While enjoying music and other works of art, people sometimes experience “chills,” a strong emotional response characterized by a sensation of goose bumps or shivers. Such experiences differ from having goose bumps as a defense response or from shivering in reaction to cold temperatures. The current paper presents the phenomenon of music-induced chills and reviews the chill-related emotional response, autonomic nervous system activity, and brain activity. It also reviews the musico-acoustic features, listening contexts, and individual differences that cause chills. Based on the review, we propose a hypothetical model regarding the evocation of music-induced chills. Furthermore, we investigate the strong emotional response associated with chills by exploring the relationship between music-related chills and non-music-related chills, and discuss future research directions.

The purpose of this study is to discuss the validity of junior high school districts as the basis for setting official senior care service areas. The results of a survey of one hundred and seventy-five (175) senior people show that the actual living spheres of elderly people match, on average, two or three elementary school districts and that local organizations take responsibility in these elementary school districts. Therefore, it can be argued that junior high school districts are meaningful as the standard for official care service area settings, because they are group units of a few elementary school districts.

音楽の印象における歌詞の影響を定量的に検討した研究は数少なく、これまでの研究では、歌詞における意味内容と声質や歌い方を混同して歌詞の影響を測っている。本研究は、歌詞の言語の意味内容が認知できない演奏音と文字で書かれたその歌詞の邦訳を用いることで歌詞における意味内容と声質や歌い方を区別し、歌詞の意味内容が演奏音の印象に影響を与えるかを定量的に検討することを目的として実験を行った。演奏音と歌詞の意味内容の印象がかけ離れた作品2つを刺激とし、同一の参加者が3条件(演奏音のみ呈示、歌詞のみ呈示、演奏音+歌詞呈示)で実験を行い印象を測定した。実験の結果、両作品において演奏音+歌詞の印象は、歌詞よりも演奏音に近い印象を示すという傾向があった。したがって、本研究で用いたような作品の印象において、歌詞の意味内容という論理情報が及ぼす影響は弱く、演奏音という感性情報が及ぼす影響が強いということが示唆された。

本論文は,音楽聴取時の自律神経反応についてレビューし,特に用いられることの多い心拍数(HR)の測定と分析について概説したものである。音楽聴取時の自律神経系反応は,音楽の持つ感情価の覚醒次元に関連して変化する。刺激的な音楽では交感神経活動が活性化し,鎮静的な音楽では副交感神経活動が活性化する傾向にある。また鳥肌感といった強い感情には交感神経活動が関係している。音楽聴取研究で用いられることの多い自律神経系指標であるHR は,反応水準や時系列変化,心拍変動(HRV)による分析がなされている。本論文では,特にHRV の周波数領域解析と時間領域解析の指標化について概説した。研究の目的に応じて指標を選択し,分析することが大切である。

A new functional food-labeling system was implemented in 2015. Food products with new functional information are expected to increase along the increase of health awareness in Japan. However, it is difficult for ordinal consumers to understand each functional component of food. When descriptions on food include scientific information,people often misunderstand or excessively expect about a new function. This research investigated how understanding the information of foods was correlated with individual’s cognitive traits conducting a web-based survey using a fictional news report based on real research to two groups, ordinal consumers group and specific occupations group that supposed to have high recognition degree of new functional food-labeling system. We also used three cognitive indices, the cognitive reflection test, numeracy and graph literacy, to investigate the influence of cognitive traits on reading comprehension and interpretation. The results revealed that graph literacy was correlated with understanding and that the other two indices were correlated with psychological factors of interpretation though there was no group difference.

近年、音楽の社会心理学的研究が比較的盛んに行われている。しかしながら、それらの研究のほとんどは、日常聴取される多くの音楽に含まれている歌詞について十分に考慮していない。本研究は、日常の音楽聴取における歌詞の役割について検討を行った。131 名の学生・社会人が質問紙に回答した。質問紙は、歌詞に関する音楽聴取傾向の項目、Juslin & Laukka(2004)を参考にした音楽と感情に関わる項目およびRentfrow & Gosling(2003)のSTOMP による音楽の好みについての項目から構成された。調査の結果、歌詞は多くの人に重要視されており、その理由は歌詞に感情移入するためであることが示された。また、歌詞は情動を喚起するのに重要な役割を担うこと、聞きやすく軽快な音楽を好んで聴取する人に重要視されていることが示唆された。これらの結果から、音楽聴取において歌詞は欠かすことのできない要素であると考えられた。
