteria (LAB), is an excellent food item with numerous functional substances with antioxidant effects. In this study, the antioxidative activities of soymilk yogurt were investigated. Sixteen of the 26 tested LAB strains solidified soymilk. In antioxidant capacity tests for bacterial cells, Leuconostoc mesenteroides MYU 60 and Pediococcus pentosaceus MYU 759 showed the highest values in the oxygen radical antioxidant capacity (ORAC) and hydroxyl radical antioxidant capacity (HORAC) tests, respectively. The supernatant of soymilk yogurt made with Lactobacillus gasseri MYU 1 showed the highest ORAC and HORAC values. L. mesenteroides MYU 60, Lactobacillus plantarum MYU 74, Lactobacillus reuteri MYU 220, and P. pentosaceus MYU 759 showed significantly high N-acetylcysteine equivalent values compared with the control in a total ROS reducing assay (p<0.05). These strains were selected, and a comet assay was performed, which exhibited decreased values in all selected strains compared with the control, indicating DNA protection. An acidic exopolysaccharide produced by P. pentosaceus MYU 759 showed high antioxidant capacity. The antioxidant substances produced by LAB fermentation may be exopolysaccharides, antioxidant peptides, and isoflavone aglycones. Soymilk yogurt can be used as a functional food useful for various diseases related to oxidation.

“The parable of the sparrow” is indicated by the word “nirgrantha-srava-ka-cataka-vat” in the ninth chapter of the Abhidharmakosa-bhasya (AKBh). The commentary on this word by Yasomitra forms one story that contains a question and an answer. It is similar to one of Aesop's Fables called “κακοπραγμον”which means “an evil doer.” This seems not have been identified among the Buddhist canons. The interpretation of “avyakrta” in this chapter is examined by referring to this story.In this story, the evil doer is a questioner. The section that includes the word in the AKBh discusses “avyakrta.” The Buddha is reported to have not expressed an opinion on a series of questions such as “Is the world eternal ” Relying on this, the Vatsiputriyas insist on “avaktavya.” They don't state whether an individual (pudgala) is exactly the same as elements (skandha).The point of the critique by Vasubandhu (the author of AKBh) is taking “prastur asaya” (the intentio n of the questioner) as the reason for “avyakrta”. Therefore, if a questioner does not have “asaya,” those questions should be answered. The parable of the sparrow is quoted to emphasize “asaya.”
