Recently, the garbage littering problem is widely pointed. From the long term point of view provisions against littering are necessary not only in soft side but also in hard side. In this study we defined strength which littering is caused, as “Poisute Potential (=PP)” and tried to analyse the spatial distribution characteristic especially about cigarette butt. We examined the influential factor to such as crossing, shop entrance and street furniture. From this analysis, we can say that centralization and the reduction of the littering garbage should be able to be expected by proper installation of street furniture.

Using GPGPU, we developed a method to calculate the solid angle of landscape elements with an omnidirectional field of vision, via intersection detection. We confirmed that the processing speed was approximately 500 times faster than the processing speed achieved using a single CPU. Furthermore, the developed method was applied for the calculation of the omnidirectional green visibility of models with randomly arranged trees. Thus, the relationship between the shape and number of trees and the omnidirectional green visibility was analyzed statistically. These results can be considered as an index of the green visibility rate when planning the arrangement of trees.

Railway foot bridge at stations is one of the station structures for use of passengers. Although it is a universal railway structure in Japan, its historical development is poorly understood until now. This paper describes the history of railway foot bridges on the Tokaido Line based on historical records and drawings in the Meiji era. As the results of this survey, the diffusion process from large stations to local stations, and the standardization process in the end of the Meiji era have become clear.

The first purpose of this research is to comprehend the actual state of commute to elementary school in a group and adults’ neighborhood watch activities, the second purpose of this research is to gain data for considering about necessary requirement for carrying on the activities. It is necessary for volunteers’ continues activities that they boost exchanges in the community, and they advertise the effect including the improvement of their fear against crime their activities, and volunteers know each other better than they do now, and they create fabric to fulfill the above-described requirement.

The purpose of this research is analyzing basic function and its involvement on development project of Historic Gateway Neighborhood Corporation in Cleveland as an local development corporation, and considering how it encourages a project. As a result, 5 basic functions are become clear that design planning, design review, adopting a tax abatement program, making a district plan and voluntarily works. And 3 points became clear as a technique; 1) Assist a fund-raising by combining use of tax abatement and rehabilitating a historical building. 2) Make a preliminary design in place of the property owners and developers. 3) Work for the solution of a district specific problem by making continuous cooperation with the same developer.

In this paper, the safety margin of seismically isolated buildings (SIBs) is probabilistically evaluated using Incremental Dynamic Analysis (IDA), and the effect of laminated rubber bearing’s hardening characteristics on the safety margin of SIBs is also verified quantitatively. As a result, since the non-consideration of hardening characteristics overestimates the safety margin, it is important to consider the hardening characteristics in the evaluation of superstructure’s safety margin. Also, tendency of the safety margin probabilistically evaluated by IDA under numbers of actual ground motions is showing high consistency with tendency of that under general design ground motions.

In this paper, we conducted a sketch map survey of two attributes with and without land knowledge to understand the characteristics of the city image created using a map application. Through the analysis of the sketch maps, it became clear that the use of map applications is effective in creating city images for users without land knowledge. In addition, we found that the formation of city images through app use was influenced by (1) the image before using the app, (2) the usage of application functions, and (3) the time of use using the app.

In this study, 10-year outdoor exposure test was conducted to confirm the durability of bamboo reinforced concrete exposed for a long period of time. Concrete specimens with the same composition and bamboo reinforced concrete members with the same shape and reinforcement were placed in the outdoor and underground environment for 10 years. The strength tests of these specimens were carried out at the 1st month, 3rd month, and 10th years. The results of examining the effects of differences in environmental conditions on the quality of concrete, the corrosion of bamboo reinforcement, and the aging deterioration are described.

This research focuses on the social contact in urban spaces as a possible protective factor against the development of loneliness. We conducted an online questionnaire survey focusing on going-out activities, especially those for leisure purposes, which previous studies have suggested might be correlated with loneliness, and examined their association with it. Through web-based questionnaire survey and following text mining analysis, it was clarified that it is important for the senior citizens to go out in urban spaces, enjoy leisure time, and interact with others so that they can avoid feeling lonely.

The authors suggest a novel detection method for ceiling damage using image differencing and Grad-CAM. The proposed method requires the latest image and the past image of the facility to compare. It adjusts the difference due to camera position, sunlight condition, etc. The authors show validity of this method showing four pairs of input images. The proposed method can appropriately detect damaged areas with better accuracy for facility inspection by narrowing the areas of inspection using image differencing and Grad-CAM procedures.

In energy saving operation of buildings, it is important to understand the energy consumption characteristics of university campuses in order to formulate specific energy saving plans. Due to COVID-19 expansion, it is assumed that infection prevention measures such as behavior change of students and ventilation are affecting the energy consumption characteristics. It is necessary to understand the energy consumption characteristics that have changed from the conventional ones. In this study, we analyzed energy consumption data on Meiji university campuses for the three years from 2019 to 2021. we clarify the energy consumption characteristics that have changed due to COVID-19 expansion.

In order to clarify indoor climate in a crawl space after flooding, long-term experiment using a test house was performed. A second-story test house was constructed in a campus of Akita Prefectural University in 2003. In this experiment two rooms on the first floor of the test house and crawl spaces were used. Tap-water was supplied to 100mm depth on a crawl space in each room, and after 72 hours it drained. In this paper, indoor humidity and water contents of wood and concrete in a crawl space were analyzed from the view point of moisture balance in a crawl space after flooding.

This research aims to clarify historical background and actual state of shoe change system in elementary school buildings in Japan. Most of them, students spend wearing shoes for indoor use like Japanese house where people remove their shoes and change into slippers. There are different rules depending on schools. Our questionnaire survey data collected from elementary schools thorough board of education made clear that how to change of shoes are influenced by the site conditions, environmental factors, regional culture and changes in hygiene measures at the floor of toilet. These are design and utilization considerations of elementary school buildings in Japan.

This study presents a methodology that considers design as common resource in the field of architectural design. The purpose of this report is to verify the outputs and outcomes of MOKU-CHIN RECIPE, a design tool for revitalizing private rental housing. In this report, all the renovation ideas of MOKU-CHIN RECIPE are listed, and 70 cases of renovations are analyzed and interviews are conducted. In conclusion, it is clear that MOKU-CHIN RECIPE is a resource with its purpose and effect clearly recognized, and a resource that allows for a variety of creativity through the acquisition of knowledge and skills.

Why “street smoking” is so controversial in cities, Tokyo? Residents have been suffered from butts of cigarette and danger of burn. Considering these situations, all cities in Tokyo have introduced code which restricts street smoking. However, the detailed contents of the code vary according to the condition of each city. Chiyoda City is the first city which fine smoking on the street, not only while walking but also while standing or sitting. On the other hand, the city has been subsidizing private sectors to set smoking spaces inside building and so on. This case study, we overlooked the codes for clean community then discussed the issues on current situation regarding street smoking and possibilities for coexistence among the various senses of value in public space in cities.

Akita Senboku earthquake of 1914, which was an inland earthquake with magnitude 7.1, caused 94 fatalities and 640 collapsed houses. The authors has been continuing literature surveys on this disaster and clarified from the damage distribution to the correspondence to the damage recovery by local governments in Akita prefecture. In the process of gathering archived documents we newly found a photograph album which was published just after the earthquake. In this study, a literature survey on photographic materials was performed and gathered materials were classified and listed in a table. Typical disaster features can be shown through these photographs.

This paper describes a study on Japanese public bathhouses (Sento) in Kumamoto City as an example of a regional city. This research was conducted using field surveys and hearings from owners of public bathhouses and local government.Kumamoto City had 141 public bathhouses in 1976, but only 19 in 2006. The layouts of these public bathhouses changed along with advances in facilities and the owners' desire to increase the number of visitors. However, the numbers of public bathhouse owners and visitors are decreasing, and the age of both is increasing. Changes in society influence the function of public bathhouses.

The purpose of this paper is to examine the actual use of fumarole gas fixtures in Takenoyu and Tsuetate areas, Kumamoto Prefecture; Kannawa area, Oita Prefecture; and Unagi area, Kagoshima Prefecture. Some features were discovered by conducting field investigations, interviews and questionnaires for residents in each area. The variety of geothermal energy potential and appearance causes the difference of fumarole gas use and expansion process of these areas. Investigating some features of the actual use of fumarole gas fixtures is useful for creating the low environmental load and high-quality living environments.

In the current laws and ordinances, the matter to accommodate the tuberculosis patient who is an airborne infectious disease is not exhibited. In this study, we discussed the building standard of the medical institution which accommodate tuberculosis patient, for the purpose of showing recommendations. The medical institution to accommodate tuberculosis patients needs to keep building facilities corresponding to the airborne infection, and it is necessary to perform use based on the latest scientific evidences.
