The attitudes towards adzuki beans and adzuki bean-based food was analyzed through an online survey targeted at Japanese consumers. 300 samples were collected, and the results were compared with the images of other beans.Compared to soy beans, almonds or walnuts, the healthful image of adzuki beans was not well recognized. In regards to nutritional function, the adzuki bean was underestimated despite its useful nutritional content such as polyphenol, dietary fibers and proteins. The results seem to be affected by the “sweet snack” image of adzuki bean paste, the most popular adzuki bean-based food in Japan. In conclusion, this survey suggests that an innovative adzuki bean-based food, a non-sweet snack for example, may be required in order to raise the healthful image of adzuki beans. Further, the key consumers of such a food could be middle-aged women, who tend to have a stronger interest in healthful food.

El Sistema, or “the system,” is an orchestra movement financially supported by the government of Venezuela. The movement has garnered praise for the education and musical training it provides, and it has also garnered praise for protecting children who live in dangerous areas and for the music education programs it conducts in correctional facilities. The current study evaluates how joining an orchestra and playing classical music corrects the behavior of juvenile delinquents and adult offenders in prison. Findings indicate that rigorous training, cooperation, and responsibility foster self-esteem, teamwork, and social skills. Moreover, public performances and applause from friends and family encourage confidence and pride. These benefits facilitate a subsequent return to and reintegration into the community. These findings suggest that correctional education requires affirming aspects as well as rehabilitative aspects, such as encouraging reflection and/or restitution.

Focusing on the relationship between the preferred shape and the aspect ratio, we selected the face as an example of shape and examined the relationship between the preferred face and the facial aspect ratio, based on the hairstyle. We carried out this examination with about 1000 participants in Japan and the West respectively. To determine the aspect ratio of the face, we classified the hairstyle into three types: The hairstyle that revealed the forehead; the hairstyle that concealed the forehead with the front hair dangling; the hairstyle with the front hair divided. These three hairstyles are classified as the elongated face, the not elongated face, and the middle elongated face respectively. As a result, we found that the middle elongated face is favored by about 40 percent of participants and is the most favored of the three hairstyles, statistically. The elongated face and the not elongated face were also each favored both by about 30 percent of participants. Comparing the results that show that a square rectangle is most favored statistically, we found that the preferred aspect ratio of shapes is different between rectangles and faces.Conversely, in the West, we found that the elongated face is favored by more than 90 percent of participants; the results of which are similar to the results that show that a golden rectangle is relatively favored in a rectangle case.

Yoshinao Nakada (composer) and Jun’ichi Kobayashi (poet) are editors of GENDAI KODOMONO-UTA MEIKYOKU ZENSHU (Masterpieces of Japanese Contemporary Children Song) (2nd Edition). They put 11 pieces of collaborative works in the album. The 9 pieces of those include onomatopoeia in a text. I analyzed all of them, and found the following characters about their way of expression of onomatopoeia : 1) Plural poetry includes the onomatopoeia in a title. 2) Plural poetry completes the last of the stanza clause in onomatopoeia. 3) Dynamics marks (of music) emphasize onomatopoeia. 4) The most high-pitched tone of the melody is set on onomatopoeia. 5) Articulation (staccato in particular) is added to onomatopoeia. 6) Onomatopoeia serve a function of an image of the whole music.

Jinkôin is a Shingon sect temple located in the Kita ward of Kyoto. Kamo Yoshihisa, the head priest of the Kamo-wake-ikazuchi Shrine, established the temple at the beginning of the 13th century. The author conducted a survey of the Standing Image of Jizô Bosatsu at the temple in October 2010. This article presents the basic data on this previously little-known work. The survey revealed that there are inscriptions next to the right foot and left foot of the figure. The inscription includes the priest’s name, Chôyô, and the date 1312 (Shôwa 1), thus clarifying the date of production and the name of the person involved in its creation. Further, nine small wooden standing images of Jizô fell from the split edges of the image’s construct, and other small wooden images of bodhisattvas were found in the sculpture’s interior. Judging from the sculptural style, this work is thought to have been carved by an Inpa school sculptor and is an extremely important example of the basic Inpa school style of Buddhist images created at the end of the Kamakura period. During Japan’s medieval period it was common for Buddhist stupas and sutra storage areas to be built inside Shinto shrine compounds and for the Shinto deities and Buddhist gods to be worshipped as a single unit. Chôyô, the head priest of the Kamo-wake-ikazuchi Shrine, is surmised to have become a priest on the basis of his Buddhist beliefs. This work is known as a good physical manifestation of medieval Japan’s unique amalgamation of simultaneous Buddhist and Shinto worship. In this sense, the work can be said to be extremely important.
