The causes of drowning must dictate especially what we teach, content, and to a lesser degree, how we teach. Therefore, an project was conducted among Japanese university students in order to explore the relationship between swimming competency, students estimates of their competency, and their perception of the risk of drowning. Sixty five males and 48 females university physical education students enrolled at three institutions were the subjects of the study. The questionnaire consisted of a) perception of their ability, b) perception of their ability to perform these in open water and c) their perception of risk in five specific scenarios. Practical tests consist of seven aquatic skills. No significant differences were found in actual swimming-related abilities between male and female students, although more females than males did not complete the tests of: dive entry into pool (female 23%; male 11%), surface dive to 2m (female 33%; male 19%), and 100m swim on back (female 28%; male 9%). Similarly, no differences were found in self-estimated swimming abilities by gender. More females than males estimated higher risk of drowning for each of the 5 drowning scenarios that students were asked to estimate the personal degree of risk. This study found that male students tend to underestimate the potential dangers in the risk of drowning.

Electric Vehicles (EVs) have been introduced into the car market but its application has been limited to town use owing to mainly poor battery performance. Superior battery storage energy and power density are required for present systems to be considered for wider range of use. Compared with the well used EV/HEV battery Nickel Metal Hydride and others Lithium-ion battery has superior performance but is only widely used in electrical devices. Lithium-ion battery technology is rarely used in EV/HEVs because of the severe environment of the vehicles. This paper will show the improvements made to overcome this hurdle and present the public road test results of EV propulsion applications of this technology.

本論文では,既存のスケジューラシステムがかかえる問題を解消するため,ユーザが自由に使用できる時間である「空き時間」の概念を導入したタスク・スケジュール管理,タスクの階層構造と実行順序関係からなる「タスク間関係」に基づいたタスク管理の2 つの手法を提案した.そして,2 つの提案手法の機能を付加したスケジューラシステム「タイムラインナビ」を設計・実装し,提案手法の有用性を評価するための実験を行った.その結果,空き時間表示がユーザのスケジューリングを効率的かつ容易にし,タスク間関係に対応したタスク管理が,かかえているタスクの現在の状態をより把握しやすくすることが分かった.In general scheduler systems, tasks and schedules are managed independently though they are actually related. So it is difficult for users to notice that their scheduling is overbooked. In addition, users cannot explicitly grasp a state of their tasks, such as a progress of each task because they have no chance to know such state with the scheduler systems. In order to solve these problems, we propose a task-and-schedule management method based on the amount of free time and a task management method based on the relationship among tasks. Furthermore a scheduler system with the proposed methods, named "Time Line Navi", was implemented and evaluated experimentally. The results show that the free time is useful for the user's scheduling and the relationship among tasks enable users to manage tasks clearly and effectively.
