喫煙と歯周病や口腔がんとの関連はよく知られているが,生活習慣と関連が深い歯の喪失についての研究はきわめて少ない。本調査は,喫煙習慣および口腔保健行動と歯の喪失との関連について5年間のコホート調査を行うことを目的とした。対象は某銀行の従業員の男性129人とし, 1992年から5年間追跡調査した。その結果,20〜39歳群の喫煙者は一人平均0.40歯喪失歯が増加し,非喫煙者の0.13歯に比べて多い値であった(p<0.01)。40〜59歳群では,喫煙者は0.75歯,非喫煙者は0.51歯と多い傾向を示したが有意な差はみられなかった。口腔保健行動と歯の喪失との関連をみると,40〜59歳群ではかかりつけの歯科医院のある者に歯の喪失する者の割合が高かった(p<0.05)。さらに,単純ロジスティック回帰分析を行った結果,20〜39歳群では喫煙習慣が歯の喪失に有意な関連を示し(p<0.001),オッズ比は8.08(信頼区間1.83〜35.72)であった。以上の結果から,20〜39歳群の若年成人では,喫煙習慣が歯の喪失に強く関連していることおよびコホート調査の重要性が示された。

To increase the noise proof performance of a cover with aperture excited by diffuse acoustic fields from the outside, it is a problem to prevent the occurrence of the inner acoustic mode at the lower frequencies. Authors had suggested the feed forward active noise control (ANC) for the acoustic field inside the cover. Diffuse acoustic field excitation experiment using reverberant room has been examined to comprehend acoustic characteristics inside the cover. The results show that the inner cover field is in the state of locally coherent at the frequencies of inner acoustic mode, so that it is good environment for the active noise control. Then, a calculation with two-dimensional finite difference time domain (FDTD) method has been done to examine the feasibility of feed forward ANC. The results show that it is possible to realize ANC for the acoustic field inside the cover by proper design of control filter. Finally, experimental measurement of diffuse acoustic field excitation in the reverberant room has been done again to examine the ANC with the design method mentioned above. The results show that feed forward ANC can reduce noise level by 5dB at the peak frequency caused by the inner acoustic mode. Furthermore, the inner acoustic pressure distribution is also reduced uniformly at the frequency. Therefore, it is concluded that it is possible to realize feed forward active noise control for the acoustic field inside the cover with aperture excited by diffuse acoustic fields from the outside, even if the excitation is random or the causality of I/O is not satisfied.

This paper presents a system that consists of three robots to imitate the motion of top volleyball blockers. In a volleyball match, in order to score by spiking, it is essential to improve the hitting percentage of each spiker. To increase the hitting percentage, iterative spiking training with actual blockers is required. Therefore, in this study, a block machine system was developed that can be continuously used in an actual practice field to improve attack practice. This robot performs high speed movement on 9 m rails that are arranged in parallel with the volleyball net. In addition, an application with a graphical user interface to enable a coach to manipulate these robots was developed. It enables the coach to control block motions and change the parameters such as the robots' positions and operation timing. Through practical use in the practice field, the effectiveness of this system was confirmed. In this paper, we describe the effectiveness to players through utilization of the system in actual practice. In addition, we clarify the improvement points exposed at that time, propose and construct a sensor system and describe its evaluation and future possibilities.

Until the 1980s, adolescent culture in Japan was, for the most part, a student subculture, formed in school and differentiated in relation to students' attitudes toward school. However, in the 1990s this tendency weakened. During this period : (1) Adolescent culture strengthened its character as youth culture in relation to the mass-consumption society and the media ; (2) Adolescents' interests shifted from the society, or their status within it, to their inner selves or the human relationships around them ; and (3) Establishing an identity became more difficult and adolescents' identities showed a tendency to diffuse. These changes were caused by schooling and the society surrounding it. Schooling came to emphasize the instant satisfaction and individuality of students rather than their future accomplishments or conformity (This can be described as the "Consumerization of Schooling"). Moreover, it was becoming more difficult for students to realize the merit of schooling, because of the universalization of higher education. As a result, school became just a "place of living, " where students spent long periods of time. As for the society outside school, adolescents were celebrated as independent consumers in the mass-consumption society. On the other hand, with the progress and spread of personal media such as cell-phones, the Internet and e-mail, it became easier for adolescents not only to greatly expand their relationships, but also to have several characters and to present any of them depending upon the context. Consequently, the basis of adolescence and adolescent culture was greatly weakened. This is bound to make the purpose and meaning of schooling more ambiguous in the twenty-first century.

We have developed an artificial skin that mimics the morphological and mechanical properties of human skin. The artificial skin comprises a polyurethane block possessing a microscopically rough surface. We evaluated the tactile sensations when skin-care cream was applied to the artificial skin. Many subjects perceived smooth, moist, and soft feels during the application process. Cluster analysis showed that these characteristic tactile feels are similar to those when skin-care cream is applied to real human skin. Contact angle analysis showed that an oil droplet spread smoothly on the artificial skin surface, which occurred because there were many grooves several hundred micrometers in width on the skin surface. In addition, when the skin-care cream was applied, the change in frictional force during the dynamic friction process increased. These wetting and frictional properties are important factors controlling the similarity of artificial skin to real human skin.
