Although the intake of carbohydrates is important for the supplementation of energy substrate utilized during exercise, fat oxidation is possibly prevented by an elevation of insulin, and whether or not the timing of the intake of meals affects energy metabolism during exercise has not been clarified. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the timing of the intake of meals taken at different times before exercise on the carbohydrate and fat metabolism during aerobic exercise. The subjects were eight young trained athletes who performed cycling exercise at the lactate threshold (LT) intensity for 60 min. They performed under five conditions consisting of a no-meal (water) trial, and four meal trials that had a normal meal at 1, 2, 3, and 4 h before the exercise. There were no significant changes for any trial in respiratory exchange ratio, or carbohydrate or fat oxidation rates during exercise. The serum insulin level before exercise in the meal trials was more elevated, the shorter the time to the start of the exercise from meal intake. A tendency for higher blood glucose was shown during exercise with a shorter interval time in the meal trials. No alterations were demonstrated for the serum free fatty acids in any of the groups. These results showed that the timing of the pre-exercise meal taken within a 4-h period before exercise did not affect the energy metabolism of the trained subjects during exercise at LT intensity.

2010年11月現在、一国の独立を決める住民投票を控え、南部スーダンの住民の間では徐々に期待と緊張が高まってきている。度重なる内戦や平和構築、今回の住民投票を含む民主化への動きなどさまざまな出来事を経験してきたナイロート系牧畜民ヌエル(Nuer)の一部の人々の間では、それらの出来事はある予言者によってかつてなされた予言が「成就」したものであると語られてきた。本論の目的は、ヌエル社会において人々の歴史観や未来観と不可分に結びついてきた「予言の成就」に関する語りに注目し、新たな歴史的出来事を通じて刷新され続ける予言のリアリティのあり方について考察することである。本論では予言や予言者を取り巻く周囲の人々の語りが、各々の経験や偶然的な出来事を組み込みながら、特定の語りの要素を結節点としてゆるやかな「原因」と「結果」の関係で結ばれ、複数の人々にとって「真」たりうるストーリーとして重層性を帯びてゆく様相を明らかにする。

本研究では、モンゴル国における土地法制をめぐる諸問題を法社会学的な観点から研究することにより、モンゴル国の土地をめぐる紛争と環境破壊の防止に貢献することを目指した。日本国内で研究会・シンポジウムを開催するとともに、都市・牧地・定着過程にある牧地・農地・鉱山の5つの研究班による現地調査を実施し、その調査結果をモンゴル国で開催した研究成果報告会で報告した。この調査結果は高く評価され、モンゴル鉱物資源法改正のための参考資料としてモンゴル国会にも提出された。

表現型可塑性は生物が環境の変化に対して示す適応的反応であり、理論的にも適応進化できることが報告されている。この場合、自然淘汰は、個々の表現型ではなく反応基準を標的としているのである。しかし、表現型可塑性を適応進化させる生態的・環境的条件の実証的研究結果が十分にそろっているとはいい難い。本稿では、この問題について、北海道に生息する有尾両生類エゾサンショウウオ幼生の可塑的形態「頭でっかち型」を題材に議論を進め、表現型可塑性について、分野横断的(生態学的・生理学・内分泌学的)なアプローチも紹介する。

主張型レポートの作成能力の必要性は増加しており,この能力を高めるための学習環境の構築は重要といえる.本研究では,学習者がこの能力を高めるためのアプローチとしてライティング活動におけるテキストの問題構築的読解に注目した.直感的・感情的思考が問題発見に寄与するという心理学・認知科学・神経科学の知見を踏まえ,こうした思考をライティング学習に応用するための学習環境の構築は有用といえる.そこでWeb上のテキストの下線・コメント(マーキング)と感情タグの付与を可能にするEMU(Emotional and Motivational Underliner)を開発した.そして,EMUの感情タグが問題構築的読解に与える影響を実験により検討し,それらの機能が学習者による問題構築的読解を促し,結果として気づいた問題点に基づく主張型レポートの作成につながることが示唆された.

Today, science is passing through an era of transformation, where the inundation of data, dubbed data deluge is influencing the decision making process. The science is driven by the data and is being termed as data science. In this internet age, the volume of the data has grown up to petabytes, and this large, complex, structured or unstructured, and heterogeneous data in the form of “Big Data” has gained significant attention. The rapid pace of data growth through various disparate sources, especially social media such as Facebook, has seriously challenged the data analytic capabilities of traditional relational databases. The velocity of the expansion of the amount of data gives rise to a complete paradigm shift in how new age data is processed. Confidence in the data engineering of the existing data processing systems is gradually fading whereas the capabilities of the new techniques for capturing, storing, visualizing, and analyzing data are evolving. In this review paper, we discuss some of the modern Big Data models that are leading contributors in the NoSQL era and claim to address Big Data challenges in reliable and efficient ways. Also, we take the potential of Big Data into consideration and try to reshape the original operationaloriented definition of “Big Science” (Furner, 2003) into a new data-driven definition and rephrase it as “The science that deals with Big Data is Big Science.”
